Perfusion of surgical cavity wall enhancement in early post-treatment MR imaging may stratify the time-to-progression in glioblastoma

Objective To determine if perfusion in surgical cavity wall enhancement (SCWE) obtained in early post-treatment MR imaging can stratify time-to-progression (TTP) in glioblastoma. Materials and methods This study enrolled 60 glioblastoma patients with more than 5-mm-thick SCWEs as detected on contrast-enhanced MR imaging after concurrent chemoradiation therapy. Two independent readers categorized the shape and perfusion state of SCWEs as nodular or non-nodular and as having positive or negative perfusion compared with the contralateral grey matter on arterial spin labeling (ASL). Small volume resuscitation with tempol is detrimental during uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock in rats.

In a previous study, titration of a hypertonic saline (HTS) solution during severe uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock (UHS) failed to reduce mortality. In a separate study, a novel antioxidant, polynitroxylated albumin (PNA) plus tempol (4-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl), infused during shock increased long-term survival. We hypothesized that combining potent antioxidants with a hypertonic solution during UHS would preserve the logistical advantage of small volume resuscitation and improve survival.An UHS outcome model in rats was used. Exploratory study of the hoaxes spread via WhatsApp in Spain to prevent and/or cure COVID-19

Objective: To review the hoaxes’ characteristics spread through WhatsApp in Spain during COVID-19 lockdown and identify what kind of substances were promoted for consumption or application. Method: A phone number was activated to receive hoaxes via WhatsApp. A total of 2353 messages were collected, and among those 584 different hoaxes were identified and validated, between March 18 and April 18, 2020. From these 584 hoaxes, a sub-sample of 126 was selected, exclusively related to the object of study, and a content analysis table with fourteen registration fields was applied. Self-assembled PAA-based nanoparticles as potential gene and protein delivery systems

A series of nanoparticles is prepared via layer-by-layer assembly of oppositely charged, synthetic biocompatible polyamidoamine polymers as potential carriers. Particle size, surface charge and internal chain mobility are quantified as a function of the polymer type and number of layers. The effect of addition of surfactant is examined to simulate the effects of nanoparticle dissolution. The cyctotoxicity of these particles (in epithelia and murine cell lines) are orders of magnitude lower than polyethyleneimine controls. Guest Effect on Nanopatterned Spin-Crossover Thin Films

International audience; Nanopatterned thin films of the metal–organic framework {Fe(bpac)[Pt(CN)4]} (bpac=bis(4‐pyridyl)acetylene) are elaborated by the combination of a sequential assembly process and a lithographic method. Raman microspectroscopy is used to probe the temperature dependence of the spin state of the iron(II) ions in the films (40–90 nm in thickness), and reveals an incomplete but cooperative spin transition comparable to that of the bulk material. Abstract To demonstrate the direct interfacial position of nucleotide binding sites between subunits of proteins we have synthesized the bifunctional photoaffinity label 2,8-diazidoadenosine 5′-triphosphate (2,8-DiN3ATP). UV irradiation of the F1-ATPase (TF1) from the thermophilic bacterium PS3 in the presence of 2,8-DiN3ATP results in a nucleotide-dependent inactivation of the enzyme and in a nucleotide-dependent formation of α-β crosslinks. The results confirm an interfacial localization of all the nucleotide binding sites on TF1.

Heme Binding Constricts the Conformational Dynamics of the Cytochrome b559′ Heme Binding Cavity

Cytochrome b(559)' is a transmembrane protein formed by homodimerization of the 44-residue PsbF polypeptide and noncovalent binding of a heme cofactor. The PsbF polypeptide can dimerize in the absence and presence of heme. To monitor structural alterations associated with binding of heme to the apo-cytochrome, we analyzed the apo- and holo-cytochrome structure by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Spin labeling of amino acids located close to the heme binding domain of the cytochrome revealed that the structure of the heme binding domain is unconstrained in the absence of heme. Changes in membrane fluidity of porphyrin-doped liposomes have been investigated to assess the kinetics of the fluidization process. Metal complexes of tert-butylphenyl mesosubstituted porphyrin, containing ions of Mg, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu, were used as dopants.
