Rare Earth Half-Sandwich Catalysts for the Homo- and Copolymerization of Ethylene and Styrene

2001

The synthesis of rare earth metal half-sandwich hydrido complexes [Ln(η5:η1-C5Me4SiMe2NCMe3)(THF)(μ-H)]2(Ln = Y, Lu, Yb, Er, Tb) through σ-bond metathesis of the alkyl complexes [Ln(η5:η1- C5Me4SiMe2NCMe3)(CH2SiMe3)(THF)], easily accessible by the reaction of the amino-cyclopentadiene with [Ln(CH2SiMe3)3(THF)2], was developed. The dimeric lanthanide hydrido complexes are highly fluxional involving THF dissociation and cis-trans isomerization of the linked amidocyclopentadienyl ligand. The presence of a monomer-dimer equilibrium is suggested by cross-over experiments. They were tested as single-site, single-component catalysts for the polymerization of ethylene, α-olefin, and styrene, as wel…

Reduction and catalytic behaviour of heterobimetallic copper–lanthanide oxides

2008

Abstract The reduction of the heterobimetallic copper–lanthanide oxides 2CuO·CeO2 and 3CuO·Ln2CuO4 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd) was studied by H2-TG/DTA and H2-TPR. All systems exhibit two main reduction steps accompanied by mass losses in the temperature range 20–1000 °C. The first step was attributed to CuO reduction, whereas the second step is due either to copper reduction in the Ln2CuO4 phase with the concomitant formation of Ln2O3 or to the surface reduction of CeO2. The products were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, and BET techniques and are better described as supported copper type materials. They were active for the mesityl oxide (4-methyl-2-penten-2-one) gas phase hydrogenation.

Catalytic activity of solvated and unsolvated lanthanide halides in Friedel–Crafts acylations

2000

Abstract Anhydrous lanthanide halides — chlorides and bromides — can act as homogeneous catalysts of Friedel–Crafts acylations. The catalytic activity is related to the solubility of these anhydrous salts. More soluble THF or dioxane (Diox.) neodymium and samarium adducts are more active catalysts.

Direct detection of 17O NMR in [Gd(DOTA)]- by NMR Spectroscopy

2015

The 17O NMR spectrum of the non-coordinated carboxyl oxygen in the GdIII-DOTA (DOTA = tetraazacyclododecanetetraacetic acid) complex has been observed experimentally. Its line width is essentially unaffected by paramagnetic relaxation due to gadolinium, and is only affected by the quadrupole pathway. The results are supported by the relevant parameters (hyperfine and quadrupole coupling constants) calculated by relativistic DFT methods. This finding opens up new avenues for investigating the structure and reactivity of paramagnetic GdIII complexes used as contrast agents in magnetic resonance imaging.

Triplet-State Position and Crystal-Field Tuning in Opto‐Magnetic Lanthanide Complexes : Two Sides of the Same Coin

2019

Lanthanide complex‐based luminescence thermometry and single‐molecule magnetism are two effervescent research fields, owing to the great promise they hold from an application standpoint. The high thermal sensitivity achievable, their contactless nature, along with sub‐micrometric spatial resolution make these luminescent thermometers appealing for accurate temperature probing in miniaturized electronics. To that end, single‐molecule magnets (SMMs) are expected to revolutionize the field of spintronics, thanks to the improvements made in terms of their working temperature – now surpassing that of liquid nitrogen – and manipulation of their spin state. Hence, the combination of such opto‐magn…

Theoretical and computational studies of magnetic anisotropy and exchange coupling in molecular systems

2018

The field of molecular magnetism studies the magnetic properties of molecular systems as opposed to conventional metal-based magnets. The high chemical modifiability of the constituting molecules makes such materials highly versatile, and the small size of the building blocks leads to the rise of various quantum mechanical phenomena, such as tunneling and entanglement. These phenomena can then be further utilized in the construction of nanoscale quantum devices. This dissertation describes computational and theoretical studies in the field of molecular magnetism using state-of-the-art quantum chemical methods based on ab initio multireference approaches and broken symmetry density functional t…

Fotoutlenianie siarki w obecności wybranych diftalocyjanin lantanowców

2016

Room temperature synthesis of lanthanum phosphates with controlled nanotexture as host for Ln(III) through the Epoxide Route

2022

AbstractHerein, the Epoxide Route, a one-pot room temperature alkalinization method based on the reaction between a nucleophile and an epoxide, has been employed to synthesize LaPO4 in the form of a Rhabdophane phase. The intrinsic features of this synthetic approach allow the reaction to be followed by pH monitoring, making possible the identification of the different precipitation steps involved in the formation of the solid. Once demonstrated the effectiveness of this chemical methodology, the size and shape of the LaPO4 particles were controlled by varying the identity and proportion of the organic co-solvents employed to perform the reaction. By these means, crystalline particles with …

Alkyl-Substituted Aminobis(phosphonates) : Efficient Precipitating Agents for Rare Earth Elements, Thorium, and Uranium in Aqueous Solutions

2021

The efficient and environmentally sustainable separation process for rare earth elements (REE), especially for adjacent lanthanoids, remains a challenge due to the chemical similarity of REEs. Tetravalent actinoids, thorium, and traces of uranium are also present in concentrates of REEs, making their separation relevant. This study reports six simple water-soluble aminobis(phosphonate) ligands, RN[CH2P(O)(OH)2]2 (1 R = CH2CH3, 2 R = (CH2)2CH3, 3 R = (CH2)3CH3, 4 R = (CH2)4CH3, 5 R = (CH2)5CH3, 6 R = CH2CH(C2H5)(CH2)3CH3) as precipitating agents for REEs, Th, and U, as well as gives insight into the coordination modes of the utilized ligands with REEs at the molecular level. Aminobis(phospho…
