Relaxation Dynamics of Cr(acac)3 Probed by Ultrafast Infrared Spectroscopy

2007

Ultrafast infrared spectroscopy is used to probe the dynamics of Cr(acac)3 upon ligand field (400 nm) and charge transfer state (345 nm) excitation. At both pump wavelengths, the ground state absorption bands are strongly bleached at zero delay, and new broad transient absorption bands appear red shifted from the bleached bands. Recovery of ground state bleach is dominated by a fast time constant (15 ps), while a small percentage recovers within 760−900 ps. Despite the extensive studies on Cr(acac)3 photophysics, the fast recovery of the ground state as a major channel is reported here for the first time. As a general result, the present communication emphasizes the great value of ultrafast…

Reaction of Rh2(μ2-O2CCH3)3[μ2-(C6H4)PMePh](HO2CCH3)2 with triphenylphosphine: rearrangement of the metalated PMePh2 ligand and formation of a compou…

1995

The reaction of [Rh2(μ2-O2CCH3)3{μ2-(C6H4)PMePh}] (1) in CHCl3 with one mole of PPh3 gives the two phosphine monoadducts, which are in rapid equilibrium above −40 °C. After 6 h at room temperature this mixture gives [Rh2(μ2-O2CCH32{μ2-(C6H4)PMePh}{μ2-(C6H4)PPh2}](HO2CCH3)2 (3), a doubly metalated compound with a head-to-head configuration. 1 reacts with two moles of PPh3, forming the bis-adduct 1.P2, which at 10 °C gives a mixture 3, in the form of its phosphine adduct 3.P, and [Rh2(μ2-O2CCH3)2{μ2-(CH2)PPh2}{μ2- (C6H4) PPh2}(PPh3)] (2). It is confirmed that 3.P is not the kinetic product in the reaction from 1.P2 to 2. The structure of [Rh2(μ2-O2CCH3)2{μ2-(CH2)PPh2}{μ2-(CP6H4) PPh2} (PPh3)]…

Dependence of two-proton radioactivity on nuclear pairing models

2017

Sensitivity of two-proton emitting decay to nuclear pairing correlation is discussed within a time-dependent three-body model. We focus on the $^6$Be nucleus assuming $\alpha + p + p$ configuration, and its decay process is described as a time-evolution of the three-body resonance state. For a proton-proton subsystem, a schematic density-dependent contact (SDDC) pairing model is employed. From the time-dependent calculation, we observed the exponential decay rule of a two-proton emission. It is shown that the density dependence does not play a major role in determining the decay width, which can be controlled only by the asymptotic strength of the pairing interaction. This asymptotic pairin…

Measurement of the group velocity of light in sea water at the ANTARES site

2012

The group velocity of light has been measured at eight different wavelengths between 385 nm and 532 nm in the Mediterranean Sea at a depth of about 2.2 km with the ANTARES optical beacon systems. A parametrisation of the dependence of the refractive index on wavelength based on the salinity, pressure and temperature of the sea water at the ANTARES site is in good agreement with these measurements.

Graphic representation of data resulting from measurement comparison trials in cataract and refractive surgery.

2003

* BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The evaluation of new diagnostic measurement devices allows intraindividual comparison with an established standard method. However, reports in journal articles often omit the adequate incorporation of the intraindividual design into the graphic representation. * PATIENTS AND METHODS: This article illustrates the drawbacks and the possible erroneous conclusions caused by this misleading practice in terms of recent method comparison data resulting from axial length measurement in 220 consecutive patients by both applanation ultrasound and partial coherence interferometry. * RESULTS: Graphic representation of such method comparison data should be based on boxplots…

Absorption and Scattering Microscopy of Single Metal Nanoparticles.

2006

Several recently developed detection techniques opened studies of individual metal nanoparticles (1-100 nm in diameter) in the optical far field. Eliminating averaging over the broad size and shape distributions produced by even the best of current synthesis methods, these studies hold great promise for gaining a deeper insight into many of the properties of metal nanoparticles, notably electronic and vibrational relaxation. All methods are based on detection of a scattered wave emitted either by the particle itself, or by its close environment. Direct absorption and interference techniques rely on the particle's scattering and have similar limits in signal-to-noise ratio. The photothermal …

Experimental signature of optical wave thermalization through supercontinuum generation in photonic crystal fiber

2009

International audience; We report an experimental, numerical and theoretical study of the incoherent regime of supercontinuum generation in a two zero dispersion wavelengths fiber. By using a simple experimental setup, we show that the phenomenon of spectral broadening inherent to supercontinuum generation can be described as a thermalization process, which is characterized by an irreversible evolution of the optical field towards a thermal equilibrium state. In particular, the thermodynamic equilibrium spectrum predicted by the kinetic wave theory is characterized by a double peak structure, which has been found in quantitative agreement with the numerical simulations without adjustable pa…

The role of letters and syllables in typical and dysfluent reading in a transparent orthography

2012

The role of letters and syllables in typical and dysfluent 2nd grade reading in Finnish, a transparent orthography, was assessed by lexical decision and naming tasks. Typical readers did not show reliable word length effects in lexical decision, suggesting establishment of parallel letter processing. However, there were small effects of word syllable structure in both tasks suggesting the presence of some sublexical processing also. Dysfluent readers showed large word length effects in both tasks indicating decoding at the letterphoneme level. When lexical access was required in a lexical decision task, dyslexics additionally chunked the letters into syllables. Response duration measure rev…

Dual-stage and dual-deficit? Word recognition processes during text reading across the reading fluency continuum

2021

AbstractCentral questions in the study of visual word recognition and developmental dyslexia are whether early lexical activation precedes and supports decoding (a dual-stage view) or not (dual-route view), and the locus of deficits in dysfluent reading. The dual-route view predicts early word frequency and length interaction, whereas the dual-stage view predicts word frequency effect to precede the interaction effect. These predictions were tested on eye movements data collected from (n = 152) children aged 9–10 among whom reading dysfluency was overrepresented. In line with the dual-stage view, the results revealed an early word frequency effect in first fixation duration followed by robu…

Sublexical effects on eye movements during repeated reading of words and pseudowords in Finnish

2011

The role of different orthographic units (letters, syllables, words) in reading of orthographically transparent Finnish language was studied by independently manipulating the number of letters (NoL) and syllables (NoS) in words and pseudowords and by recording eye movements during repeated reading aloud of these items. Fluent adult readers showed evidence for using larger orthographic units in (pseudo)word recoding, whereas dysfluent children seem to be stuck in a letter-based decoding strategy, as lexicality and item repetition decreased the NoL effect only among adult readers. The NoS manipulation produced weak repetition effects in both groups. However, dysfluent children showed evidence…
