An analysis of interface delamination mechanisms in orthotropic and hybrid fiber-metal composite laminates
2007
Abstract The onset and propagation of interlaminar defects is one of the main damage mechanisms in composite materials. This is even more the case when considering layered materials comprising metallic laminae (typically Aluminium) and FRP laminae. Propagation of delamination mainly depends on the initial crack extension and its loading mode. This work presents some results of a combined analytical–numerical–experimental study on the onset and propagation mechanisms regarding interlaminar defects. Two cases have been analysed in particular, the first consisting of a glass-fibre reinforced epoxy resin laminate, and the second consisting of a hybrid laminate where a lamina of aluminium is lay…
Funksjonell leddstabilitet i skulder: EMG-aktivering under stabile og ustabile forhold
2007
Novel LRPPRC compound heterozygous mutation in a child with early-onset Leigh syndrome French-Canadian type: Case report of an Italian patient
2020
Abstract Background Mitochondrial diseases, also known as oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) disorders, with a prevalence rate of 1:5000, are the most frequent inherited metabolic diseases. Leigh Syndrome French Canadian type (LSFC), is caused by mutations in the nuclear gene (2p16) leucine-rich pentatricopeptide repeat-containing (LRPPRC). It is an autosomal recessive neurogenetic OXPHOS disorder, phenotypically distinct from other types of Leigh syndrome, with a carrier frequency up to 1:23 and an incidence of 1:2063 in the Saguenay-Lac-St Jean region of Quebec. Recently, LSFC has also been reported outside the French-Canadian population. Patient presentation We report a male Italian (Sic…
The MITOS system predicts long-term survival in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
2015
ObjectiveThe choice of adequate proxy for long-term survival, the ultimate outcome in randomised clinical trials (RCT) assessing disease-modifying treatments for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is a key issue. The intrinsic limitations of the ALS Functional Rating Scale-Revised (ALSFRS-R), including non-linearity, multidimensionality and floor-effect, have emerged and its usefulness argued. The ALS Milano-Torino staging (ALS-MITOS) system was proposed as a novel tool to measure the progression of ALS and overcome these limitations. This study was performed to validate the ALS-MITOS as a 6-month proxy of survival in 200 ALS patients followed up to 18 months.MethodsAnalyses were performe…
Plasma cortisol level in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
2015
Background. Amyotrophic Lateral sclerosis (ALS) is associated with a significant distress, being linked to changes in hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activity. A loss of cortisol circadian rhythmicity in ALS patients was suggested, while more recently an increased plasma cortisol level in the disease has been reported. Objective. To assay the circadian plasma cortisol level in ALS and to study its relationship with the clinical phenotype and the rate of disease progression. Patients and methods. 135 ALS patients (Bulbar, 33; Spinal, 102; M/F = 1.73) and 110 controls (not affected by neurological or psychiatric disorders, free of drugs; M/F = 1.75) were recruited. Disease progression was…

Rapid shifting of a deep magmatic source at Fagradalsfjall volcano, Iceland
2022
AbstractRecent Icelandic rifting events have illuminated the roles of centralized crustal magma reservoirs and lateral magma transport1–4, important characteristics of mid-ocean ridge magmatism1,5. A consequence of such shallow crustal processing of magmas4,5 is the overprinting of signatures that trace the origin, evolution and transport of melts in the uppermost mantle and lowermost crust6,7. Here we present unique insights into processes occurring in this zone from integrated petrologic and geochemical studies of the 2021 Fagradalsfjall eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. Geochemical analyses of basalts erupted during the first 50 days of the eruption, combined with associate…

Masteroppgave ledelse ORG917 - Universitetet i Agder 2017 Dropout is considered a major social problem in Norway, and approximately 3 out of 10 students do not finish upper secondary school within 5 years. The consequences of dropout are negative for both individuals and society. One of the consequences is that young adults without secondary education may be experiencing difficulties getting in to a labour market that increasingly requires highly-skilled labor. There are many reasons why students drop out of school, and there are no easy solutions. Therefore, a number of studies have been exploring possible causes for drop out in the recent years. Existing research has primarily been aimed …
