Ethics and economics, friends or foes? An educational debate

2004

This paper reviews an ongoing debate about moral standards for vocational education in German speaking countries. At the centre of the controversy is the question of universalistic versus domain‐specific moral orientations, namely the question of whether business people ought to develop different moral points of view in different situations (such as ‘private’ versus ‘professional’). Of pivotal importance in this context is also a prominent ethical approach (by Karl Homann, a philosopher in the tradition of liberal economists) which serves as a foundation for those who advocate domain specificity and which is strongly criticized by their counterparts. This approach is also presented, since t…

Bone and cartilage characteristics in postmenopausal women with mild knee radiographic osteoarthritis and those without radiographic osteoarthritis

2015

Objectives: To evaluate the association between radiographically-assessed knee osteoarthritis and femoral neck bone characteristics in women with mild knee radiographic osteoarthritis and those without radiographic osteoarthritis. Methods: Ninety postmenopausal women (mean age [SD], 58 [4] years; height, 163 [6] cm; weight, 71 [11] kg) participated in this cross-sectional study. The severity of radiographic knee osteoarthritis was defined using Kellgren-Lawrence grades 0=normal (n=12), 1=doubtful (n=25) or 2=minimal (n=53). Femoral neck bone mineral content (BMC), section modulus (Z), and cross-sectional area (CSA) were measured with DXA. The biochemical composition of ipsilateral knee cart…

Traduzione e ideologia nella svolta culturale dei Translation Studies. Una rassegna

2012

Many recent studies in the translation field focused their interest on the influence of ideology in translation, stressing the appropriative aspect of the translation act. As pointed out by some studies, the whole translation process reveals the translator’s ideology: every translator’s choice is a voluntary selection act that reveals the context surrounding him, as well as his own culture and ideology. Providing a general overview on the relationship between translation and ideology, this study offers a closer view (into the wide field covered by Translation Studies and proposes a research report of the presence of ideology in the translation debate. Moving from the positions of the target…

VOIKO ETIIKKAA OPETTAA? Etiikan opetettavuuden tarkastelua Lawrence Kohlbergin, D. Z. Phillipsin ja Martha C.
