Study of the Fragmentation of D-Glucose and Alkylmonoglycosides in the Presence of Sodium Ions in an Ion-Trap Mass Spectrometer

Abstract Using electrospray ion-trap mass spectrometry, the fragmentation of D-glucose and alkylmonoglycopyranosides (alkyl-GPs) was studied. In the presence of Na+, B1 and 0,2A fragmentations were observed. The alkyl-GPs also showed a 2,5Afragmentation. A cluster containing no carbon atoms and adducts of this cluster with neutral molecules were observed. Standards of alkylmonoglycofuranosides (alkyl-GFs) were not available; however, their fragmentation was studied by high-performace liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) and HPLC-MS2 using an industrial mixture of alkylpolyglycosides. International audience; The human colon cancer cell line HT-29 remains totally undifferentiated when glucose is present in the culture medium (HT-29 Glc+), while the same cells may undergo typical enterocytic differentiation after reaching confluence when grown in glucose-deprived medium (HT-29 Glc-). Metformin induces lipid changes on sphingolipid species and oxidized lipids in polycystic ovary syndrome women.

Metformin is one of the treatments used for pcoS pathology decreasing body weight, plasma androgen, FSH and glucose levels. Unfortunately, there is little known about metformin’s effects on lipid metabolism, a crucial process in pcoS pathology. We have employed a lipidomic approach to explore alterations in the plasma lipid profile of patients with PCOS following metformin treatment. Gibberellic acid stimulates lipid metabolism in barley aleurone protoplasts

Abstract Changes in the lipid composition of barley aleurone protoplasts following incubation in the presence or absence of gibberellic acid (GA) were studied and correlated with cell development. Analysis of neutral lipids in protoplast extracts and purified lipid bodies provide evidence for the strong effect of GA on the mobilization of storage lipids. In vivo protoplast staining with the membrane marker N -phenyl-l-naphthylamine (NPN) and phospholipid determinations of protoplast extracts show an increase in membrane lipids during protoplast incubation. To study the ability of long-chain trans fatty acids (FA) to be incorporated and metabolized into endothelial cells, bovine aortic endothelial cells were incubated with medium enriched eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) bound to albumin (M2) or one of its geometrical isomers: 20:5 5c,8c,11t,14c,17c (M3), 20:5 5c,8c,11c,14c,17t (M4), or 20:5 5c,8c,11t,14c,17t (M5). Fuel Cell Systems (FCS) seem to be among the most reliable devices to produce clean energy, although they still suffer for many problems, mostly related to the fragility of the Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM). Particularly, this paper focuses on the oxygen starvation, that leads both a decrease of the FCS performance and a shortening in the FCS lifetime.
