Computable majorants of the limit load in Hencky’s plasticity problems

Abstract We propose a new method for analyzing the limit (safe) load of elastoplastic media governed by the Hencky plasticity law and deduce fully computable bounds of this load. The main idea of the method is based on a combination of kinematic approach and new estimates of the distance to the set of divergence free fields. We show that two sided bounds of the limit load are sharp and the computational efficiency of the method is confirmed by numerical experiments.

Ce cours a pour principal sujet la discrétisation de certaines conditions limites sur le bord d'un domaine à l'aide de la méthode des éléments finis. Nous étudions en particulier des problèmes elliptiques avec conditions de Dirichlet non-homogènes, puis avec conditions de Signorini. Les conditions de Signorini sont des conditions de contact unilatéral entre un solide et un support rigide. Différentes méthodes sont passées en revue, et nous détaillons l'analyse pour les méthodes classiques et celle de Nitsche.

The main aim of this paper is to consider from different points of view the thesis of a conservative character of Peirce’s thought. The paper consists of two parts. In the first part, arguments for Peirce’s conservatism are presented. They are of two kinds: inner ones (Peirce’s own declarations) and outer ones (a comparison of Peirce’s view o the views of two other classical pragmatists: James and Dewey). Lower bound limit analysis by bem: Convex optimization problem and incremental approach

Abstract The lower bound limit approach of the classical plasticity theory is rephrased using the Multidomain Symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method, under conditions of plane and initial strains, ideal plasticity and associated flow rule. The new formulation couples a multidomain procedure with nonlinear programming techniques and defines the self-equilibrium stress field by an equation involving all the substructures (bem-elements) of the discretized system. Limits on point-like sources of ultra-high-energy neutrinos with the Pierre Auger Observatory

With the Surface Detector array (SD) of the Pierre Auger Observatory we can detect neutrinos with energy between 1017 eV and 1020 eV from point-like sources across the sky, from close to the Southern Celestial Pole up to 60 in declination, with peak sensitivities at declinations around ∼-53 and ∼+55, and an unmatched sensitivity for arrival directions in the Northern hemisphere. A search has been performed for highly-inclined air showers induced by neutrinos of all flavours with no candidate events found in data taken between 1 Jan 2004 and 31 Aug 2018. It is distributed through North Africa, central and southern Europe, from Portugal in the West to the Caucasus and Asia Minor in the East. Approximately 70% of the species are endemic to the Iberian Peninsula constituting its main center of speciation with 34 species. Search for heavy neutrinos with the T2K near detector ND280

This paper reports on the search for heavy neutrinos with masses in the range 140<MN<493 MeV/c2 using the off-axis near detector ND280 of the T2K experiment. These particles can be produced from kaon decays in the standard neutrino beam and then subsequently decay in ND280. The decay modes under consideration are N→ℓ±απ∓ and N→ℓ+αℓ−β(−)ν(α,β=e,μ). A search for such events has been made using the Time Projection Chambers of ND280, where the background has been reduced to less than two events in the current dataset in all channels.
