Derivation of Models for Thin Sprays from a Multiphase Boltzmann Model

We shall review the validation of a class of models for thin sprays where a Vlasov type equation is coupled to an hydrodynamic equation of Navier–Stokes or Stokes type. We present a formal derivation of these models from a multiphase Boltzmann system for a binary mixture: under suitable assumptions on the collision kernels and in appropriate asymptotics (resp. for the two different limit models), we prove the convergence of solutions to the multiphase Boltzmann model to distributional solutions to the Vlasov–Navier–Stokes or Vlasov–Stokes system. Oxidation of organics in water in microfluidic electrochemical reactors: Theoretical model and experiments

The electrochemical oxidation of organics in water performed in micro reactors on boron doped diamond (BDD) anode was investigated both theoretically and experimentally in order to find the influence of various operative parameters on the conversion and the current efficiency CE of the process. The electrochemical oxidation of formic acid (FA) was selected as a model case. High conversions for a single passage of the electrolytic solution inside the cell were obtained by operating with proper residence times and low distances between cathode and anode. Logistic Growth Described by Birth-Death and Diffusion Processes

We consider the logistic growth model and analyze its relevant properties, such as the limits, the monotony, the concavity, the inflection point, the maximum specific growth rate, the lag time, and the threshold crossing time problem. We also perform a comparison with other growth models, such as the Gompertz, Korf, and modified Korf models. Moreover, we focus on some stochastic counterparts of the logistic model. First, we study a time-inhomogeneous linear birth-death process whose conditional mean satisfies an equation of the same form of the logistic one. Weak separation condition, Assouad dimension, and Furstenberg homogeneity

We consider dimensional properties of limit sets of Moran constructions satisfying the finite clustering property. Just to name a few, such limit sets include self-conformal sets satisfying the weak separation condition and certain sub-self-affine sets. In addition to dimension results for the limit set, we manage to express the Assouad dimension of any closed subset of a self-conformal set by means of the Hausdorff dimension. As an interesting consequence of this, we show that a Furstenberg homogeneous self-similar set in the real line satisfies the weak separation condition. We also exhibit a self-similar set which satisfies the open set condition but fails to be Furstenberg homogeneous.

Capital Regulation with Heterogeneous Banks

We provide a general equilibrium analysis of potential consequences from the introduction of a binding leverage ratio, as proposed in Basel III. If banks differ in their monitoring skills and their ability to successfully complete a risky investment project, a tighter leverage ratio does not only mitigate moral hazard arising from limited liability, but also carries an unintended consequence: Banks are not allowed to absorb the entire supply of debt if they cannot raise new equity, which induces agents with a lower monitoring skill to open a bank. Non-Local Scattering Kernel and the Hydrodynamic Limit

In this paper we study the interaction of a fluid with a wall in the framework of the kinetic theory. We consider the possibility that the fluid molecules can penetrate the wall to be reflected by the inner layers of the wall. This results in a scattering kernel which is a non-local generalization of the classical Maxwell scattering kernel. The proposed scattering kernel satisfies a global mass conservation law and a generalized reciprocity relation. We study the hydrodynamic limit performing a Knudsen layer analysis, and derive a new class of (weakly) nonlocal boundary conditions to be imposed to the Navier-Stokes equations.

Turkmenistan, located in the Transcaspian region, has more than 4.8 million inhabitants, of which 85% are Turkmen, 5% Uzbeks, and 4% Russians. Its official national language is Turkmen, spoken by about 72%. Russian is spoken by 12%. In the post-Soviet period, the functions of Turkmen have been broadened and consolidated. Though the language policy aims at limiting the influence of Russian, this language has maintained much of its importance in public communication.

This work describes a new method for the determination of organic compounds in solid samples based on the equilibrium desorption of the analytes in an aqueous phase followed by stir bar sorptive-dispersive microextraction (SBSDME). Sand samples, contaminated with UV filters due to bathing and recreational activities, were dispersed in an aqueous medium by using a coated stir bar with CoFe2O4@oleic acid magnetic nanoparticles.
