Students’ agency profiles in relation to student-perceived teaching practices in university courses

This study addresses the gap in our understanding of the role of pedagogy in agency construction among higher education students. In the present study, profiles of students’ agency experiences were identified and analysed with respect to the students’ perceptions of teaching practices in their courses (i.e., student-centred learning activities, forms of instruction, and student-teacher roles). In this study, static visual displays of titration created by the university-level pre-service chemistry education students was investigated. The aim for the students was to learn the theory of titrations, using self-prepared cartoon strips with supportive texts. Attention was paid to the titration cartoon strips students made which were suitable for both learning and teaching purposes. Tongue twisters are a controversial pronunciation teaching classic. Whereas some see tongue twisters difficult and frustrating for learners, others find them fun and motivating. This study was inspired by these opposing views and the fact that previous studies have failed to offer convincing proof of whether this technique works for L2 pronunciation learning.
