Nuclear density functional theory with a semi-contact 3-body interaction

2015

International audience; Theories combining nuclear density functional approach (DFT) and effects beyond the independent particle/quasi-particle limit have attracted much attention recently. In particular, such theories, generically referred as “beyond mean-field” (BMF) seem unavoidable to account for both single-particle effects and complex quantum internal phenomena in nuclear finite many-body nuclear systems. It has been realized recently that BMF theories might lead to specific difficulties when applied within the nuclear DFT context. An example is the appearance of divergences in configuration mixing approaches. A short summary of the difficulties is given here. One source of problem is…

Topologies on Partial O*-Algebras

2002

In this chapter, we introduce some basic locally convex topologies on partial O*-algebras and we establish general properties of these topologies. In Section 4.1, we compare the graph topologies induced by different O-families on the same domain (and the corresponding families of bounded subsets). In the case where the domain D M of an O-family M is a (quasi-) Frechet space, the structure of bounded subsets in D M can be described in a rather explicit way. Section 4.2 and Section 4.3 are devoted to the topologization of (partial) O*-algebras. Section 4.2 deals with locally convex topologies, the so-called uniform topologies τ u , τ u , τ * u and quasiuniform topologies τ qu , and Section 4.…

Electrokinetic Phenomena Revisited: A Lattice—Boltzmann Approach

2003

The Lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM) is an efficient tool to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. Based on this method we have developed a scheme to investigate electrokinetic phenomena in charged colloidal suspensions. The equations of motion that are solved are the so-called electrokinetic equations, i.e. a set of partial differential equations that couple the gradient of the electrostatic potential to the hydrodynamic flow by means of a mean field theory. These equations have been extensively used to study electroviscous phenomena for the limit of a weakly charged sphere in an unbounded electrolyte. We demonstrate that our method can be applied beyond these limit. As an example we discuss th…

Simulation of vapor-liquid coexistence in finite volumes: a method to compute the surface free energy of droplets.

2009

When a fluid at a constant density $\ensuremath{\rho}$ in between the densities of coexisting vapor $({\ensuremath{\rho}}_{\text{v}})$ and liquid $({\ensuremath{\rho}}_{\ensuremath{\ell}})$ at temperatures below criticality is studied in a (cubic) box of finite linear dimension $L$, phase separation occurs in this finite volume, provided $L$ is large enough. For a range of densities, one can observe a liquid droplet (at density ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{\ensuremath{\ell}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ slightly exceeding ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{\ensuremath{\ell}}$) coexisting in stable thermal equilibrium with surrounding vapor (with density ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{\text{v}}^{\ensuremath{'}}g{\ensuremath{\rho}}…

Modic changes-Their associations with low back pain and activity limitation: A systematic literature review and meta-analysis.

2018

Background Previous systematic reviews have reported positive associations between Modic changes (MCs) and low back pain (LBP), but due to their narrow scope and new primary studies, there is a need for a comprehensive systematic review. Our objectives were to investigate if MCs are associated with non-specific LBP and/or activity limitation and if such associations are modified by other factors. Methods A protocol for this review was registered at PROSPERO prior to commencing the work (PROSPERO record: CRD42015017350). The MEDLINE, CINAHL and EMBASE databases were searched for relevant studies from first record to June 15th 2016. Prospective or retrospective cross-sectional cohort studies …

Correlation functions for a strongly coupled boson system and plane partitions.

2011

A quantum phase model is introduced as a limit for very strong interactions of a strongly correlated q -boson hopping model. The exact solution of the phase model is reviewed, and solutions are also provided for two correlation functions of the model. Explicit expressions, including both amplitude and scaling exponent, are derived for these correlation functions in the low temperature limit. The amplitudes were found to be related to the number of plane partitions contained in boxes of finite size.

Superresolved imaging of remote moving targets.

2006

We present a superresolving approach that allows one to exceed the diffraction limit and recover highly resolved contours of moving targets from a sequence of low-resolution images. The presented approach is suitable for remote sensing applications. The resolution decoding algorithm that is used to recover the high-resolution features of the target can be run partially via optical means and that way can be used to reduce the required computational complexity.

A reliable incremental method of computing the limit load in deformation plasticity based on compliance : Continuous and discrete setting

2016

The aim of this paper is to introduce an enhanced incremental procedure that can be used for the numerical evaluation and reliable estimation of the limit load. A conventional incremental method of limit analysis is based on parametrization of the respective variational formulation by the loading parameter ? ? ( 0 , ? l i m ) , where ? l i m is generally unknown. The enhanced incremental procedure is operated in terms of an inverse mapping ? : α ? ? where the parameter α belongs to ( 0 , + ∞ ) and its physical meaning is work of applied forces at the equilibrium state. The function ? is continuous, nondecreasing and its values tend to ? l i m as α ? + ∞ . Reduction of the problem to a finit…
