Laparoscopic near-total splenectomy. Report of a case
2020
Highlights • We describe a case report of near total splenectomy managed by laparoscopy for a large lesion of the upper pole of the spleen. • When total splenectomy is performed, an increased risk of potentially lethal infections arises. Asplenia and impaired splenic function are related to the increase of morbidity and mortality from infectious complications. • The overwhelming post splenectomy infections (OPSI) are mostly represented by fulminating sepsis, meningitis or pneumonia. • laparoscopic near total splenectomy is an innovative partial splenectomy technique consisting on preserving a residual spleen volume. • The comparison between other spleen preserving techniques shows that LNTS…
Characterization of thin film CIG(S,SE)2 submodules using solar simulator and laser beam induced current techniques (Versione estesa)
2015
In this work, the electrical and optical characterization of CIG(S, Se)2 sub-modules using both a solar simulator equipment and the Laser Beam Induced Current (LBIC) technique is presented. By using the solar simulator and a proper set-up, the electrical parameters of the modules at varying irradiance and temperatures are determined. In addition, the LBIC measurements are carried out to analyze the 2D photocurrent uniformity of the modules at two different wavelengths. Dispersion values of extracted parameters can be very useful for practically tuning the modelling stage at device/module level.
Taken from the sea, reclaimed by the sea: The fate of the closed harbour of Elaia, the maritime satellite city of Pergamum (Turkey)
2013
Abstract During Hellenistic times, when the Pergamenian kingdom was prospering, Pergamum was operating an important harbour, used by merchants and military at the city of Elaia. This paper focuses on the development, utilisation and decay of the closed harbour of Elaia, which is discussed in the context of the landscape evolution of the environs of the ancient settlement. Based on geoarchaeological, archaeological and literary evidence, the construction of two harbour moles in order to provide shelter against wave action and enemies can be attributed to the early Hellenistic period. Geoelectric measurements revealed the construction profile of the moles. Coring evidence indicated that toget…

Ķermeņa estētika Lenijas Rifenštāles filmā “Zilā gaisma
2017

Bio serves nano: biological light-harvesting complex as energy donor for semiconductor quantum dots.
2012
Light-harvesting complex (LHCII) of the photosynthetic apparatus in plants is attached to type-II core-shell CdTe/CdSe/ZnS nanocrystals (quantum dots, QD) exhibiting an absorption band at 710 nm and carrying a dihydrolipoic acid coating for water solubility. LHCII stays functional upon binding to the QD surface and enhances the light utilization of the QDs significantly, similar to its light-harvesting function in photosynthesis. Electronic excitation energy transfer of about 50% efficiency is shown by donor (LHCII) fluorescence quenching as well as sensitized acceptor (QD) emission and corroborated by time-resolved fluorescence measurements. The energy transfer efficiency is commensurable …
