On the algebraic types of the Bel–Robinson tensor

The Bel-Robinson tensor is analyzed as a linear map on the space of the traceless symmetric tensors. This study leads to an algebraic classification that refines the usual Petrov-Bel classification of the Weyl tensor. The new classes correspond to degenerate type I space-times which have already been introduced in literature from another point of view. The Petrov-Bel types and the additional ones are intrinsically characterized in terms of the sole Bel-Robinson tensor, and an algorithm is proposed that enables the different classes to be distinguished. Results are presented that solve the problem of obtaining the Weyl tensor from the Bel-Robinson tensor in regular cases.

Sensory and chemical drivers of wine minerality aroma: An application to Chablis wines

The goal of this work was to evaluate the effect of vineyard position on the minerality of wines and to establish relationships between minerality scores, sensory descriptors and chemical composition. Sensory analyses included minerality rating and free description performed by wine professionals under two conditions: orthonasal olfaction alone and global tasting. Chemical characterization included analysis of major and minor volatile compounds, volatile sulphur compounds, mercaptans, metals, anions and cations. Chryseobacterium potabilaquae sp. nov., Chryseobacterium aquaeductus sp. nov. and Chryseobacterium fistulae sp. nov., from drinking water systems

A polyphasic taxonomic study was conducted on three strains isolated from drinking water systems that had previously been deposited as Chryseobacterium species at the Spanish Type Culture Collection in order to complete their classification. Strains CECT 9293T, CECT 9390T and CECT 9393T were isolated from sites in Barcelona, Spain, in the framework of a project aimed at generating the first MALDI-TOF database specific for bacteria present in water for human consumption. Their partial 16S rRNA sequences showed that their closest relatives among the type strains of Chryseobacterium exhibited 98 % similarity or less, supporting their taxonomic novelty. Road traffic detection using wireless noise sensors

In this paper we present our experimental result of using wireless noise sensor network (WNSN) to detect road traffic. With the features implemented in our network such as multipoint measuring, synchronization, real-time data availability, and strict compliance of sound level meter (SLM) standard IEC 61672:2003, we assert the possibility of using WNSN to detect road traffic, such as vehicle amount, size, and velocity. This application can be extended and integrated as a part of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).

The Chardonnay wine olfactory concept revisited: A stable core of volatile compounds, and fuzzy boundaries

Abstract An earlier study by the same team showed that Chardonnay wines have common olfactory properties by which wine experts can recognize them. The specific Chardonnay olfactory space was also tentatively linked to the relative concentrations of 29 volatile compounds, regarded as possible aroma-impact compounds. Effect of leaf removal and ripening stage on the content of quercetin glycosides in Sangiovese grapes

Quercetin haze has been observed over the last few years in some aged Sangiovese wines. This problem could be due to an excess of the quercetin in the wine. Leaf removal increases the exposition of clusters to sunlight, which may enhance flavonol synthesis in the grapes. Data from: First records of complete annual cycles in water rails Rallus aquaticus show evidence of itinerant breeding and a complex migration system

In water rails Rallus aquaticus, northern and eastern populations are migratory while southern and western populations are sedentary. Few details are known about the annual cycle of this elusive species. We studied movements and breeding in water rails from southernmost Norway where the species occurs year-round. Colour-ringed wintering birds occurred only occasionally at the study site in summer, and vice versa. Geolocator tracks revealed that wintering birds (n = 10) migrated eastwards in spring to breed on both sides of the Baltic Sea, whereas a single breeding bird from the study site wintered in north Italy. WINSE: WiMAX NS-2 extension

IEEE 802.16 standard defines the wireless broadband technology called WiMAX. When compared to other wireless technologies, it introduces many interesting advantages at PHY, MAC, and QoS layers. Heavy simulations are needed to study IEEE 802.16 performance and propose further enhancements to this standard. Link level simulations are not always sufficient, while system level simulators are not always accurate to capture MAC and transport protocol details.
