Relationship between obesity and plasma aldosterone in essential hypertension: influence of gender
2010
The intermediate role of 18-hydroxycorticosteroids in aldosterone biosynthesis.
1968
1959
Groups of normal rats of both sexes in moderate water diuresis received i.v. injections of 5 ml./kg, of hypertonic (5 times isoosmotic) solutions of sodium chloride, mannitol er sodium sulfate. The renal excretion of water, sodium, chloride and potassium in a 30 minute-period following this injection was measured. It was compared to control values obtained 40 minutes earlier in the same animals after an i.v. injection of isotonic glucose solution. All hypertonic solutions increased diuresis, natriuresis, chloruresis and kaliuresis. While the effects of mannitol and sodium chloride were comparable, sodium sulfate was more natriuretic and less chloruretic. The excretion of potassium after inj…
Die renale Sure- und Ammonium-Ionen-Ausscheidung normaler und adrenalektomierter Ratten und ihre Beeinflussung durch Nebennierenrindenhormone
1959
The renal excretion of acid and ammonium ions after an oral load of monosodium-phosphate (1.2 mEq. per rat) was studied in groups of adrenalectomized er sham-operated rats, maintained on 0.9 per cent NaCI solution and water, on the 6th or 12th day after operation. Untreated groups were compared to groups receiving either Corticotropin (25 U./kg./day s.c.) or Cortisone acetate (12.5 mg./kg./day s.c.) er (7.5 mg./kg./day s.c.) or D,L-Aldosterone acetate Cortexone acetate (0.15 mg./kg./day s.c.) from the 3rd to the 12th day after opetarion. In sham-operated rats Cortisone increased H+ excretion and diuresis on the 6th day after operation (3rd day of treatment). This influence did not persist o…
Aufnahme und renale Ausscheidung von Wasser und Salzen bei freiem Nahrungs- und Trinkflssigkeitsangebot; ihre Beeinflussung durch Adrenalektomie und…
1959
Water, sodium, potassium and chloride balances, food uptake and changes in body weight were determined in large groups of adrenalectomized or sham-operated rats having permanent access to water, 0.9 per cent saline and rat crackers. Measurements were done on the 5th to 8th day, or else on the 11th to 14th day after operation. From the 3rd day after operation the animals either received s.c. injections of 2.0 ml./kg. 0.9 per cent NaCl per day (controls) or of one of the following hormones: Corticotropin (25 U/kg. b.w./day), Cortisone acetate (12.5mg./kg./day), Cortexone acetate (7.5mg./kg./day) or D,L-Aldosterone acetate (0.15 mg./kg./day). Besides electrolyte balances, plasma concentrations…
Modifications induced in the renin-angiotensin-aldo-sterone system of rats by alpha-blocking drugs.
1978
Summary The data reported in the present paper refer to quantitative variations of plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone levels after administration of alpha-blocking agents, i.e. phentolamine, phenoxybenzamine and gihydroergotoxin derivatives, either to rats kept on a standard diet with water ad libitum or to rats receiving distilled water load, the latter treatment causing an increase of both plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone levels if compared to control values. No strict correlation between (a) drug-induced modifications of plasma renin activity and plasma aldosterone levels and (b) blood pressure drop caused by the same drugs was shown to occur under either experiment…
Variations of plas14a benin activity and aldostehone levels in the rat after administration of saline, chrystalloid and colloid solutions
1976
Abstract The data reported in the present paper refer to quantitative variations of plasma renin activity (PRA.) and of plasma aldosterone levels in rats after adiministration of saline, chrystalloid and colloid solutions. In our experimental conditions PRA and plasma aldosterone levels were shown to increase significantly after administration of distilled water and glucose solution. Variations of PRA and plasma aldosterone levels were only slight when plasma volume was made to increase due to administration of polyvinylpirrolidone solution. PRA, instead, was significantly lower in rats having received saline salution.
Biotin-Labelled and Photoactivatable Aldosterone and Progesterone Derivatives as Ligands for Affinity Chromatography, Fluorescence Immunoassays and P…
1996
New derivatives of progesterone and aldosterone were synthesized and functionally tested with commercially available antibodies. The covalent labelling of antibodies specific for aldosterone and progesterone was detected by SDS/PAGE analysis and subsequent autoradiography after using 3-(O-carboxymethyl)-oximino-(3-[125I]iodo-4-azidosalicylamidobu tylamine) derivatives of aldosterone and progesterone, respectively, as photoactivatable radioligands. Labelling was not observed in the presence of an excess of the unlabelled steroid. Aldosterone was labelled with biotin and used as a tracer in a time-resolved fluorescence immunoassay. The nonradioactive tracer is highly selective for its antibod…
RELATIONSHIPS OF SERUM URIC ACID WITH PLASMA RENIN ACTIVITY AND PLASMA ALDOSTERONE IN UNTREATED HYPERTENSIVE SUBJECTS
2013
In experimental studies conducted in rats, raising serum uric acid (SUA) levels resulted in stimulation of intrarenal renin expression. Studies in humans exploring the association of SUA with plasma renin activity (PRA) yielded conflicting results. Moreover, little is known about the relationship between plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and SUA. The aim of our study was to analyse the relationships between SUA, PRA and PAC and the influence of age and gender on these relationships in a group of subjects with primary hypertension. We enrolled 281 patients (men 59%), with untreated primary hypertension and normal renal function. The study population wad divided in two subgroups on the b…
