Extended dipyrrin ligands : candidates for optical metal ion detection under competitive conditions

2017

Acylhydrazone based extended dipyrrins L1-H and L2-H are introduced as complexometric ppb sensitive metal ion detectors. The binding of lanthanide, transition as well as post-transition metal ions is followed by UV-Vis measurements. The carbohydrate based ligand L2 is water soluble and thus can act as a metal ion sensor in this medium.

Magnetic Properties of DyTe

1997

The magnetic properties of the lanthanide chalcogenides are much less explored than the monopnictides. The main reasons are probably difficulties in syntheses and the crystals growth. In particular, the properties of monotellurides are almost completely unknown. The dysprosium tellurides: DyTe and Dy2Τe3, crystallize in the structures related to the rock salt type. The first compound is metallic, while the second — semiconducting. Dysprosium sesquitelluride behaves like a simple antiferromagnet with the Neel temperature equal to 4.1 K [1]. We synthesized and investigated the dysprosium monnotelluride in order to examine a change of exchange interactions after transition to the metallic stat…

Mononuclear lanthanide single molecule magnets based on the polyoxometalates [Ln(W5O18)2]9- and [Ln(beta2-SiW11O39)2]13- (Ln(III) = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, T…

2009

The first two families of polyoxometalate-based single-molecule magnets (SMMs) are reported here. Compounds of the general formula [Ln(W(5)O(18))(2)](9-) (Ln(III) = Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er) and [Ln(SiW(11)O(39))(2)](13-) (Ln(III) = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb) have been magnetically characterized with static and dynamic measurements. Slow relaxation of the magnetization, typically associated with SMM-like behavior, was observed for [Ln(W(5)O(18))(2)](9-) (Ln(III) = Ho and Er) and [Ln(SiW(11)O(39))(2)](13-) (Ln(III) = Dy, Ho, Er, and Yb). Among them, only the [Er(W(5)O(18))(2)](9-) derivative exhibited such a behavior above 2 K with an energy barrier for the reversal of the magnetization of 55 K. …

Template electrosynthesis of La(OH)3 and Nd(OH)3 nanowires using porous anodic alumina membranes

2007

High quality arrays of Ln(OH)3 (Ln = La, Nd) nanowires have been successfully fabricated for the first time by an electrochemical process using anodic alumina membrane templates. A physico-chemical characterisation of electrodeposited hydroxides has been carried out by different techniques (XRD, SEM and EDX). The results show that the synthesized nanostructures are crystalline, dense, continuous, well aligned, and with high aspect ratio, suggesting further development of possible applications in the lanthanide family species. tert-Butyl-calix[4]arenes Substituted at the Narrow Rim with Cobalt Bis(dicarbollide)(1–) and CMPO Groups – New and Efficient Extractants for Lanthan…

2007

Calix[4]arene derivatives bearing two residues A(–) derived from cobalt bis(dicarbollide)(1–) (1) and two CMPO groups B at their narrow rim were synthesized from tBu-calix[4]arene in four steps. The first step involved the preparation of tBu-calix[4]arene diether derivatives with appropriate precursors for amino groups (mostly nitriles 3). These were O-alkylated through ring-opening reactions with the zwitterionic dioxane derivative [(8-O(CH2CH2)2O-1,2-C2B9H10)-(1′,2′-C2B9H11)-3,3′-Co]0 (10) to produce ionic nitrile derivatives 4. Reduction of the nitrile groups with BH3·SMe2 (or deprotection in the case of the corresponding phthalimido or Boc derivatives 8) led to a series of diamines 5a–f…

Beta-delayed proton emission observed in new lanthanide isotopes

1984

The following new, beta-delayed proton emitters have been observed at the on-line isotope separator OASIS:120La (2.8±2s),122La (8.7±7s),123Ce (3.8±2s),141Dy (1.0±2s),141Gd, and143Dy (3.2±6s). Z-identification was achieved through observation of characteristic x-rays in coincidence with protons.

Search for superheavy elements in monazites using chemical enrichment

1982

Evidence for the existence of superheavy elements in monazite inclusions embedded in Madagascan mica and surrounded by giant radioactive haloes was given by Gentry et al.1 who observed photons with energies corresponding to predicted Lα1 X-ray energies of element 126 (at 27.25 keV) and also of elements 116, 124 and 127 in irradiations of such crystals with collimated proton beams. For an unambiguous identification, the detection of further members of the L X-ray series would be most important. In X-ray spectra of monazite samples these transitions are buried under the strong K X-ray peaks of the lanthanide elements. They should, however, become visible after chemical enrichment of the super…

White light emitting silsesquioxane based materials: the importance of a ligand with rigid and directional arms

2022

The synthesis of a novel polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane functionalized with eight rigid and directional terpyridine-based arms (Ter-POSS) was successfully achieved via a Sonogashira reaction. The POSS based ligand was extensively characterized using different techniques including 1H, 13C and 29Si NMR as well as UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopies. The assembly of these nano-caged units in the presence of different transition metal ions (Fe2+, Zn2+ and Cu2+) as well as of a cation from the lanthanides (Eu3+) was investigated using absorption and emission spectroscopies. The final materials display an evident emission in different regions of the visible spectrum as a function of the …
