In a family with juvenile metachromatic leukodystrophy (sulfatide lipidosis) 2 patients showed residual arysulfatase A activities of 5--6%. The patients' healthy father was characterized biochemically by a 39% normal activity of leukocyte plus plasma arylsulfatase A. The father was further characterized by a high sulfatide excretion (0.2--0.5 mg/I urine) and, paradoxically, by a normal sulfatide degrading enzyme activity in vitro. This special carrier is suspected to be heterozygous for a) arylsulfatase A deficiency and b) arylsulfatase A (sulfatidase) lability. Krāsu kalibrēšanas algoritma izstrāde

Darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 24 lapaspusēm. Tas satur 16 attēlus, 4 pielikumus un 19 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis: Pārbaudīt un modificēt datoru monitoru krāsu kalibrēšanas algoritmu. Metode: Pētījumā tika izmantos NEC monitors, kuram tika noskaidroti esoša krāsu kalibrēšanas algoritma koeficienti un tika ierosināta šī algoritma modificēšana, t.sk. precīzi noskaidrotas lineārās sakarības starp katra krāsu kanāla X un Z integrālsummām un spožuma vērtībām. Rezultāti: Neviens no algoritmiem (standarta un modificēts) nenodrošina ideālu rezultātu, kā arī neviens no algoritmiem neuzrāda ka viens būtu labāks par otru.

Electrostatic contribution to the interaction of α, β poly (N-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide with sodium dodecylsulfate micelles

The enthalpic effect due to the interaction between α, β poly(N-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) and sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) in aqueous solutions as a function of the surfactant concentration was measured by the calorimetric technique at various NaCl concentrations. A marked influence of the added electrolyte on the PHEA-SDS interaction was observed. An analysis of the experimental enthalpies allows to estimate the electrostatic and the hydrophobic contributions to the enthalpy of interaction between PHEA and SDS micelles. The results were rationalized in terms of effects due to the screening of the charges residing on PHEA and SDS micelles.

Pulmonary function is impaired in untreated mucopolysaccharidosis type VI (MPS VI). Pulmonary function was studied in patients during long-term enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with recombinant human arylsulfatase B (rhASB; rhN-acetylgalactosamine 4-sulfatase). Pulmonary function tests prior to and for up to 240 weeks of weekly infusions of rhASB at 1 mg/kg were completed in 56 patients during Phase 1/2, Phase 2, Phase 3 and Phase 3 Extension trials of rhASB and the Survey Study. Maģistra darbā sasniegts mērķis izzināt paleoģeogrāfiskos apstākļus Vilkmuižas un Talsu ezera attīstības laikā un, veicot ezera nogulumu pētījumus, noskaidrot liecības par seno cilvēku klātbūtni. Darbā sniegts neliels Vilkmuižas un Talsu ezeru raksturojums, kā arī pētījumā izmantoto metožu apraksts. Savukārt iegūtie rezultāti ļauj veikt paleoģeogrāfisko apstākļu izmaiņu interpretāciju abu ezeru attīstības gaitu. Pētījumā tiek meklētas cilvēku liecības ezeru nogulumos, īpaši interesējoties par iespējamo seno kuršu 12.-14.gs darbību liecībām, tomēr konkrētu pierādījumu seno kuršu darbībai netika iegūti, attiecīgā datējuma trūkuma dēļ. AbstractIt is shown that the intracellular glutathione (GSH) concentration of neuroblastoma-2a cells in culture increases with a maximum at 24 h after starting treatment with 1-(5-isoquinolinylsulfonyl)-2-methylpiperazine (H7), an inhibitor of protein kinase C (PKC). Other inhibitors of this and other protein kinases, e.g. sphingosine, staurosporine, and HA 1004, at the concentrations tested, had a less marked or negligible effect on intracellular GSH concentration. 12-O-Tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) was also tested and showed no significant effect 24 h after addition.
