Evolution of strategy narration and leadership work in the digital era

2019

This paper examines the evolution of strategy narration, contributing to ongoing discussions in this field. Our empirical data, gathered from a large Finnish co-operative bank, cover three decades. According to our findings, digitalisation has brought about an epoch change in strategy narration, as top management has strongly adopted digital media in their leadership work, which has replaced ‘traditional’ face-to-face strategy meetings and public presentations by gatherings on digital platforms, including webcasting, intranet and Skype. This has brought about a leadership vacuum, and left organisational members long for their superiors to ‘exercise’ some traditional leadership practices, su…

Posidonia oceanica as a Historical Monitor Device of Lead Concentration in Marine Environment

2005

We show that Posidonia oceanica is able to reliably monitor the variability of environmental lead (Pb). We analyze lead concentration measured in the scales and rhizomes of Posidonia oceanica collected in seven sites along the coasts of the Sicily island and subsequently fractioned them according to a lepidochronological analysis. We measure lead concentration in Posidonia oceanica tissues by using the flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry technique. We compare the measured lead concentration with the estimated lead emission in air due to the gasoline sold and used for combustion in car engines in Sicily. By computation of the Pearson cross-correlation coefficient, we show that lead con…

ETHICAL LEADERSHIP: STUDENT PERCEPTIONS OF EXERCISING ETHICAL INFLUENCE IN ORGANIZATION

2014

Today’s rapidly changing economic and social environment requires reconsideration of leadership issues, a special attention paying to ethical issues that are an integral part of socially responsible business. There are numerous studies on the subject matter of ethical leadership but until now the matter of developing business students’ ethical leadership competences has been hardly touched. This is one of the gaps to be filled if we want to speak about the Europe of knowledge at all. The purpose of the present study is twofold: to summarize the previous research in the field of ethical leadership and to research Latvian business students’ perception of ethical leadership. Hence the tasks of…

Spanish validation of the Servant Leadership Short Scale for young adults and adolescents / Validación de la Escala de Liderazgo de Servicio Versión …

2017

AbstractThe aim of the current study was to validate a shortened Spanish version of the Servant Leadership Profile (SLP). In Study 1, a number of experts evaluated and reduced the original scale to 14 items and named the revised version the Servant Leadership Short Scale (SLSS). An exploratory factor analysis conducted with a sample of 1,001 students revealed two possible structure solutions, a one-factor solution and a two-correlated factor solution. Study 2 used a different sample of 456 students to examine the explored structures using confirmatory factor analysis. A one-factor solution was proposed (χ2/df = 3.4, CFI = .91, TLI = .90, RMSEA = .07, SRMR = .06). Finally, in Study 3, servan…

Proces selekcji kandydatów partii politycznych w wyborach Prezydenta RP – motywacje, dylematy, strategie

2022

Porusz…

The Scope of Opportunities for Religious Peacebuilders

2016

Steen-Johnsen applies Brewer et al.’s understanding of scope of opportunities as access to strategic social spaces, when assessing what religious peacebuilders can do in various political contexts. She outlines how Ethiopian religious leaders are only able to engage in peacebuilding activities which are acceptable to the regime, such as proffering a coexistence discourse. The religious leaders cannot, however, launch ideas which can be understood as challenging the political strategies of the EPRDF regime. Steen-Johnsen suggests that this renders the contribution of religious actors to peace much weaker in this type of political context as they fail to address important political contentiou…

A probabilistic rainfall model to estimate the leading-edge lifetime of wind turbine blade coating system

2021

Rain-induced leading-edge erosion of wind turbine blades is associated with high repair and maintenance costs. For efficient operation and maintenance, erosion models are required that provide estimates of blade coating lifetime at a real scale. In this study, a statistical rainfall model is established that describes probabilistic distributions of rain parameters that are critical for site-specific leading-edge erosion assessment. A new droplet size distribution (DSD) is determined based on two years’ onshore rainfall data of an inland site in the Netherlands and the obtained DSD is compared with those from the literature. Joint probability distribution functions of rain intensities and dr…

Directional motion: An empirically based model of development in educational institutions

2018

Although the quantity of literature on organizational sustainability in the realm of education represents a well-developed research area, the literature in this field does not sufficiently emphasize the notion of directional motion as important to institutional change. The aim of this work is the attempt to propose an empirically based model of ‘directional motion’ that is based on the intrinsically motivating process of experiencing movement. The study draws upon empirical material from six different educational institutions. The model systematically maps representations of the various stakeholders in terms of experienced motion in the participating institutions. The main elements in the …

Process-oriented knowledge system for health professionals as a tool for transition to hospital process orientation

2016

AbstractHospitals face increasing pressure to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and guarantee a quality of services. This is perhaps the main reason why hospital process orientation (HPO) – a view on a hospital being a group of processes organized around patients with similar needs is a growing field of interest among hospital managers and researchers. The theoretical research of the content of hospital activities was performed in order to determine the main distinct characteristics in hospital organization that determine the specifics for a process-oriented knowledge system. A conceptual proposal of a technological tool was elaborated taking into account the limited control of hospital man…

Competitive reactions to market entry

2004

Grocery retailing markets are becoming more open and international. Finland is an example of a previously closed and restricted market which has recently opened its borders to foreign food products as well as food retailers. This paper describes the competitive dynamics and actions of the domestic retailers that took place when the first foreign grocery retailer entered the market. The paper concludes that the main competitive moves were related to the price of food products and to changes in product ranges. The domestic retailers imitated the concept of the entrant and added new low‐priced own brands into their product mixes. The roles of the market actors were reversed during the entry pr…
