The Antecedents of Consumers’ Negative Attitudes Toward SMS Advertising: A Theoretical Framework and Empirical Study

2013

Short message service (SMS) advertising refers to the transmission of advertising via mobile phones in the form of text-based messages (Haghirian, Madlberger, and Tanuskova 2005). Recent marketing research indicates that investigations on consumers’ attitudes toward SMS advertising are limited, and empirical examination of antecedents that negatively influence attitudes toward SMS advertising is even scarcer. As a consequence of this lack of knowledge, current practices of mobile advertising might be ineffective. This research examines irritation, privacy concerns, and intrusiveness perception as main factors that provoke a negative attitude toward SMS advertising. Using structural equation…

Detection of respiratory viral infections in neonates treated for suspicion of nosocomial bacterial sepsis: a feasibility study.

2013

There is a lack of knowledge concerning the frequency and significance of respiratory viral infections that occur in the neonatal intensive care unit. In the present study, all neonates with suspected nosocomial bacterial sepsis were screened for a panel of respiratory viruses. Respiratory viral infections were detected in 10% of these cases. This was comparable with the frequency of a blood-culture-proven sepsis.

A case series associated with different kinds of endo-perio lesions

2014

Pulpal and periodontal problems are responsible for more than half of the tooth mortality. There are some articles published in the literature about this issue. Many of them are quite old. There has been also lack of knowledge about the effect of endodontic treatment on the periodontal tissue healing and suitable treatment interval between endodontic and periodontal treatments. In this case report, different kinds of endo-perio lesion were treated with sequential endodontic and periodontal treatment. The follow-up radiographs showed complete healing of the hard and soft tissue lesions. The tooth with endo-perio lesions should be evaluated thoroughly in terms of any cracks and fracture, espe…

Predictors of tooth loss due to periodontal disease in patients following long‐term periodontal maintenance

2015

The pioneering attempt to characterize the response to periodontal treatment of patients undergoing periodontal maintenance (PM) (Wasserman & Hirschfeld 1988) was soon followed by the first studies on periodontal prognosis (McGuire 1991, McGuire & Nunn 1996a,b, McLeod et al. 1998). Two main conclusions were drawn, which remain generally accepted: establishing a periodontal prognosis is the basis of any treatment plan, and actual knowledge of the predictors of tooth loss (TL) is very limited. An extensive review on the subject noted the heterogeneity of the studies and the scarce information that could be drawn from them (Chambrone et al. 2010). Several statistical models analysing the predi…

Amazing IL-9: revealing a new function for an “old” cytokine

2012

Th9 cells are a subset of CD4+ Th cells that produce the pleiotropic cytokine IL-9. IL-9/Th9 can function as both positive and negative regulators of immune response, but the role of IL-9/Th9 in tumor immunity is unknown. We examined the role of IL-9/Th9 in a model of pulmonary melanoma in mice. Lack of IL-9 enhanced tumor growth, while tumor-specific Th9 cell treatment promoted stronger antitumor responses in both prophylactic and therapeutic models. Th9 cells also elicited strong host antitumor CD8+ CTL responses by promoting Ccl20/Ccr6-dependent recruitment of DCs to the tumor tissues. Subsequent tumor antigen delivery to the draining LN resulted in CD8+ T cell priming. In agreement with…

ERRORES DE INTERPRETACIÓN DE LOS VALORES P ENTRE PSICÓLOGOS PROFESIONALES ESPAÑOLES: UN ESTUDIO EXPLORATORIO

2017

Abstract.ERRORS OF INTERPRETATION OF P VALUES AMONG SPANISH PROFESSIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS: AN EXPLORATORY STUDYThis paper analyzes the misinterpretatons of the p-value made by Spanish practitioner psychologists given that lack of knowledge and understanding of p value might affect the professionals’ decisions and jeopardize the quality of psychological interventions. We carried out a survey on 77 practitioner psychologists from Spain (68.8% women, mean age of 41.44 years, SD = 9.42). Our findings are consistent with previous research and suggest that many participants did not know how to correctly interpret p values. More than a third of them believed that p-value indicate the clinical or prac…

Inner peripheries: dealing with peripherality and marginality issues within the European policy framework

2020

Abstract : Inner Peripheries is a complex and often misinterpreted concept, as demonstrated by current scientific evidence. Such complexity derives from the intrinsic peripherality and marginality characteristics of the Inner Peripheries. Despite Inner Peripheries suffer from geographical and socio-economic disparities, their environmental, social and economic potentialities are not fully expressed, and thus can be further strengthened by both the EU Cohesion and Rural Development Policies. However, there is currently a lack of knowledge about the linkages between the Inner Peripheries and both Cohesion and Rural Development Policies, which could limit the effectiveness of planning strategi…

Predicting bullying: maladjustment, social skills and popularity

2012

In order to prevent bullying, research has characterised the adolescents involved in terms of their social skills, maladjustment and popularity. However, there is a lack of knowledge concerning the relationships between these variables and how these relationships predict bullying involvement. Moreover, the literature has focused on pure bullies and victims, despite the fact that bully-victims are known to be the most troubled. The aim of this work is to study the relationships between these variables and their predictive value, focusing on the bully-victim role. The sample (N = 641) is made up of adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years. The results mainly indicate that the level of maladju…

Digital participation in service environments among senior electricity consumers in Finland

2018

Research to date suggests that older adults engage with digital technologies less frequently than young adults. Studies typically focus on chronological age, ignoring the effects of life course factors on the adoption and use of digital technologies. By utilising multiple triangulation, the article investigates the role of age and life course stage in the usage of an electricity company's online services among senior consumers. The data are derived from an internet-based survey study (N = 1366) and six focus group discussions involving Finnish electricity consumers (N = 29). The results suggest that online consumers aged 50 and over utilise electricity company online services more frequentl…

The problems and promises of research into human immunology and autoimmune disease

2012

Translational research in autoimmunity is hampered by a number of hurdles, including a lack of knowledge regarding initiating and pathologically relevant autoantigens, the low frequency of autoreactive pathogenic B and T cells, difficulty in accessing the affected tissue, differences between self-reactive and pathogen-specific lymphocytes, a lack of etiologically relevant preclinical animal models and the heterogeneity of disease presentation. Given the need for biomarkers and new therapeutics, it is imperative that these hurdles be surmounted.
