Level structure of120Sn from the decay of120In and120Sb isomers

1971

Gamma rays in the decay of the 3.2 s (1+) and 44 s (4, 5+)120In isomers and the 15.9 min (1+) and 5.8 d (8−)120Sb isomers have been investigated using Ge(Li) spectrometers and prompt and delayed Ge(Li)-NaI(Tl) coincidence techniques. The constructed level scheme of120Sn contains 18 levels at the following energies (keV): 0 (0+), 1171.6 (2+), 1875.6 (0+), 2096.9 (1, 2, 3), 2160.7 (0+), 2195.0 (4+), 2284.8 (5−), 2355.6 (2+), 2421.2 (1, 2, 3), 2466.3 (4+), 2482.1 (7−), 2643.5 (4+), 3058.6 (4+), 3179.7 (4+), 3349.9 (3, 4+), 3440 (3, 4+), 3447.6 (5, 6+) and 3777 (4+). The levels are compared with the levels obtained from recent charged-particle reaction studies and the structure of120Sn is brief…

Beamline pulsing system for cyclotrons

1998

Abstract A beamline pulsing system for cyclotrons is presented. The function of this system is to modify the structure of a cyclotron ion beam guided to the desired research target by a beamline. In some in-beam experiments, an adjustment of the time structure of the beam is sometimes needed. This kind of situation occurs if, for example, the life time of the target material is longer than the period corresponding to the beam frequency. In this case, the frequency of the ion pulses hitting the target is 10–21 MHz depending on the frequency of the acceleration voltage. The adjustment of the ion beam pulse frequency is carried out by a beamline deflector. Deflection is achieved by feeding a h…

Intruder features in the island of inversion: The case of33Mg

2001

The Na-33 beta decay was studied online using mass separation techniques and a first description of the level structure of the neutron-rich isotope Mg-33, with N=21, has been obtained. The experiment involved the measurement of beta-gamma, beta-gamma-gamma, and beta -n-gamma coincidences as well as neutron spectra by time-of-flight technique. The first low energy level scheme for the daughter nucleus Mg-33 is given with five bound states. Spin and parity assignments are proposed according to beta feedings and gamma -ray multipolarities, beta -strength distribution is evaluated, taking into account 1n- and 2n-emission channels and it is compared with the calculated GT strength distribution. …

An extended Lipkin-type model with residual proton-neutron interaction

1997

Abstract The Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick (LMG) model is extended to explicitly take into account the proton and neutron degrees of freedom. The proton and neutron Hamiltonians are taken to be of the LMG form, and, in addition, a residual proton-neutron interaction is include. Exact solutions in an SU (2) ⊗ SU (2) basis as well as the RPA solutions for the energy spectrum of the model Hamiltonian are obtained. The spectrum of the exact solutions is degenerate in the limit of no proton-neutron residual interaction, but this degeneracy is totally removed when this type of residual interaction is turned on. The spectrum obtained with RPA is compressed or expanded, as compared to the LMG model with the…

Neutrinoless double beta decay in light of SNO salt data

2003

In the SNO data from its salt run, probably the most significant result is the consistency with the previous results without assuming the 8B energy spectrum. In addition, they have excluded the maximal mixing at a very high confidence level. This has an important implication on the double beta decay experiments. For the inverted or degenerate mass spectrum, we find |_{ee}| > 0.013 eV at 95% CL, and the next generation experiments can discriminate Majorana and Dirac neutrinos if the inverted or degenerate mass spectrum will be confirmed by the improvements in cosmology, tritium data beta decay, or long-baseline oscillation experiments.

Molecular Ω states

2018

Motivated by the recent finding of five Ωc states by the LHCb collaboration, and the successful reproduction of three of them in a recent approach searching for molecular states of meson–baryon with the quantum numbers of Ωc, we extend these ideas and make predictions for the interaction of meson–baryon in the beauty sector, searching for poles in the scattering matrix that correspond to physical states. We find several Ωb states: two states with masses 6405 MeV and 6465 MeV for JP=12−; two more states with masses 6427 MeV and 6665 MeV for 32−; and three states between 6500 and 6820 MeV, degenerate with JP=12−,32−, stemming from the interaction of vector–baryon in the beauty sector.

Neutrino conversions in a polarized medium

1997

Electron polarization induced by magnetic fields can modify the potentials relevant for describing neutrino conversions in media with magnetic fields. The magnitudes of polarization potentials are determined for different conditions. We show that variations of the electron polarization along the neutrino trajectory can induce resonant conversions in the active-sterile neutrino system, but cannot lead to level crossing in the active-active neutrino system. For neutrino flavour conversions the polarisation leads only to a shift of the standard MSW resonance. For polarizations $\lambda \lsim 0.04$ the direct modifications of the potential (density) due to the magnetic field pressure are smalle…

SO(10) grand unification model for degenerate neutrino masses

1994

This version corrects the first one in eq.3.4 and table 1 where there was a bar missing in the 126 representation. All other equations and results are unchanged and correct. However, the criticism we had made in the earlier version to the work of Caldwell and Mohapatra was not correct and has been removed from the "note added" where it appeared. Moreover one new reference has been added to ref.13.

Direct neutralino searches in the NMSSM with gravitino LSP in the degenerate scenario

2011

In the present work a two-component dark matter model is studied adopting the degenerate scenario in the R-parity conserving NMSSM. The gravitino LSP and the neutralino NLSP are extremely degenerate in mass, avoiding the BBN bounds and obtaining a high reheating temperature for thermal leptogenesis. In this model both gravitino (absolutely stable) and neutralino (quasi-stable) contribute to dark matter, and direct detection searches for neutralino are discussed. Points that survive all the constraints correspond to a singlino-like neutralino.

Atmospheric neutrino anomaly without maximal mixing?

2000

We consider a pattern of neutrino masses in which there is an approximate mass degeneracy between the two mass eigenstates most coupled to the $\nu_\mu$ and $\nu_\tau$ flavour eigenstates. Earth-matter effects can lift this degeneracy and induce an effectively maximal mixing between these two generations. This occurs if $\nu_e$'s contain comparable admixtures of the degenerate eigenstates, even rather small ones. This provides an explanation of the atmospheric neutrino anomaly in which the {\it ab initio} introduction of a large mixing angle is not required. To test this possibility we perform a novel and detailed analysis of the 52 kiloton-year SuperKamiokande data, and we find that in a l…
