One-loop effective action for a generic 2d dilaton gravity theory

1997

We study the one-loop effective action for a generic two-dimensional dilaton gravity theory conformally coupled to $N$ matter fields. We obtain an explicit expression for the effective action in the weak-coupling limit under a suitable restriction of the dilaton potential asymptotics. Our result applies to the CGHS model as well as to the spherically symmetric general relativity. The effective action is obtained by using the background-field method, and we take into account the loop contributions from all the fields in the classical action and from the ghosts. In the large-$N$ limit, and after an appropriate field redefinition, the one-loop correction takes the form of the Polyakov-Liouvill…

The two-loop five-particle amplitude in $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity

2019

We compute for the first time the two-loop five-particle amplitude in $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity. Starting from the known integrand, we perform an integration-by-parts reduction and express the answer in terms of uniform weight master integrals. The latter are known to evaluate to non-planar pentagon functions, described by a 31-letter symbol alphabet. We express the final result for the amplitude in terms of uniform weight four symbols, multiplied by a small set of rational factors. The amplitude satisfies the expected factorization properties when one external graviton becomes soft, and when two external gravitons become collinear. We verify that the soft divergences of the amplitude ex…

On the physical contents of q-deformed Minkowski spaces

1994

Some physical aspects of $q$-deformed spacetimes are discussed. It is pointed out that, under certain standard assumptions relating deformation and quantization, the classical limit (Poisson bracket description) of the dynamics is bound to contain unusual features. At the same time, it is argued that the formulation of an associated $q$-deformed field theory is fraught with serious difficulties.

Fixed points of nonlinear sigma models in d>2

2009

Using Wilsonian methods, we study the renormalization group flow of the Nonlinear Sigma Model in any dimension $d$, restricting our attention to terms with two derivatives. At one loop we always find a Ricci flow. When symmetries completely fix the internal metric, we compute the beta function of the single remaining coupling, without any further approximation. For $d>2$ and positive curvature, there is a nontrivial fixed point, which could be used to define an ultraviolet limit, in spite of the perturbative nonrenormalizability of the theory. Potential applications are briefly mentioned.

Polarized triple-collinear splitting functions at NLO for processes with photons

2014

We compute the polarized splitting functions in the triple collinear limit at next-to-leading order accuracy (NLO) in the strong coupling $\alpha_{\rm S}$, for the splitting processes $\gamma \to q \bar{q} \gamma$, $\gamma \to q \bar{q} g$ and $g \to q \bar{q} \gamma$. The divergent structure of each splitting function was compared to the predicted behaviour according to Catani's formula. The results obtained in this paper are compatible with the unpolarized splitting functions computed in a previous article. Explicit results for NLO corrections are presented in the context of conventional dimensional regularization (CDR).

The QCD analytic effective charge and its dependence on the pion mass

2004

A new model for the QCD analytic running coupling, which incorporates the effects due to the $\pi$ meson mass, is proposed. The properties of this invariant charge in spacelike and timelike regions are examined. Its main distinctive features are a finite infrared limiting value, which depends on the pion mass, and the "plateau-like" behavior in the deep infrared domain of the timelike region.

Integrands of loop amplitudes within loop-tree duality

2020

Using loop-tree duality, we relate a renormalised $n$-point $l$-loop amplitude in a quantum field theory to a phase-space integral of a regularised $l$-fold forward limit of a UV-subtracted $(n+2l)$-point tree-amplitude-like object. We show that up to three loops the latter object is easily computable from recurrence relations. This defines an integrand of the loop amplitude with a global definition of the loop momenta. Field and mass renormalisation are performed in the on-shell scheme.

Functions Characterizing the Ground State of the XXZ Spin-1/2 Chain in the Thermodynamic Limit

2013

We establish several properties of the solutions to the linear integral equations describing the infinite volume properties of the XXZ spin-1/2 chain in the disordered regime. In particular, we obtain lower and upper bounds for the dressed energy, dressed charge and density of Bethe roots. Furthermore, we establish that given a fixed external magnetic field (or a fixed magnetization) there exists a unique value of the boundary of the Fermi zone.

The $q$-calculus for generic $q$ and $q$ a root of unity

1996

The $q$-calculus for generic $q$ is developed and related to the deformed oscillator of parameter $q^{1/2}$. By passing with care to the limit in which $q$ is a root of unity, one uncovers the full algebraic structure of ${{\cal Z}}_n$-graded fractional supersymmetry and its natural representation.

A novel integral representation for the Adler function

2005

New integral representations for the Adler D-function and the R-ratio of the electron-positron annihilation into hadrons are derived in the general framework of the analytic approach to QCD. These representations capture the nonperturbative information encoded in the dispersion relation for the D-function, the effects due to the interrelation between spacelike and timelike domains, and the effects due to the nonvanishing pion mass. The latter plays a crucial role in this analysis, forcing the Adler function to vanish in the infrared limit. Within the developed approach the D-function is calculated by employing its perturbative approximation as the only additional input. The obtained result …
