Hyperchargeless triplet Majoron model.
1989
We study the general conditions to maintain the scale of the lepton-number-breaking vacuum expectation value at the electroweak scale. It is shown that the only possibilities are if the main component of the resulting Majoron is a hyperchargeless complex triplet or a neutral singlet. Models with a hyperchargeless triplet, even though phenomenologically more interesting, seem to be very difficult to build because they like to break charge conservation. However, we have found a particular extension, by adding an additional neutral singlet, that solves this problem. The model can give a Majorana mass to the neutrinos in the eV range, ..mu -->..e..gamma.. can proceed with branching ratios at th…
The Boson Fermion Correspondence
1989
In 1932 Louis de Broglie suggested that photons could be constructed from pairs of neutrinos [de Broglie, 1932]. Both are massless particles (except for some recent unconfirmed experiments according to which the neutrino could have a very small mass) and are electrically neutral. The main difference between free photons and free neutrinos is that the former obeys Bose statistics and the second Fermi statistics. The spin of a photon is 1 and the spin of a neutrino is 1/2 and therefore kinematically it should be possible to think of a photon as a neutrino pair. However, this old formulation of boson fermion equivalence has not been very fruitful in particle physics. Instead, there has been a …
Singletons on AdSn
2000
We define the singletons for the invariance group \( {\overline S _n} = {\overline {SO} _0}\left( {2,n - 1} \right) \)) of the AdS n space-time. We write down some of their important properties and characterizations. It is found that the tensor product of singletons of spin 0 or 1/2 decomposes into representations that are a kind of massless representations of S n . Other kinds of massless representations, related to singletons, are also studied and a comparison is made. Various Gupta-Bleuler triplets are constructed for singletons and for massless representations.
The next-to-ladder approximation for linear Dyson–Schwinger equations
2007
We solve the linear Dyson Schwinger equation for a massless vertex in Yukawa theory, iterating the first two primitive graphs.
Social Network-Based Content Delivery in Device-to-Device Underlay Cellular Networks Using Matching Theory
2017
With the popularity of social network-based services, the unprecedented growth of mobile date traffic has brought a heavy burden on the traditional cellular networks. Device-to-device (D2D) communication, as a promising solution to overcome wireless spectrum crisis, can enable fast content delivery based on user activities in social networks. In this paper, we address the content delivery problem related to optimization of peer discovery and resource allocation by combining both the social and physical layer information in D2D underlay networks. The social relationship, which is modeled as the probability of selecting similar contents and estimated by using the Bayesian nonparametric models…
Increasing the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams using pretensioned stainless steel ribbons
2017
In this work, the second part of an experimental campaign investigating the efficiency of an alternative retrofitting method for increasing the flexural and/or shear capacity in reinforced concrete beams, based on the use of prestressed stainless steel ribbons and steel angles, is presented and analytically reproduced. This group of tests focuses on the ability of the adopted retrofitting method to improve the shear strength and ultimate deformation of reinforced concrete structural elements. As described in a companion paper, the adopted retrofitting method is alternative to traditional techniques of reinforced concrete retrofitting, being easy to install and usually reversible, and charac…
One-step electrodeposition of superhydrophobic coating on 316L stainless steel
2021
Superhydrophobic coatings were fabricated through a one-step electrochemical process onto the surface of 316L stainless steel samples. The presence of hierarchical structures at micro/nanoscale and manganese stearate into the coatings gave superhydrophobicity to the coating, with contact angle of ~160°, and self-cleaning ability. Corrosion resistance of 316L samples was also assessed also after the electrodeposition process through Electrochemical Impedance Spectra recorded in an aqueous solution mimicking seawater condition.
Intregrating metallic wiring with three-dimensional polystyrene colloidal crystals using electron-beam lithography and three-dimensional laser lithog…
2017
We demonstrate a method to fabricate narrow, down to a few micron wide metallic leads on top of a three-dimensional colloidal crystal self-assembled from polystyrene (PS) nanospheres of diameter 260 nm, using electron-beam lithography. This fabrication is not straightforward due to the fact that PS nanospheres cannot usually survive the harsh chemical treatments required in the development and lift-off steps of electron-beam lithography. We solve this problem by increasing the chemical resistance of the PS nanospheres using an additional electron-beam irradiation step, which allows the spheres to retain their shape and their self-assembled structure, even after baking to a temperature of 16…
The use of non-cavitating coupling fluids for intensifying sonoelectrochemical processes
2020
Abstract For the first time, we have investigated the beneficial effects of non-cavitating coupling fluids and their moderate overpressures in enhancing mass-transfer and acoustic energy transfer in a double cell micro-sonoreactor. Silicon and engine oils of different viscosities were used as non-cavitating coupling fluids. A formulated monoethylene glycol (FMG), which is a regular cooling fluid, was also used as reference. It was found that silicon oil yielded a maximum acoustic energy transfer (3.05 W/cm2) from the double jacketed cell to the inner cell volume, at 1 bar of coupling fluid overpressure which was 2.5 times higher than the regular FMG cooling fluid. It was also found that the…
Shape memory NiTi thin films deposited at low temperature
1999
Abstract NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) thin films have the potential to become high performance actuators for micro-electromechanical systems. Low temperature crystallized NiTi films would ensure a good compatibility with microelectronic processes and polymers. To avoid the drawbacks induced by annealing, we have tried to obtain low temperature crystallized RF sputtered NiTi films by optimising deposition parameters. We have found that NiTi films containing an excess of Ti (∼52%) were crystallized when deposited on Si(100) substrates heated up to only 473 K. NiTi/Si(n) Schottky diodes I–V characteristics showed a temperature dependence indicating structural transition in the NiTi electrode.…
