Abstract Half of the patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 fail to respond to pegylated interferon alpha (PEG-IFN) and ribavirin (RBV) therapy. This study assesses the effects of treatment on the evolution of the E1–E2 viral region in non-responder patients infected with HCV-1b. Twenty-three HCV-1b chronically infected patients were studied retrospectively, including 19 non-responders to PEG-IFN/RBV therapy (11 null-responders and 8 relapsers) in the study group, and 4 untreated patients in the control group. Anidulafungin dosing in critically ill patients with continuous venovenous haemodiafiltration

Background Anidulafungin is indicated as a first-line treatment for invasive candidiasis in critically ill patients. In the intensive care unit, sepsis is the main cause of acute renal failure, and treatment with continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) has increased in recent years. Antimicrobial pharmacokinetics is affected by CRRT, but few studies have addressed the optimal dosage for anidulafungin during CRRT. Evaluation of the diagnostic performances of two commercially available assays for the detection of enteric adenovirus antigens

The performance of 2 antigenic commercial assays for enteric adenovirus (AdV) infection, bioNexia Rota-Adeno ImmunoChromatographic Tests (ICT) and LIAISON® Adenovirus ChemiLuminescence Immuno Assays (CLIA), was evaluated on 321 stools from children hospitalized for acute gastroenteritis in Palermo, Italy, using a Real time-PCR (Rt-PCR) as reference method. The CLIA showed higher sensitivity (77% vs 60%), accuracy (94.4 vs 90.9) and concordance (k: 0.81 vs 0.67) with respect to ICT, despite equivalent specificity (98.8%). In this paper, an agent-based simulation model for a hybrid power market structure is presented. A bilateral transaction mechanism is combined with a uniform-pricing auction settlement in order to isolate the impact of medium-term bilateral contracts on market power and spot prices in a competitive wholesale market setting. First we describe the negotiation method for bilateral trading of energy and then introduce a new approach for bidding in the DA market based on the load duration curve.
