Hurwitz spaces of coverings with two special fibers and monodromy group a Weyl group of typeBd
2012
f! Y; where is a degree-two coverings with n1 branch points and branch locus D and f is a degree-d coverings with n2 points of simple branching and two special points whose local monodromy is given by e and q, respectively. Furthermore the covering f has monodromy group Sd and f. D /\ D fD? where D f denotes the branch locus of f . We prove that the corresponding Hurwitz spaces are irreducible under the hypothesis n2 s r dC 1.
Deuring’s mass formula of a Mumford family
2015
We study the Newton polygon jumping locus of a Mumford family in char p p . Our main result says that, under a mild assumption on p p , the jumping locus consists of only supersingular points and its cardinality is equal to ( p r − 1 ) ( g − 1 ) (p^r-1)(g-1) , where r r is the degree of the defining field of the base curve of a Mumford family in char p p and g g is the genus of the curve. The underlying technique is the p p -adic Hodge theory.

Mirror symmetry and toric degenerations of partial flag manifolds
1998
In this paper we propose and discuss a mirror construction for complete intersections in partial flag manifolds $F(n_1, ..., n_l, n)$. This construction includes our previous mirror construction for complete intersection in Grassmannians and the mirror construction of Givental for complete flag manifolds. The key idea of our construction is a degeneration of $F(n_1, ..., n_l, n)$ to a certain Gorenstein toric Fano variety $P(n_1, ..., n_l, n)$ which has been investigated by Gonciulea and Lakshmibai. We describe a natural small crepant desingularization of $P(n_1, ..., n_l, n)$ and prove a generalized version of a conjecture of Gonciulea and Lakshmibai on the singular locus of $P(n_1, ..., n…
The Benefits of Believing in Chance or Fate: External Locus of Control as a Protective Factor for Coping with the Death of a Spouse
2010
The death of a spouse is an extremely stressful life event that consequently causes a large drop in life satisfaction. Reactivity to the loss, however, varies markedly, a phenomenon that is currently not well understood. Because lack of controllability essentially contributes to the stressful nature of this incident, the authors analyzed whether individual differences in belief in external control influence the coping process. To examine this issue, widowed individuals ( N = 414) from a large-scaled panel study were followed for the 4 years before and after the loss by using a latent growth model. Results showed that belief in external control led to a considerably smaller decline in life …
The Relation Between Maternal Locus of Control And Coping Styles of Pediatric Leukemia Patients During Treatment
2020
The present study focuses on the relation between coping strategies of children with leukemia during treatment and locus of control of their mothers. In particular, the study aims to determine whether maternal locus of control can influence sick children’s coping styles, and if this relation can be used to predict maladjustments. The study analyzed a cohort of 60 pediatric leukemia patients undergoing treatment and a group formed by their mothers. The participants were recruited from two Pediatric Onco- Hematology Units in Italy. The Child Behavioral Style Scale (CBSS) was used to assess children’s coping strategies, whereas the Parental Health Locus of Control Scale (PHLCS) was employed to…
Cardiac threat appraisal and depression after first myocardial infarction
2012
The present study investigated cardiac threat appraisal and its association with depression after first myocardial infarction (MI). A semi-structured interview allowing for DSM-IV-Axis I diagnoses was administered to 36 patients after first MI. Patients completed self-reports 5 to 15 days after the MI (time 1), 6 to 8 weeks later (time 2) and again 6 months later (time 3). Assessments at time 1 included indices of cardiac threat appraisal, locus of control, coping, and depression while at time 2 and time 3 only measures of depression were obtained. Cardiac threat appraisal was significantly correlated with depression at time 1, but was unrelated to depression scores at time 2 and time 3. Fu…

Deinococcus radiodurans' SRA-HNH domain containing protein Shp (Dr1533) is involved in faithful genome inheritance maintenance following DNA damage
2018
WOS:000452343100012; International audience; Background: Deinococcus radiodurans R1 (DR) survives conditions of extreme desiccation, irradiation and exposure to genotoxic chemicals, due to efficient DNA breaks repair, also through Mn2+ protection of DNA repair enzymes. Methods: Possible annotated domains of the DR1533 locus protein (Shp) were searched by bioinformatic analysis. The gene was cloned and expressed as fusion protein. Band-shift assays of Shp or the SRA and HNH domains were performed on oligonucleotides, genomic DNA from E. coif and DR. slip knock-out mutant was generated by homologous recombination with a kanamycin resistance cassette. Results: DR1533 contains an N-terminal SRA…
Asynchronous replication dynamics of imprinted and non-imprinted chromosome regions in early mouse embryos.
2008
We have used interphase FISH to analyze the replication behavior of four imprinted chromosome regions (Snrpn, Zim1-Peg3, Dlk1-Gtl2, and Igf2r) and five non-imprinted regions in mouse one-cell to morula-stage embryos and embryonic fibroblasts. In general, imprinted chromosome regions showed the expected asynchronous pattern of replication throughout all analyzed stages of preimplantation development and in differentiated cells. The Dlk1-Gtl2 locus which is not expressed and Igf2r which is biallelically expressed in early embryos showed a relaxation of replication asynchrony at the morula stage. Asynchronous replication in zygotes and two-cell embryos was not specific to imprinted regions. Th…
