Conceptualization of relative size by honeybees

The ability to process visual information using relational rules allows for decisions independent of the specific physical attributes of individual stimuli. Until recently, the manipulation of relational concepts was considered as a prerogative of large mammalian brains. Here we show that individual free flying honeybees can learn to use size relationship rules to choose either the larger or smaller stimulus as the correct solution in a given context, and subsequently apply the learnt rule to novel colors and shapes providing that there is sufficient input to the long wavelength (green) photoreceptor channel. The aim of this three-wave cross-lagged longitudinal study was to examine the prospective relationships between women’s goal-related spousal support and their relationship satisfaction during the transition to parenthood. Abstract: Results are presented from data recorded in 2009 by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider for the double-longitudinal spin asymmetry, A LL , for π 0 and η production in ffiffiffi s p ¼ 200 GeV polarized p þ p collisions. Comparison of the π 0 results with different theory expectations based on fits of other published data showed a preference for small positive values of gluon polarization, Δ G , in the proton in the probed Bjorken x range. Acute morphine administration produces hyperactivity in most strains of mice and some studies indicate that repeated treatment can induce a potentiation of this effect (sensitisation). With the object of determining whether the hyperactivity induced by morphine in OF1 mice shows sensitisation after repeated administration, we tested the effect of the pre-exposure to six daily injections of morphine on the subsequent hyperactivity induced by the same dose of this drug. The present paper investigates the effect of organizational variables on long term retention of material recycled under maintenance rehearsal. Subjects repeated a series of words as a distracting task, expecting to be tested on the recall of numbers (GLENBERG & ADAMS, 1978). An unexpected test on the recall of words showed the superiority of the recall of organized words, and a significant interaction of organization by time spent in repetition of the distractor material. Abstract This study aims to analyze, in mice, the long-term effects of delayed fatherhood on reproductive fitness and longevity of offspring. Hybrid parental-generation (F0) males, at the age of 12, 70, 100, and 120 wk, were individually housed with a randomly selected 12-wk-old hybrid female. The reproductive fitness of first-generation (F1) females was tested from the age of 25 wk until the end of their reproductive life.
