Teaching audio‑visual translation at the “French Philology level 0” course: methods, contents, clues
In the face of a sensible diminution of the number of high‑school graduates able to communicate in French well enough to follow the “classical” French Philology course, many Polish universities offer their students the possibility of studying “French Philology level 0”. One of the key skills developed by this course is translation, including basic audio‑visual translation competences. The paper shows some examples of translator training clues that have been worked out at the Opole University.
Imagine there’s no borders.
Tourism and reception in the ancient world
2010
If we broaden the notion of ‘tourism’ to mean ‘integrated relational tourism’, based on the interpersonal relationships of friendship between guest and host, and serving to strengthen the bonds between different countries and cultural traditions and between man and territorial, historical, artistic and oenological-gastronomic patrimony, we realize that this formula is only apparently ultramodern, in that it is rooted in remote times. An outstanding example is what we are told in the Homeric poem, the Odyssey, regarding that exceptional ‘tourist’ named Ulysses who, sailing from one coast to another, is shipwrecked, escaping from the furious sea, on the island of the Pheacians where the touri…
Evidence of Single State Dominance in the Two-Neutrino Double-β Decay of ^{82}Se with CUPID-0.
2019
We report on the measurement of the two-neutrino double-β decay of ^{82}Se performed for the first time with cryogenic calorimeters, in the framework of the CUPID-0 experiment. With an exposure of 9.95 kg yr of Zn^{82}Se, we determine the two-neutrino double-β decay half-life of ^{82}Se with an unprecedented precision level, T_{1/2}^{2ν}=[8.60±0.03(stat) _{-0.13}^{+0.19}(syst)]×10^{19} yr. The very high signal-to-background ratio, along with the detailed reconstruction of the background sources allowed us to identify the single state dominance as the underlying mechanism of such a process, demonstrating that the higher state dominance hypothesis is disfavored at the level of 5.5σ.
Se discuten la etiopatogenia, diagnóstico diferencial y tratamiento Worldwide, the use of cocaine has an increased over the years, various secondary effects have been described. Here we present a 48 years old female with a 2-month evolution bucconasal ulcer in the hard palate induced by cocaine usage accompanied by swallow and phonation dysfunctions. Ethiopathogenesis, di…
Physical Performance During the Menopausal Transition and the Role of Physical Activity
2020
Abstract Background To examine longitudinal changes in physical performance during the menopausal transition and the role of physical activity (PA) in these changes. Methods Based on follicle-stimulating hormone levels and bleeding diaries, women (47–55 years) were classified as early (n = 89) and late perimenopausal (n = 143) and followed prospectively until postmenopausal status, with mean duration of 17.5 and 13.8 months, respectively. Physical performance was measured by handgrip force, knee extension torque, vertical jumping height, maximal walking speed, and 6-minute walking distance. Physical activity was self-reported and categorized as inactive, low, medium, and high. Longitudinal …
Perimenopausal women show modulation of excitatory and inhibitory neuromuscular mechanisms.
2021
Background Menopausal transition exposes women to an early decline in muscle force and motor function. Changes in muscle quality and function, especially in lower limbs, are crucial, as they expose individuals to increased risk of falls. To elucidate some of the related neuromuscular mechanisms, we investigated cortical inhibition and peripheral muscle twitch force potentiation in women during the early and late stages of perimenopause. Methods Participants were 63 women aged 48–55 years categorized as early (EP, n = 25) or late (LP, n = 38) perimenopausal according to serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels and menstrual diaries. EP women had an irregular menstrual cycle and FSH 2…
Lo sguardo in seconda persona. Verecundia in Seneca, ad Lucilium 11
2021
Where does verecundia stand in the ancient Rome? As Robert Kaster said, it stands close to the pudor, working in face-to-face relations “between respect and shame”. How the verecundia concept took part as a moral feeling is clearly explained in Seneca’s Letter 11 to Lucilius. In this text the philosopher offers a complex, concise portrait of verecundia, allowing to see that it is, to all intents and purposes, a social emotion, as well as an useful behavior to explain the birth of a moral gaze in “second person”.
