2014
Two protohistoric Liburnian graves are the most ancient structures discovered in this year’s campaign which was essentially focused on the sector IV, south of the abbey church of Saint Peter in Osor. This area is particularly rich in medieval built tombs of the mo-nastic cemetery that developed next to the church and a mausoleum. The precise datation of this funeral building, which was being used in the 10th century, is still to be determined, but it has been confirmed that its construction preceded the foundation of the monastery, for at least few decades. A great many monks have chosen the mausoleum as their burial site. In the excavations of the first bay of the basilica other tombs were…
After African trades: changing in Cignana landscape between Late Antiquity and Medieval age
2017
International audience; In many parts of Sicily, the Late Antiquity represents a period of strong transformation in settlement patterns and landscapes. These changes occur also on an area 20 km SE from Agrigento, on the southern coast of the island: this is the territory around the imperial villa of Cignana (2nd-3th century AD), where the University of Palermo carried out some surveys from 2007. During the surveys more than 30 new topographic units of Late Antiquity were detected: some of them are big and accurately dated, others are small and difficult to interpret. Usually, they have located in easily accessible places, close to springs and the road system. Principally African pottery all…
2011
Two sites in Champagne-Ardennes are illustrative of the discontinuity of the vestiges of the phases of occupation during Late Antiquity. At Saint-Germain-la-Ville (Marne), a large rural building seems at first view to have been unoccupied between the 3rd and 6th centuries although the organisation of Merovingian buildings partly imitated that of the Early Empire. Despite the absence of relics that can be associated with certainty, a continuous presence seems to have been highly likely during the 4th and 5th centuries. At Semoine (Aube), the bulk of the objects from the 7th and 8th centuries found on the site were produced during Late Antiquity, while a single storeroom dates from that perio…

Conclusion.
Introduction.
C. Giuffrida Manmana, Alla corte dell’imperatore.
2010
Review of the monograph by C. Giuffrida, who entrusts this study with a personal interpretation of some relevant aspects that characterised the late antique world. The volume is divided into four parts: the first on the creation of a new ruling class; the second on the strategy to strengthen imperial power; the third on Theodosius I and the difficult control of the West; the fourth on the new behavioural paradigms at the court of the Theodosians and in particular on the political role of the Augustae.
