Gellan gum-based delivery systems of therapeutic agents and cells.
2020
The purpose of this review is to make a summary of high quality research trends using gellan gum (GG) as a polymeric constituent for the design of innovative drug delivery systems and devices for biomedical applications, such as cell therapy and regenerative medicine. The use of gellan gum is described both in its native form and as chemically functionalized derivatives or physically mixed with natural or synthetic materials. Starting from a systematic study of recent research works, the main properties of the native polysaccharide have been highlighted and therefore some improvements have been focused thanks to the design of chemically functionalized derivatives and the use of composite ma…
Gaining deeper insight into aroma perception: An integrative study of the oral processing of breads with different structures
2017
WOS:000394071900015; International audience; The objective of this study was to investigate for the first time the influence of bread structure, volatile compounds, and oral processing on aroma perception. 3 types of French baguette were created using the same raw ingredients but different bread-making processes; they consequently varied in their crumb and crust structures. We characterized the initial volatile profiles of two bread structural subtypes-namely bread crumb and bread crumb with crust-using proton transfer reaction-mass spectrometry (PTR-MS) headspace analysis. Three types of bread were characterized by thirty-nine ion fragments from m/z 45 to 139. We then conducted a study in …
(2'-5')Oligoadenylate and intracellular immunity against retrovirus infection.
1992
1. 1. The double-stranded RNA-dependent 2′,5′-oligoadenylate (2–5A) synthetase/ribonuclease L (RNase L) system plays an essential role in the establishment of the antiviral state of a cell exposed to virus infection. 2. 2. Until recently, the application of 2–5A derivatives to reinforce this system seemed to be limited mainly due to the low specificity of RNase L for viral RNA. 3. 3. Two new strategies have been developed which yield a selective antiviral effect of 2–5As at least against human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) infection: (i) an “intracellular immunization” appproach using 2-5A synthetase cDNA linked to HIV trans -acting response element (TAR) and (ii) inhibition of retrovira…
Excision repair cross-complementation group 1 protein overexpression as a predictor of poor survival for high-grade serous ovarian adenocarcinoma.
2010
Abstract Objective The excision repair cross-complementation group 1 (ERCC1) expression is a predictor of survival after surgical treatment for several malignancies. Its overexpression has been reported as a marker of platinum resistance in lung cancer. However, the relevance of ERCC1 expression in ovarian cancer (OC) is the subject of controversy, both as a predictive parameter for platinum resistance and because of its association with poor prognosis. Therefore, we performed a retrospective study investigating ERCC1 expression and its correlation with patients' survival in OC. Methods We analyzed the ERCC1 protein expression using four different ERCC1 antibodies (clone 8F1) with different…
Correction:Cancer risks by gene, age, and gender in 6350 carriers of pathogenic mismatch repair variants: findings from the Prospective Lynch Syndrom…
2020
Lynch syndrome (LS) results from pathogenic variants in the mismatch repair (MMR) genes and is the most common hereditary cancer syndrome, affecting an estimated 1 in 300 individuals. Pathogenic variants in each of the MMR genes path_MLH1, path_MSH2, path_MSH6, and path_PMS2 result in different risks for cancers in organs including the colorectum, endometrium, ovaries, stomach, small bowel, bile duct, pancreas, and upper urinary tract. Accurate estimates of these risks are essential for planning appropriate approaches to the prevention or early diagnosis of cancers but the robustness of previous studies has been limited by factors including retrospective design,1,2 lack of validation in ind…
PMS2: a potential prognostic protein marker in oral squamous cell carcinoma
2020
Background An increase in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cases was observed despite the reduction in exposure to classic risk factors. Although the exact cause of this trend remains unknown, epigenetic factors could be contributing to an increased occurrence of these tumors. This study aims to assess the influence of PMS2 protein immunoexpression on the prognosis of patients with OSCC. Material and Methods This study comprised 76 cases of OSCC treated between 2011 and 2016. Immunohistochemical staining for PMS2 was performed. For evaluation, 10 fields per histological section were photographed at a 400x magnification and positively-stained cells were counted with Image J. Mann-Whitney …
Long-Term Outcomes with Ibrutinib Versus the Prior Regimen: A Pooled Analysis in Relapsed/Refractory (R/R) Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) with up to 7.5 …
2019
Introduction In MCL, progression-free survival (PFS) generally declines with each successive line of chemoimmunotherapy (CIT). We have previously published that with ibrutinib, a first-in-class oral inhibitor of Bruton's tyrosine kinase and a standard of care treatment (tx) for R/R MCL, median PFS exceeded 2 years (yrs) when used at first relapse (Rule S, et al. Haematologica. 2018;104:e211-e214). Here we present an updated pooled analysis with 15 months (mos) of additional follow-up, and for the first time, a comparison of outcomes with ibrutinib versus the prior regimen. Methods Patients (pts) enrolled in SPARK (MCL2001; NCT01599949), RAY (MCL3001; NCT01646021), and PCYC-1104 (NCT01236391…
La capitalización de los arrendamientos operativos: Análisis del impacto en las empresas del IBEX 35
2018
Purpose: This paper analyzes the consequences of the change in the accounting rules about operating leases in the companies and users of financial information. Design/methodology: We use the constructive capitalization method to estimate the liabilities and leased assets and perform an ex ante analysis of the regulatory impact in the IBEX 35 non-financial companies. Non-parametric tests are employed to examine the effect on certain ratios, and through a multivariate regression we investigate the business characteristics that explain the variation of EBITDA. Findings: The ratios under study are significantly affected by the capitalization of operating leases. The explanatory analysis shows t…
Preparation of pH sensitive poly(vinilydenefluoride) porous membranes by grafting of acrylic acid assisted by supercritical carbon dioxide
2012
Free radical grafting of acrylic acid (AA) on poly(vinilydenefluoride) (PVDF) porous membranes was studied at 65°C using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2) as a solvent and delivery agent. The process was initiated by the thermal decomposition of benzoylperoxide (BPO). Spectroscopic analyses confirmed the presence of poly(AA) chains linked to treated membranes. The mass fraction of grafted AA increased with grafting time and BPO concentration while it decreased when the density of the fluid phase was enhanced. A not-monotonic trend was obtained when the effect of the initial AA concentration was studied. The grafting process was accompanied by a reduction of the crystallinity of the PVDF…
Quantitative structure-property relationships approach of aroma compounds behaviour in polysaccharide gels
2010
International audience; Pectin and carrageenan are common used thickeners in fat free foods. The aim of this work was to study separately and to compare their respective effects on the aroma release, in order to investigate the nature of involved interactions. In this way, we studied the influence of the chemical structure of 13 aroma compounds on retention/release equilibrium between vapour phase and gels using QSPR tools. Six descriptors are involved in the best obtained QSPR equations, and three of them appeared to play a critical role in the behaviour of aroma compound. Our results put forward the role of polar effects on the retention of odorant molecules in both iota-carrageenan and p…
