Analysis of immunosuppressive factors produced by tumorspheres in NSCLC: Prognostic value of galectin-3 in adenocarcinoma

Abstract Background Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are targets poorly recognized by the immune surveillance system given that they induce an immunosuppressive microenvironment. The aim of this work is to study the interactions between CSCs and the immune microenvironment in NSCLC. Methods Tumor cells from 8 resected NSCLC patients and 12 cell lines were established as tumorspheres enriched in CSCs and as monolayers. The gene expression of IL-4, IL-10, IL6, IL8 and LGALS-3 was analyzed by RTqPCR. Background: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a proliferative disease of histiocyte-like cells that generally affects children; LCH onset is rare in adults; immunohistochemistry is essential to obtain the correct diagnosis, and treatment protocols are controversial. Objective: To describe two new cases of adult onset oral LCH. Expression of HIP/PAP mRNA in Human Hepatoma Cell Lines

The present study attempts to shed more light on the role of hepatocarcinoma-intestine-pancreas/pancreatic associated protein (HIP/PAP) in hepatoma cells. We initially examined, by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), the HIP/PAP transcripts present in human hepatoma cell lines of different origins and with different grades of differentiation and genetic profiles. We also used DNA sequencing analysis to investigate the structure of the HIP/PAP gene. MMP-13 stimulates osteoclast differentiation and activation in tumour breast bone metastases

INTRODUCTION: The increased bone degradation in osteolytic metastases depends on stimulation of mature osteoclasts and on continuous differentiation of new pre-osteoclasts. Metalloproteinases (MMP)-13 is expressed in a broad range of primary malignant tumours and it is emerging as a novel biomarker. Recent data suggest a direct role of MMP-13 in dissolving bone matrix complementing the activity of MMP-9 and other enzymes. The human chromophobe cell renal carcinoma: its probable relation to intercalated cells of the collecting duct.

In the present study we have examined ten cases of the chromophobe type renal cell carcinoma. We report on a facile and rapid computerized in-vitro assay for the quantification of leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells under static conditions using bovine polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) or human leukaemic Mono Mac 6 cells (MM6) and bovine aorta endothelial cells (BAEC).
