Nuclear matrix elements for 0νββ decays with light or heavy Majorana-neutrino exchange
2015
We compute the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) corresponding to the neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decays of nuclei which attract current experimental interest. We concentrate on ground-state-to-ground-state decay transitions mediated by light (l-NMEs) or heavy (h-NMEs) Majorana neutrinos. The computations are done in realistic single-particle model spaces using the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) with two-nucleon interactions based on the Bonn one-boson-exchange G matrix. Both the l-NMEs and the h-NMEs include the appropriate short-range correlations, nucleon form factors, and higher-order nucleonic weak currents. In addition, both types of NMEs are correct…
Neutrinoless ββ nuclear matrix elements using isovector spin-dipole Jπ = 2− data
2018
Ground-state-to-ground-state neutrinoless double-beta (0νββ) decays in nuclei of current experimental interest are revisited. In order to improve the reliability of the nuclear matrix element (NME) calculations for the light Majorana-neutrino mode, the NMEs are calculated by exploiting the newly available data on isovector spin-dipole (IVSD) Jπ=2− giant resonances. In order to correctly describe the IVSD up to and beyond the giant-resonance region, the present computations are performed in extended no-core single-particle model spaces using the spherical version of the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) with two-nucleon interactions based on the Bonn one-boson-…
Constraints on the extremely-high energy cosmic neutrino flux with the IceCube 2008-2009 data
2011
We report on a search for extremely-high energy neutrinos with energies greater than $10^6$ GeV using the data taken with the IceCube detector at the South Pole. The data was collected between April 2008 and May 2009 with the half completed IceCube array. The absence of signal candidate events in the sample of 333.5 days of livetime significantly improves model independent limit from previous searches and allows to place a limit on the diffuse flux of cosmic neutrinos with an $E^{-2}$ spectrum in the energy range $2.0 \times 10^{6}$ $-$ $6.3 \times 10^{9}$ GeV to a level of $E^2 \phi \leq 3.6 \times 10^{-8}$ ${\rm GeV cm^{-2} sec^{-1}sr^{-1}}$.
Change in structure between the $I = 1/2$ states in $^{181}$Tl and $^{177,179}$Au
2018
Abstract The first accurate measurements of the α-decay branching ratio and half-life of the I π = 1 / 2 + ground state in 181Tl have been made, along with the first determination of the magnetic moments and I = 1 / 2 spin assignments of the ground states in 177,179Au. The results are discussed within the complementary systematics of the reduced α-decay widths and nuclear g factors of low-lying, I π = 1 / 2 + states in the neutron-deficient lead region. The findings shed light on the unexpected hindrance of the 1 / 2 + → 1 / 2 + , 181Tl → g 177 Aug α decay, which is explained by a mixing of π 3 s 1 / 2 and π 2 d 3 / 2 configurations in 177Aug, whilst 181Tlg remains a near-pure π 3 s 1 / 2 .…
Combining data from high-energy p p -reactions and neutrinoless double-beta decay: Limits on the mass of the right-handed boson
2016
From the recently established lower-limits on the nonobservability of the neutrinoless double-beta decay of 76Ge (GERDA collaboration) and 136Xe (EXO-200 and KamLAND-Zen collaborations), combined with the ATLAS and CMS data, we extract limits for the left-right (LR) mixing angle, of the SU(2)L ×SU(2)R electroweak Hamiltonian. For the theoretical analysis, which is a model dependent, we have adopted a minimal extension of the Standard Model (SM) of Electroweak Interactions belonging to the SU(2)L ×SU(2)R representation. The nuclear-structure input of the analysis consists of a set of matrix elements and phase-space factors, and the experimental lower-limits for the half-lives. The other inpu…

Analysis of the Intermediate-State Contributions to Neutrinoless Double β− Decays
2016
A comprehensive analysis of the structure of the nuclear matrix elements (NMEs) of neutrinoless double beta-minus (0νβ-β-) decays to the0+ground and first excited states is performed in terms of the contributing multipole states in the intermediate nuclei of0νβ-β-transitions. We concentrate on the transitions mediated by the light (l-NMEs) Majorana neutrinos. As nuclear model we use the proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation (pnQRPA) with a realistic two-nucleon interaction based on the Bonn one-boson-exchangeGmatrix. In the computations we include the appropriate short-range correlations, nucleon form factors, and higher-order nucleonic weak currents and restore the isospi…
A measurement of the \(\tau\) leptonic branching fractions
1995
Abstract: A sample of 25000 Z(0) --> tau(-)tau(+) events collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP in 1991 and 1992 is used to measure the leptonic branching fractions of the tau lepton. The results are B(tau --> e nu) = (17.51+/-0.39)% and B(tau --> mu nu) = (17.02+/-0.31)%. The ratio of the muon and electron couplings to the weak charged current is measured to be g(mu)/g(e) = 1.000+/-0.013, satisfying e-mu universality. The average leptonic branching fraction corrected to the value for a massless lepton, assuming e-mu universality, is found to be B(tau --> l nu) = (17.50+/-0.25)%.
Search for Heavy, Long-Lived Neutralinos that Decay to Photons at CDF II Using Photon Timing
2008
We present the results of the first hadron collider search for heavy, long-lived neutralinos that decay via lightest neutralino to gamma gravitino in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. Using an integrated luminosity of $570\pm34 pb^{-1}$ of $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV, we select $\gamma$+jet+missing transverse energy candidate events based on the arrival time of a high-energy photon at the electromagnetic calorimeter as measured with a timing system that was recently installed on the CDF II detector. We find 2 events, consistent with the background estimate of 1.3$\pm$0.7 events. While our search strategy does not rely on model-specific dynamics, we set cross sec…
Neutrino phenomenology and stable dark matter with A4
2011
We present a model based on the A4 non-abelian discrete symmetry leading to a predictive five-parameter neutrino mass matrix and providing a stable dark matter candidate. We found an interesting correlation among the atmospheric and the reactor angles which predicts theta_23 ~ pi/4 for very small reactor angle and deviation from maximal atmospheric mixing for large theta_13. Only normal neutrino mass spectrum is possible and the effective mass entering the neutrinoless double beta decay rate is constrained to be |m_ee| > 4 10^{-4} eV.
