This article analyses such inclusion at the university level choosing students with deafness as a representative and extrapolative sample. After specifying the main limitations and needs for this group of students, the study revises the solutions put forward by the current legislation and it details in depth, by way of a comparative study, the services provided now by the newly created University Services for the Integration of students with special educational needs. La prueba de acceso a la Universidad como reguladora del proceso de enseñanza/aprendizaje de Historia
2017
In Spain, the students of second year of Bachillerato are in a moment complicated by the pressures that the University Access Test (PAU) and the cut note to access to the specialty of their liking. This situation leads to the teachers of this educational stage to consider the need to adapt to the parameters of the said access examination, with the intention that the results of the same improve and the students can access the desired specialty. The Role of Synthetic A Priori Propositions in the Development of Kant’s Account of Practical Autonomy: A Critique of Watkins’ Reading of Kant’s Prol…
2021
AbstractI draw attention to a 12-page Vorarbeit to Kant’s Prolegomena from the so-called Scheffner-Nachlaß and argue that the parallel Kant draws there between the possibility of theoretical and practical synthetic a priori propositions provides important insight into the development of his account of practical autonomy in the Groundwork. Based on a brief sketch of the role synthetic a priori propositions play in the development of Kant’s critical philosophy, I conclude that for Kant the objective validity of any science depends on the objective validity of a number of synthetic a priori propositions.
Managing palaeontological heritage: a brief overview of policy and practice in England
2019
Fossil collecting for scientific and educational reasons, as well as to support natural curiosity, has taken place in England since at least the late eighteenth century. It was not, however, until the late nineteenth, and particularly the mid-twentieth century, that site-based conservation of palaeontological heritage, and the management of collecting, was established. This paper provides a brief overview of the development of the policy and practice of palaeontological heritage management in England. It includes an outline of the establishment of national legislation, and a summary of the practical approaches to managing palaeontological sites and the collection of fossils that have been a…
Is it possible to compose and educate interculturally? Experiences from the Spanish educational system
2019
John Bates Clark on trusts: New light from the Columbia archives
2005
Public concern over the so called “trust problem” in the United States between the end of the nineteenth century and 1914, the year of the passage of the Clayton and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Acts, was reflected in the considerable contemporary literature on the subject. Not surprisingly, professional economists actively participated in this debate. Their thinking directly and indirectly influenced the legislation of 1914 in a way that cannot be said of the Sherman Act of 1890 (Mayhew 1998). A survey of the most important of these professional writings shows that, among the several voices animating the discussion, John Bates Clark's was perhaps the most influential. In this connection,…
OS ECJ-TF 4/2017 on the Decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union of 9 February 2017 in X (Case C-283/15) ('Pro-Rata Personal Deductions…
2018
This article deals with the decision taken by the Court of Justice of the European Union in X (Case C-283/15), on 9 February 2017. In general terms, the Court followed the Opinion of Advocate General Wathelet of 7 September 2016. The case concerned tax legislation permitting the deduction of "negative income" relating to a dwelling. The issue was whether the fundamental freedoms must be interpreted as precluding a Member State from refusing the benefit of that deduction in respect of a self-employed non-resident in circumstances in which that person receives 60% of his total income within that Member State, and 40% within a non-Member State. Therefore, he does not receive income that enable…
The Spanish Parliament and Brexit
2019
In the Spanish Parliament, European affairs are dealt with in a joint committee made up of representatives of the Congress and the Senate. This committee is in charge of controlling the Government in matters related to the European Union; it is also the body in charge of controlling the Union’s compliance with the principle of subsidiarity. Until very recently, the Spanish Parliament’s control was not very demanding due mainly to three factors: first, because the current legislation obliges the Government only to inform the Cortes about its activities within the European Council and the Council, but does not allow the Cortes to give the Government a compulsory negotiating mandate; second, b…
Most-Favoured-Nation Treatment, Survival Clauses and Reform of International Investment Law
2016
In the last decade, international investment law has been on a trajectory of rapid evolution with reform high on agenda priorities. Reform requires a reconciliation of competing interests, which is generally so difficult to achieve that it is often unclear whether an option constitutes ‘reform’ or unwanted change. Two specific treaty provisions, the most-favoured-nation (MFN) treatment and survival clauses, can interfere with the reform process and become an impediment to changing the rules of the game. This is particularly true when political will is present. The MFN treatment, a guarantee of non-discrimination present in the quasi-totality of investment treaties, can have far-reaching ram…
