Physics beyond colliders at CERN: beyond the Standard Model working group report
2019
The Physics Beyond Colliders initiative is an exploratory study aimed at exploiting the full scientific potential of the CERN's accelerator complex and scientific infrastructures through projects complementary to the LHC and other possible future colliders. These projects will target fundamental physics questions in modern particle physics. This document presents the status of the proposals presented in the framework of the Beyond Standard Model physics working group, and explore their physics reach and the impact that CERN could have in the next 10–20 years on the international landscape.
Searching for long-lived particles beyond the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider
2020
Particles beyond the Standard Model (SM) can generically have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at the weak scale. When produced at experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, these longlived particles (LLPs) can decay far from the interaction vertex of the primary proton–proton collision. Such LLP signatures are distinct from those of promptly decaying particles that are targeted by the majority of searches for new physics at the LHC, often requiring customized techniques to identify, for example, significantly displaced decay vertices, tracks with atypical properties, and short track segments. Given their non-standard nature, a comprehensive overview of LLP…
A catalog of HLA type, HLA expression, and neo-epitope candidates in human cancer cell lines
2014
Cancer cell lines are a tremendous resource for cancer biology and therapy development. These multipurpose tools are commonly used to examine the genetic origin of cancers, to identify potential novel tumor targets, such as tumor antigens for vaccine devel-opment, and utilized to screen potential therapies in preclinical studies. Mutations, gene expression, and drug sensitivity have been determined for many cell lines using next-generation sequencing (NGS). However, the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) type and HLA expression of tumor cell lines, characterizations necessary for the development of cancer vaccines, have remained largely incomplete and, such information, when available, has been …

Measurement of the azimuthal ordering of charged hadrons with the ATLAS detector
2012
This paper presents a study of the possible ordering of charged hadrons in the azimuthal angle relative to the beam axis in high-energy proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). A spectral analysis of correlations between longitudinal and transverse components of the momentum of the charged hadrons, driven by the search for phenomena related to the structure of the QCD field, is performed. Data were recorded with the ATLAS detector at center-of-mass energies of √s=900 GeV and √s=7 TeV. The correlations measured in a kinematic region dominated by low-pT particles are not well described by conventional models of hadron production. The measured spectra show features consis…
Measurement of $\Delta^{++}$(1232) production in hadronic Z decays
1995
A measurement of the \Delta^{++}(1232) inclusive production in hadronic decays of the Z at LEP is presented, based on 1.3 million hadronic events collected~ by the DELPHI~ detector in the 1994 LEP running~ period. The DELPHI ring imaging Cherenkov counters are used for identifying hadrons. The average \Delta^{++}(1232) multiplicity per hadronic event is 0.079 \pm 0.015 which is more than a factor of two below the JETSET, HERWIG and UCLA model predictions. It agrees with a recently proposed universal mass dependence of particle production rates in e^{+}e^- annihilations.
Measurement of hard double-parton interactions inW(???) + 2-jet events at $\sqrt{s}\,=7$ TeV with the ATLAS detector
2013
The production of W bosons in association with two jets in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=7 TeV has been analysed for the presence of double-parton interactions using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb[superscript −1], collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The fraction of events arising from double-parton interactions, f[superscript (D) over subscript DP], has been measured through the p[subscript T] balance between the two jets and amounts to f[superscript (D) over subscript DP] = 0.08 ± 0.01 (stat.) ± 0.02 (sys.) for jets with transverse momentum p[subscript T] > 20 GeV and rapidity |y| < 2.8. This corresponds to a …
Ultrastructure of vascular neoplasms
1982
Summary The vascular tumors are morphologically recognized by their ability to configurate complete or atypical angiomatous structures. Based on our personal experience of 42 cases of benign and malignant angiomatous tumors, we discussed several aspects of their histogenesis and its morphology when studied with transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Therefore, a survey of the normal histology was developed based not only on normal adult histological structures but also on reparative tissues, as in chronic inflammatory reactions of the gingival mucosa, regenerative tissue of wounds and in chronic osteomyelitis. Supported by morphological arguments, we postulate the existence of sever…
THE OCCURRENCE OF SENECIO VULGARIS L. VAR. VULGARIS AND S. × HELWINGII BEGER EX HEGI (S. VULGARIS × S. VERNALIS WALDST. ET KIT.) IN ISRAEL
1994
Common Groundsel (Senecio vulgarisL. var.vulgaris(2n = 40)) is widespread in the northern hemisphere. In Israel, judging from a herbarium survey, records taken from the Israel Plant Information Center (ROTEM), and field studies, it has a restricted and widely disjunct pattern of geographical distribution, and, thus, is another example of the comparatively large group of weeds in Israel which are extremely stenochorous. The remarkable gaps in its distribution, from the Upper Golan to Mt. Carmel and to the Jerusalem area, are considered primarily to be the result of paleoclimatic changes, whereas its occurrence outside these centers of distribution is probably related to long-distance dispers…
Clinical strategies for the management of intestinal obstruction and pseudo-obstruction. A Delphi Consensus study of SICUT (Società Italiana di Chiru…
2016
Intestinal obstructions/pseudo-obstruction of the small/large bowel are frequent conditions but their management could be challenging. Moreover, a general agreement in this field is currently lacking, thus SICUT Society designed a consensus study aimed to define their optimal workout. The Delphi methodology was used to reach consensus among 47 Italian surgical experts in two study rounds. Consensus was defined as an agreement of 75.0% or greater. Four main topic areas included nosology, diagnosis, management and treatment.A bowel obstruction was defined as an obstacle to the progression of intestinal contents and fluids generally beginning with a sudden onset. The panel identified four major…
