Integrative analysis of the mineralogical and chemical composition of modern microbialites from ten Mexican lakes: What do we learn about their forma…

2021

International audience; Interpreting the environmental conditions under which ancient microbialites formed relies upon comparisons with modern analogues. This is why we need a detailed reference framework relating the chemical and mineralogical compositions of modern microbialites to the physical and chemical parameters prevailing in the environments where they form. Here, we measured the chemical, including major and trace elements, and mineralogical composition of microbialites from ten Mexican lakes as well as the chemical composition of the surrounding waters. Saturation states of lakes with different mineral phases were systematically determined and correlations between solution and so…

RBS and ERD cross-sections and optical model parameters for the analysis of lithium, boron and nickel

2000

Abstract Elastic scattering cross-sections for RBS analysis of nickel by 7 Li and 11 B ion backscattering near the Coulomb barrier have been determined. The lithium ion measurements were performed in the energy range of 8–15 MeV at the laboratory angles of 115° and 135°. For boron ions the energies between 14 and 24 MeV and scattering angles of 89°, 110° and 130° were used. For the analysis of lithium and boron by ERD the scattering cross-sections have been calculated by kinematically reversing the backscattering process. The calculated 58 Ni ion energies thus varied between 65 and 125 MeV for lithium and between 75 and 130 MeV for boron recoils. For the Li + Ni and B + Ni systems the thres…

Nanoparticle dispersion in liquid metals by electromagnetically induced acoustic cavitation

2016

Abstract Aim of this study is to investigate experimentally the effect of magnetically induced cavitation applied for the purpose of nanoparticle dispersion in liquid metals. The oscillating magnetic force due to the azimuthal induction currents and the axial magnetic field excites power ultrasound in the sample. If the fields are sufficiently high then it is possible to achieve the acoustic cavitation threshold in liquid metals. Cavitation bubble collapses are known to create microscale jets with a potential to break nanoparticle agglomerates and disperse them. The samples are solidified under the contactless ultrasonic treatment and later analyzed by electron microscopy and energy-dispers…

Reactive Sintering of molybdenum disilicide by Spark Plasma Sintering from mechanically activated powder mixtures: Processing parameters and properti…

2008

Abstract Dense molybdenum disilicide with a nano-organized microstructure was synthesized by mechanical activation, by producing nanostructured agglomerates of a 1:2 mixture of Mo and Si, followed by the synthesis/consolidation in one step using SPS technology. In order to synthesize a dense molybdenum disilicide with a perfectly controlled microstructure, an investigation of the influence of Spark Plasma Sintering processing parameters (temperature, heating rate, mechanical pressure and holding time) on the chemical composition and the microstructure characteristics has been performed. The present work shows also that the so-obtained materials present better oxidation resistance in compari…

Exploring the Chemoselectivity towards Cysteine Arylation by Cyclometallated Au III Compounds: New Mechanistic Insights

2020

To gain more insight into the factors controlling the efficient cysteine arylation by cyclometalated Au(III) complexes, the reaction between selected gold compounds and different peptides was investigated by high‐resolution liquid chromatography electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR‐LC‐ESI‐MS). The deducted mechanisms of C–S cross‐coupling, also supported by density functional theory (DFT) and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations, evidenced the key role of secondary peptidic gold binding sites in favouring the process of reductive elimination.

Versatile behavior of conjugated diynes with zirconocene reactive species

2008

Thermal decomposition of Cp2ZrPh2 in the presence of the buta-1,3-diynes RC≡CC≡CR (R = Ph, SiMe3) can lead to seven- or five-membered metallacycles. In both cases a stable benzo-fused seven-membered zirconacyclocumulene arising from a 2-fold insertion of the triple bonds of the dialkyne in the in situ generated zirconocene benzyne is formed. In the case of Me3SiC≡CC≡CSiMe3 a second minor complex is isolated: a 3-alkynyl-substituted zirconaindene arising from a β monoinsertion of one acetylenic function of the conjugated diyne in the zirconocene benzyne. No stable 2-alkynyl-substituted zirconacycle was isolated. This α monoinsertion complex is an intermediate in the exchange of the metalated…

A family of heterotetrameric clusters of chloride species and halomethanes held by two halogen and two hydrogen bonds

2016

Two previously reported 1,3,5,7,9-pentaazanona-1,3,6,8-tetraenate (PANT) chloride platinum(II) complexes [PtCl{HNC(R)NCN[C(Ph)C(Ph)]CNC(R)NH}] (R = tBu 1, Ph 2) form solvates with halomethanes 1·1¼CH2Cl2, 1·1⅖CH2Br2, and 2·CHCl3. All these species feature novel complex-solvent heterotetrameric clusters, where the structural units are linked simultaneously by two C–X⋯Cl–Pt (X = Cl, Br) halogen and two C–H⋯Cl–Pt hydrogen bonds. The geometric parameters of these weak interactions were determined using single-crystal XRD, and the natures of the XBs and HBs in the clusters were studied for the isolated model systems (1)2·(CH2Cl2)2, (1)2·(CH2Br2)2, and (2)2·(CHCl3)2 using DFT calculations and Bad…

Measuring rill erosion using structure from motion: A plot experiment

2017

Abstract In this paper the results of a plot experiment on rill erosion are reported. The rill network, manually incised on the soil and further shaped by a clear inflow discharge, was surveyed using the three-dimensional photo-reconstruction (3D-PR) technique which allows to obtain a digital terrain model (DTM) by a large series of oblique images of the channel from consumer un-calibrated and non-metric cameras. The three-dimensional (3D) DTM and the quasi-tridimensional (2.5D) model were generated by Agisoft Photoscan software. For a single rill channel, the reliability of the 3D image-based ground measurements of morphological and hydraulic variables was positively tested by the correspo…

Using scintillometry to assess reference evapotranspiration methods and their impact on the water balance of olive groves

2016

Abstract Reference evapotranspiration (ET 0 ) is widely used for irrigation scheduling, to promote an efficient use of water resources for a sustainable agro-ecosystem productivity, as well as to manage water quality and to face other environmental concerns. As suggested by ASCE-EWRI and FAO, standard Penman–Monteith methods are generally applied for an accurate estimation of ET 0 from hourly to daily scale. In absence of detailed meteorological information several simplified equations, using a limited number of variables, have been proposed as alternative. In this paper, the performance of different reference evapotranspiration methods, at hourly (Penman–Monteith, Pristley–Taylor, Makkink …
