Alpu kreimules herbāriji Latvijas Universitātes Muzejā

Alpu kreimule Pinguicula alpina L. ir rets augs, kurš šobrīd vairs nav sastopams Latvijas flora. Tā vienīgā dabīgā augtene bija uz Staburaga Daugavas krastā. Pļaviņu HES būvniecibas rezultātā tā tika iznīcināta. Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja herbārijā Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās glabājas šā auga herbāriji gan no Latvijas, gan Igaunijas. Šeit atrodas gan senākais ievāktais herbārijs uz Staburaga, gan pēdējais, kas tika šeit ievākts 1961. gadā.

Chronic alcohol exposure reduces endocannabinoid activity and disrupts adult neurogenesis in rodents, which results in structural and functional alterations. Cannabinoid receptor agonists promote adult neural progenitor cell (NPC) proliferation. Gambling Disorder is a prevalent non-substance use disorder, which contrasts with the low number of people requesting treatment. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) could help to enhance the dissemination of evidence-based treatments and considerably reduce the costs. The current study seeks to assess the efficacy of an online psychological intervention for people suffering from gambling problems in Spain. Polyoxypregnanes as safe, potent, and specific ABCB1-inhibitory pro-drugs to overcome multidrug resistance in cancer chemotherapy in vitro and in vivo

Multidrug resistance (MDR) mediated by ATP binding cassette subfamily B member 1 (ABCB1) is significantly hindering effective cancer chemotherapy. However, currently, no ABCB1-inhibitory drugs have been approved to treat MDR cancer clinically, mainly due to the inhibitor specificity, toxicity, and drug interactions. Here, we reported that three polyoxypregnanes (POPs) as the most abundant constituents of Marsdenia tenacissima (M. tenacissima) were novel ABCB1-modulatory pro-drugs, which underwent intestinal microbiota-mediated biotransformation in vivo to generate active metabolites. In the non-amyloidogenic pathway the alpha-secretase cleaves the amyloid precursor protein (APP) within the sequence of Abeta-peptides and precludes their formation. In addition, alpha-secretase cleavage releases an N-terminal extracellular domain with neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties. The disintegrin metalloproteinase ADAM10 has been shown to act as alpha-secretase in vivo, to prevent amyloid plaque formation and hippocampal defects in an Alzheimer disease mouse model.
