Anaemia in advanced chronic fasciolosis

Abstract The association between fasciolosis-induced anaemia and related factors has been quantified in a rodent model. Haematological parameters were analysed in Wistar rats at 20 and 60 weeks post-infection (p.i.). Pigment stones and bile specimens were collected. Serum IgG1, IgG2a and IgE were determined in rat serum samples. Cytokine levels have been correlated with haematological parameters. The screening for gastrointestinal bleeding was carried out. Bacteriological bile cultures revealed viable bacteria in 53.8% of specimens at 60 weeks p.i. Abstract: The chapter begins by describing the lees and autolysis phenomena: mechanism and released products. It then reviews the influence of ageing ‘ sur lies ’ on the organoleptic and hygienic properties and the stability of white, red and sparkling wines. The chapter includes a description of different yeast preparations mimicking the lees and their use in winemaking.
Yeast autolysis in sparkling wine – a review

Sparkling wine produced by the traditional methode champenoise requires a second in-bottle alcoholic fermentation of a base wine, leading to the sparkling wine. This second fermentation is followed by prolonged ageing in contact with yeast cells (lees). The autolysis of yeast occurs during the ageing of sparkling wines. During this process, the yeast releases different compounds that modify the organoleptic properties of the wine. Expression of a glucocorticoid receptor (DlGR1) in several tissues of the teleost fish Dicentrarchus labrax

Since glucocorticoids have a role in maintaining the homeostatic status in fish, in the present paper mRNA expression (in situ hybridization) and tissue immunohistochemical localization of a glucocorticoid receptor (DlGR1) in several Dicentrarchus labrax organs are reported. Riboprobe and specific antibodies were prepared by using the DlGR1 that has been previously cloned and sequenced from peritoneal cavity leukocytes. Both mRNA and receptor were identified in head kidney, spleen, gills, intestine, heart and liver tissues. The functional roles of DlGR1 localization are discussed.

Electronic Design for a Bleeding Detector to be Used in Intraoperative Radiotherapy Applications

An electronic design for a bleeding detector used with mobile linac during intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) is presented. It consists on a readout circuit based on a De Sauty Bridge and a wireless power supply using a supercapacitor. The goal is the measurement of the height of fluid present in the applicator in order to avoid a misadministration dose during the irradiation process. A minimum measurement height of 5 mm is required by clinic to be confident with the selected radiation dose. The measurement circuit uses a capacitive sensor which detects variations lower than 0.1 pF. Functional non-retentive fecal incontinence (FNRFI) is a common problem in pediatric age. FNRFI is defined as unintended loss of stool in a 4-year-old or older child after organic causes have been excluded. FNRFI tends to affects up to 3% of children older than 4 years, with males being affected more frequently than females. Clinically, children affected by FNRFI have normal intestinal movements and stool consistency.
