“Tuhansien laulujen maa” : maisema ja identiteetti 1980- ja 1990-lukujen suomenkielisessä rocklyriikassa

2017

Kappal…

Geostatistics for Mapping Leaf Area Index over a Cropland Landscape: Efficiency Sampling Assessment

2010

This paper evaluates the performance of spatial methods to estimate leaf area index (LAI) fields from ground-based measurements at high-spatial resolution over a cropland landscape. Three geostatistical model variants of the kriging technique, the ordinary kriging (OK), the collocated cokriging (CKC) and kriging with an external drift (KED) are used. The study focused on the influence of the spatial sampling protocol, auxiliary information, and spatial resolution in the estimates. The main advantage of these models lies in the possibility of considering the spatial dependence of the data and, in the case of the KED and CKC, the auxiliary information for each location used for prediction pur…

Relevance and Role of Contemporary Architecture Preservation—Assessing and Evaluating Architectural Heritage as a Contemporary Landscape: A Study Cas…

2023

Since WWII to the 2000s, numerous masters of contemporary architecture have contributed to the construction of new landscapes with their works; therefore, these places have become part of a changing landscape and of the multifaceted process of landscape generation. Nevertheless, during this fifty-year period, capitalism has led to the destruction of many existing landscapes, and the policies of protection and preservation have often entailed a process of musealization. In 2000, the European Landscape Convention adopted a new common-grounded definition of landscape, integrating a wide set of cultural approaches and disciplinary topics. Starting from the assumption that contemporary architect…

Literature as a representation of changes in urban landscapes after 1945 (on Polish, Czech and Slovak examples)

2018

The paper focuses on changes of urban and cultural landscapes after 1945 under the communist regime in a way that they were presented in Polish, Czech and Slovak literature published after 1989 (when a climate for talking about politically uncomfortable topics has changed). The main subject of the author‟s interest is how surrounding landscape influences people‟s behaviour demonstrated in literary pieces. The destruction caused during the WWII in Polish (former German) towns like Gdańsk, Szczecin or Wrocław and decision of contemporary authorities not to restore anything for many decades forced citizens to live in increasingly decaying surroundings. In Czechoslovakia, due to expulsion of Ge…

2017

The contribution deals with the theme of the dry stone walls’ landscape which characterizes the rural “Koinè” of the Hyblean plateau in South-Eastern Sicily. The essay analyses the main political-economic, social-territorial, constructive and typological features which make the dry walls network the landmark of the Ragusa province. Because of the modification of the economic-cultural context that produced it, the loss of knowledge of the construction techniques and the lack of public resources, the definition of an axiology of the contemporary landscape as premise for the establishment of adequate terms of value for the safeguard of this heritage is required.

A mate to die for? A model of conditional monogyny in cannibalistic spiders.

2012

Monogynous males in various species actively limit themselves to mating with a single female in their lifetime. Whereas previous models have considered monogyny as an obligate mating strategy, here we explore the potential of monogyny to evolve as a context-specific (conditional) behavior. Using a state-dependent dynamic game model based on the biology of the cannibalistic spider Argiope bruennichi, we confirm that conditional monogyny can evolve under broad conditions, including an even sex ratio. We predict that males should make a terminal investment when mating with large, virgin females, especially if population density is low and the encounter occurs late in the season. We encourage e…

Analysing gene flow in heterogeneous landscapes: why and how to use genetic graphs?

2019

International audience; In heterogeneous landscapes, when species occupy discrete habitat patches, ecological connectivity is influenced by populations’ topology. Graph-theoretic methods constitute a relevant tool to reveal this topology and better analyse gene flow. Despite growing interest in genetic graphs, a better understanding of when and how to use them is lacking. To fill this gap, we simulated gene flow between 50 populations in different landscape configurations and constructed genetic graphs using various genetic distances and pruning (link selection) methods. We then compared metrics derived from these graphs to analogous metrics describing the topology and connectivity of the di…

Un Parco nella Sicilia più nascosta

2021
