Multisite field potential recordings and analysis of the impulse propagation pattern in cardiac cells culture

To provide further insights into the impulse propagation between cardiac myocytes, we performed multiparametric studies of excitation spread with cellular resolution in confluent monolayers of cultured cardiomyocytes (CM). Simultaneous paired intracellular recordings of action potentials in two individual CM revealed slight periodic spontaneous advances/delays in the interspike time lag. Multisite field potential recordings performed with microelectrode arrays (MEA) confirmed random and iterative cycle-to-cycle changes in the direction of excitation spread. Biomineralization processes are characterized by controlled deposition of inorganic polymers/minerals mediated by functional groups linked to organic templates. One metazoan taxon, the siliceous sponges, has utilized these principles and even gained the ability to form these polymers/minerals by an enzymatic mechanism using silicateins. Silicateins are the dominant protein species present in the axial canal of the skeletal elements of the siliceous sponges, the spicules, where they form the axial filament. Modelling the inhibitory effect of copper sulfate on the growth of Penicillium expansum and Botrytis cinerea

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the effect of copper sulfate (from 0 to 8 mmol kg−1) on radial growth rate and lag time of two moulds responsible for vine grapes spoilage: Penicillium expansum strain 25·03 and Botrytis cinerea, strains BC1 and BC2. Methods and results: A new model was developed to describe tailing and shoulders in the inhibition curves. Because of tailing, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), was not defined as the concentration at which no growth was observed, but as the concentration at which the lag time was infinite. “Framboisé” spoilage in French ciders: Zymomonas mobilis implication and characterization

Abstract Biodiversity of 17 Zymomonas mobilis strains isolated from French “framboise” ciders from 7 different geographical areas of France was analysed using random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and 6 different strain fingerprints were observed. One of the fingerprints was identical for 10 of the 17 cases. No correlation between geographical origin and strain fingerprint was observed. In parallel, the cider-making process was followed from the orchard to the final product for Z. mobilis presence. Detection of the bacterium only occurred during the fermentation process. Abstract Assemblage is one way to examine complexities in today’s world. In Deleuzian thinking, assemblage refers to both the act of assembling diverse elements and the arrangements of these elements for a specific purpose. Importantly, it is the interaction between elements that allows the assemblage to become more than the sum of its parts.
