Transfusion‐transmitted malaria of plasmodium malariae in palermo, sicily

2021

Transfusion-transmitted malaria (TTM) is a rare occurrence with serious consequences for the recipient. In non-endemic areas, the incidence of transmission of malaria by transfusion is very low. We report a clinical case of transfusion-transmitted malaria due to Plasmodium malariae, which happened in a patient with acute hemorrhagic gastropathy. Case presentation: In April 2019, a 70-year-old Italian man with recurrent spiking fever for four days was diagnosed with a P. malariae infection, as confirmed using microscopy and real-time PCR. The patient had never been abroad, but about two months before, he had received a red blood cell transfusion for anemia. Regarding the donor, we revealed t…

Constructing the Audit Risk Assessment by the Audit Team Leader When Planning: Using Fuzzy Theory

2021

The aim of this study is to construct the assessment of the expected audit risk by the audit team leader (ATL) during the planification phase of the audit. The ATL plays an important role within the audit, and even more so regarding small and medium-sized (SME) audit firms. The audit risk assessment is critical as relying more (less) on internal controls implemented by the client leads to performing less (more) substantive audit procedures. This is determined by the ATL based on their professional judgement and previous experience. The use of fuzzy theory has powerful potential into the audit arena, as the audit risk assessment (outcome) is critically related to the auditors’ judgement and …

Valdas Adamkus un Vaira Vīķe –Freiberga: rietumu politiskā līderība postkomunistiskā Lietuvā un Latvijā

2016

State and Politics in Religious Peacebuilding in Kenya, Zanzibar and Rwanda

2016

In this chapter, Steen-Johnsen argues that the question how do the political strategies of the state to regulate to the civil sphere and the enactment of these strategies influence the scope of opportunity for religious actors to build peace is relevant in contexts beyond Ethiopia. Steen-Johnsen presents three different African contexts: Kenya, Zanzibar and Rwanda, where political strategies to regulate the civil and religious spheres exist in different forms. Steen-Johnsen outlines how state authorities in these contexts, through different means, have launched political strategies to curb, or to some extent control, conflicts with religious dimensions. This, she argues, prompts the questio…

Theory on State and Politics in Religious Peacebuilding

2016

In this chapter, Steen-Johnsen offers an overview over theoretical perspectives which allow us to consider how the political strategies of a state to regulate civil society influence the opportunities of religious peacebuilders. Drawing upon theories of state–civil interactions, she suggests that religious actors engaged in peacebuilding can be considered as being affected by political strategies aiming at regulating the civil sphere. Steen-Johnsen argues that the state and civil spheres are interlinked and mutually influential but warns against viewing actors in the civil sphere as dictated by the political strategies of a state authority. Religious actors should rather should rather be co…

Perception of Political Leadership in Local Governments in Latvia

2018

Theme of the paper is political leadership in local governments in Latvia. The work uses secondary data analysis and case studies. The aim of the study is to find out what kind of role does the chairperson of the municipality have as a political leader and what kinds of factors are influencing him/her. The results revealed that formally the chairperson of the municipality has no decisive influence on the municipality and that both types of factors (internal and external) interact with each other limiting the political leader’s (chairperson’s of a municipality) freedom of action.

Evolution of strategy narration and leadership work in the digital era

2019

This paper examines the evolution of strategy narration, contributing to ongoing discussions in this field. Our empirical data, gathered from a large Finnish co-operative bank, cover three decades. According to our findings, digitalisation has brought about an epoch change in strategy narration, as top management has strongly adopted digital media in their leadership work, which has replaced ‘traditional’ face-to-face strategy meetings and public presentations by gatherings on digital platforms, including webcasting, intranet and Skype. This has brought about a leadership vacuum, and left organisational members long for their superiors to ‘exercise’ some traditional leadership practices, su…
