Effects of BIS076 in a model of osteoarthritis induced by anterior cruciate ligament transection in ovariectomised rats
2015
Background Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most frequent articular disease and a leading cause of disability. There is a need for effective treatments able to slow the progression of disease. Some of the available treatments are dietary supplements providing natural components. Recent studies have shown that estrogen deficiency contributes to the pathophysiological events of OA progression. Methods We have used the anterior cruciate ligament transection model of OA in ovariectomised rats to study the effects of BIS076, a new formulation of a natural porcine cartilage extract associated with hydroxyapatite (as a source of calcium) and vitamin D3. Cartilage degradation, proteoglycan depletion and …
Localization of the bradykinin B2 receptor in uterus, bladder and Madin-Darby canine kidney cells
1997
Kinins are biologically active peptides that act through specific receptors, B1 and B2. Here we describe the localization of the bradykinin B2 receptor in Madin-Darby canine kidney cells and in the uterus and urinary bladder of rat or human origin. We discuss the suitability of anti-peptide antibodies to assess the tissue distribution of bradykinin B2 receptors.
Vacuum inversion and securing of distal colonic pseudodiverticula with novel spiked O-rings
2015
Background Diverticular disease is increasingly prevalent in Western societies and is associated with significant morbidity. Objective Two-stage endoscopic device development for inversion and secured ligation of colonic diverticula; first, human cadaver studies were performed to measure forces required for diverticular inversion; second, a novel set of devices (elastic spiked O-ring with delivery system) was tested in animals. Design Prospective, observational study of human cadavers and prospective, interventional study of a porcine model. Setting University hospital pathology laboratory and animal facility. Intervention Full-thickness inversion of the colonic wall with a pipelike deliver…
Characterisation of [11C]PR04.MZ in Papio anubis baboon: A selective high-affinity radioligand for quantitative imaging of the dopamine transporter
2012
N-(4-fluorobut-2-yn-1-yl)-2β-carbomethoxy-3β-(4′-tolyl)nortropane (PR04.MZ, 1) is a PET radioligand for the non-invasive exploration of the function of the cerebral dopamine transporter (DAT). A reliable automated process for routine production of the carbon-11 labelled analogue [11C]PR04.MZ ([11C]-1) has been developed using GMP compliant equipment. An adult female Papio anubis baboon was studied using a test–retest protocol with [11C]-1 in order to assess test–retest reliability, metabolism and CNS distribution profile of the tracer in non-human primates. Blood sampling was performed throughout the studies for determination of the free fraction in plasma (fP), plasma input functions and m…
Activation and torque deficits in ACL-reconstructed patients 4 months post-operative
2001
This study compares knee extension and flexion torques and electromyographic (EMG) activity of normal and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-reconstructed knees during maximal unilateral isometric and isokinetic tests performed 4–5 months after ACL reconstruction. The subjects consisted of 3 age- and activity-matched groups of 6 subjects: a healthy control group (Ctrl) and 2 groups of patients, with Kenneth-Jones technique using autologous patellar-ligament graft (KJ group) and autologous graft from the semitendinosus tendon (ST group). When compared to the Ctrl group values, each patient group had significant bilateral extension torque deficits in isometric and at slow velocity concentric co…
Traumatic arteriovenous fistula as consequence of TMJ arthroscopic surgery. A case report
2016
The ocurrence of a traumatic arteriovenous fistula after arthroscopic surgery of TMJ represents an extremely rare event. Specifically, this uncommon complication has been described only in a few case reports. In this light, the most frequent symptoms showed by this disease are thrills, bruits, pulsatile tinnitus, and an expansible vascular mass. Importantly, the severity of these symptoms is also dependent on the vessels involved. With regard to the management, is important to note that the vessel ligation with surgery as well as vessel emolization with endovascular procedures have been shown to be effective in the treatment of these cases. In view of that, the present study describes a cas…
Orthotope arterialisierte Lebertransplantation bei Ratten mit Stenttechnik der supra- und infrahepatischen v. cava
2003
The aim of this study was to establish a liver transplant model with a reduced warm ischemic period between cold preservation and completed anastomosis. Male brown Norway rats were used. A cuff was fixed in the portal vein, stents were inserted in the A. hepatica, the suprahepatic and infrahepatic v. cava and in the bile duct. After cross clamping of the recipient liver, another stent, occluded by a small pin, was introduced in the recipient suprahepatic v. cava. After ligation of this recipient suprahepatic caval stent the recipient liver was removed and the cold prepared donor liver was pushed forward along the pin and both suprahepatic stents of recipient and donor were connected. Then c…
P4613Long-term impact of postnatal nutritional programming on cardiac sensitivity to ischemia-reperfusion injury in vivo and on cardio-protective pat…
2019
Abstract Introduction Nutritional disturbances during the postnatal period may be responsible for a predisposition, or “programming”, to increased cardio-metabolic risk and to a progressive alteration of left ventricular contractility in adulthood. This nutritional perinatal programming may also lead to an alteration of cellular pathways involved in cardiac protection, such as the specific RISK and SAFE pathways, highlighted during pre- and post-ischemic conditioning or those of sirtuins (SIRT), histone deacetylases involved in the regulation of essential biological process. Purpose Our aim was to evaluate in mice the impact of postnatal overfeeding (PNOF) on cardiac sensitivity to ischemia…
nrCBF and EEG Monitoring During Probatory Balloon Occlusion of the Internal Carotid Artery
1985
Surgical treatment of tumors in the neck and throat rounding the carotid artery or of giant aneurysms originating from this vessel often makes ligation or resection of the internal carotid artery necessary. This procedure carries a 15%–30% morbidity from cerebral ischemia according to the literature (2, 7).
MRT bei chronischer Epicondylitis humeri radialis an einem 1,0 T-Gerät - Kontrastmittelgabe notwendig?
2001
T: Is Gd-DTPA administration useful Purpose: Evaluation of the diagnostic value and confidence of contrast-enhanced MR imaging in patients with lateral epicondylitis in comparison to clinical diagnosis. Material and Methods: 42 consecutive patients with clinically proven chronic lateral epicondylitis and 10 ellbow joints of healthy controls have been examined on a 1.0 T MR-unit. Criteria for inclusion in the prospective study were: persistant pain and a failed conservative therapy. The MR protocol included STIR sequence, a native, T 2 -weighted, fat-supressed TSE sequence, and a Flash-2-D sequence. Also, fatsupressed, T 1 -weighted SE sequences before and after administration of Gd-DTPA con…
