Background Collagen VI related myopathies encompass a range of phenotypes with involvement of skeletal muscle, skin and other connective tissues. They represent a severe and relatively common form of congenital disease for which there is no treatment. Collagen VI in skeletal muscle and skin is produced by fibroblasts. Abstract Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is one of the most common single gene disorders, which is mostly inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. The physical signs of FH are elevated low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), elevated total cholesterol (TC) levels and tendon xantomas. Identification and early treatment of affected individuals is desirable and in lack of physical symptoms DNA-based diagnosis provides confirmation of diagnosis and enables early patient management. The majority of FH cases are caused by mutations in four genes (APOB, LADLR, PCSK9, and LDLRAP1). Modulating PI3K at different stages of dendritic cells (DC) generation could be a novel means to balance the generation of immunosuppressive versus immunostimulatory DC. We show that PI3K inhibition during mouse DC generation in vitro results in cells that are potently immunosuppressive and characteristic of CD8alpha- CD11c+ CD11b+ DC. These DC exhibited low surface class I and class II MHC, CD40, and CD86 and did not produce TNF-alpha. In allogeneic MLR, these DC were suppressive. Although in these mixed cultures, there was no increase in the frequency of CD4+ CD25+ Foxp3+ cells, the Foxp3 content on a per cell basis was significantly increased. A striking feature of human visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is chronic inflammation in the spleen and liver, and VL patients present increased production levels of multiple inflammatory mediators, which contribute to tissue damage and disease severity. Here, we combined an experimental model with the transcriptional profile of human VL to demonstrate that the TLR4-IFN-β pathway regulates the chronic inflammatory process and is associated with the asymptomatic form of the disease. Tlr4-deficient mice harbored fewer parasites in their spleen and liver than wild-type mice. Conrad—the last Polish Romantic—did not only manage to introduce Polish dreams and longings into English (and Western) literature, but also transformed the Polish experience into a universal one. Writing about exotic, faraway places, he disseminated myths concerning Polish national identity, chivalric tradition and the Polish Eastern Borderland atmosphere and ethos. Abstract Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) contamination in aquatic system is of concern since it may constitute a sink of these contaminants for wetland ecosystem. We investigated pollution characteristics and ecological risks of PAHs by sampling contaminated sediments and water from the Shadegan wetland in Khuzestan province, south-west Iran. Concentrations of total PAHs in water and sediment samples varied from 42 ± 2.3–136 ± 7.5 ng/L and 10 ± 0.5–317 ± 14.3 µg/kg, respectively.
