Mesh complications following prolapse surgery: management and outcome.

2011

Abstract Objective This is a description of complications following prolapse surgery with the use of alloplastic materials, the management and outcome. Study design 54 women have been referred to Mainz, urogynecology referral center due to complications following mesh-augmented prolapse surgery. Results The complaints who lead to the admission are expressed by the new terminology and standardized classification for complications arising directly from the insertion of prostheses and grafts in female pelvic floor surgery [1] . Pain (66.7%), mesh erosion (55.6%) and vaginal discharge (48.1%) were the most frequent complaints. Revision was performed after a median time of 27.2 months post mesh …

Diagnostische Aussagekraft von Sonographie und Computertomographie bei Lebermetastasen

1988

The diagnostic accuracy of sonography and computed tomography for detecting liver metastases was analysed in 526 patients with tumors and the findings were compared with those at laparotomy and at post mortem. The surgical protocols were analysed in respect of the primary tumour, the frequency of metastases and the number, localisation and size of metastases. A comparison of sonography and CT showed a higher sensitivity for CT (57.1%) compared with sonography (52.3%) although specificity was slightly higher for sonography. Liver metastases greater than 15 mm were detected by sonography (80.5%) and CT (92%), with much higher sensitivity. CT also proved superior, since the results depended le…

Recurrent intussusception of small bowel in a young patient due to metastases from cardiac undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma: A first ever case re…

2020

Highlights • Metastatic undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma) is a rare entity in the visceral organs. • We report a case of a metastatic primary cardiac undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma which presented with a recurrent small bowel intussusception in a young man. • Laparotomy by a small midline incision performed on the same day identified an intussusception of a 15-cm section of small intestine caused by a 4-cm intraluminal metastasis from undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma. • Metastasis intussusception in the small intestine is a very rare condition and they are part of differential diagnosis in patient with a history of tumor who present with intussu…

Natural History of Mesenteric Venous Thrombosis: A Large Multicentre Study

2008

Abstract Introduction: Mesenteric venous thrombosis (MVT) is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening disease, accounting for 5–15% of mesenteric ischemic events. Most cases of MVT are either identified at laparotomy or at autopsy, with a mortality rate of approximately 50% in old series. Advances in imaging techniques have facilitated the early diagnosis of MVT and, thus, have contributed to a decrease in mortality in the more recent series. The treatment of MVT involves anticoagulation alone or in combination with surgery. Experts suggest that MVT can safely be managed without surgery if there is no evidence of bowel infarction. However, information on the natural history of MVT and o…

Aszites und vermeintliches akutes Abdomen bei hereditärem Angioödem durch C1-Inhibitor-Mangel

2008

HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS A 35-year-old man, for 8 years known to have hereditary angio-oedema with recurrent cutaneous swellings and occasional attacks of gastrointestinal pain, developed very painful, colic-like upper abdominal symptoms and frequent vomiting. INVESTIGATIONS Routine laboratory tests were normal, except for leucocytosis of 18,200 WBC/microliter. The plasma concentrations of C1-esterase inhibitor (5.6 mg/dl) and of complement factor C4 (10.0 mg/dl) were reduced. Computed tomography revealed about 500 ml free fluid, a perihepatic effusion and definite oedematous thickening of the ileal wall. TREATMENT AND COURSE During conservative treatment with infusions and no food by …

8 A multicentric randomized trial to evaluate the role of uterine manipulator on laparoscopic/robotic hysterectomy for the treatment of low-risk endo…

2020

Background The role of the intrauterine manipulator in minimally invasive hysterectomy for endometrial cancer has been widely debated in terms of impact on the oncological outcomes. To date, definitive conclusions on the possible advantages and oncological safety of its use in endometrial cancer staging are still awaited. Objectives This randomized trial aimed to assess the role of the uterine manipulator in terms of oncological and perioperative outcomes in patients undergoing minimally invasive (laparoscopic/robotic) staging for presumed low-risk endometrial cancer. Study Design Enrolled patients were randomly allocated in two groups according to the use (Group A) or no use (Group B) of t…

Robotic Hysterectomy in Severely Obese Patients With Endometrial Cancer: A Multicenter Study

2015

Abstract Study Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the surgical and oncologic outcomes of robotic hysterectomy with or without or less pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomy in severely obese patients (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 40 kg/m 2 ) with endometrial cancer. Material and Methods Between August 2010 and November 2014, patients with histologically confirmed endometrial cancer and BMI ≥40 kg/m 2 were deemed eligible for the study and underwent RH with or without pelvic and aortic lymphadenectomy. Results Seventy patients were divided into 3 groups according to their BMI: group A, BMI between 40 and 45 kg/m 2 (50 patients); group B, BMI between 45 and 50 kg/m 2 (10 patients); and gro…

Transperitoneal versus extraperitoneal laparoscopic aortic lymph nodal staging for locally advanced cervical cancer: A systematic review and meta-ana…

2021

Abstract Cervical cancer is the fourth most common neoplasm in women. In locally advanced cervical cancers, the international guidelines recommend nodal aortic assessment. Two techniques have been described to perform laparoscopic aortic lymphadenectomy: transperitoneal laparoscopic lymphadenectomy (TLL) and extraperitoneal laparoscopic lymphadenectomy (ELL). This meta-analysis aims to compare the surgical outcomes of TLL and ELL for staging purposes. The systematic review was carried out in agreement with the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses statement (PRISMA). Two hundred and twenty studies were analyzed, and 19 studies were included in the review (7 for …

Vergleich der lokalen Effektivität und des Metastasierungsverhaltens nach Resektion, Kryotherapie und Lasertherapie an einem colorectalen Tumormodell…

2003

A rat colon cancer cell line (CC531) was implanted into the livers of 85 WAG rats and in animals surviving the implantation the liver tumour was subsequently treated with sham laparotomy (n = 15), resection (n = 20), cryotherapy (n = 19) or laser therapy (n = 20). Local recurrence or persistence of the tumour in animals surviving the procedure was observed in 15 of 15 following sham laparotomy, in 0 of 15 following resection, in 3 of 17 following cryotherapy and in 10 of 14 following laser therapy. However, peritoneal disease and lung metastases were more frequent and extensive following resection as compared to cryotherapy or laser therapy.
