Green Light-Emitting Solid-State Electrochemical Cell Obtained from a Homoleptic Iridium(III) Complex Containing Ionically Charged Ligands

2006

An efficient bluish-green light-emitting Ir(III) complex was prepared by introducing charged side groups onto phenylpyridine ligands. Green light emission with a first maximum at 487 nm (CIE coordinates x = 0.337 and y = 0.501) was observed from a single layer light-emitting electrochemical cell using this new complex; this is the lowest wavelength observed so far for devices based on ionic transition metal complexes.

First experimental study of photon polarization in radiative B0s decays.

2017

The polarization of photons produced in radiative $B^{0}_{s}$ decays is studied for the first time. The data are recorded by the LHCb experiment in $pp$ collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3fb$^{-1}$ at center-of-mass energies of $7$ and $8$TeV. A time-dependent analysis of the $B^{0}_{s} \to \phi \gamma$ decay rate is conducted to determine the parameter ${\mathcal{A}}^\Delta$, which is related to the ratio of right- over left-handed photon polarization amplitudes in $b \to s \gamma$ transitions. A value of ${\mathcal{A}}^\Delta=-0.98^{\,+0.46\,+0.23}_{\,-0.52\,-0.20}$ is measured. This result is consistent with the Standard Model prediction within two standard deviatio…

Candidate Gene and Genome-Wide Association Studies for Circulating Leptin Levels Reveal Population and Sex-Specific Associations in High Cardiovascul…

2019

Leptin is a hormone crucial in the regulation of food intake and body-weight maintenance. However, the genes and gene variants that influence its plasma levels are still not well known. Results of studies investigating polymorphisms in candidate genes have been inconsistent, and, in addition, very few genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been undertaken. Our aim was to investigate the genes and gene variants most associated with plasma leptin concentrations in a high-cardiovascular-risk Mediterranean population. We measured plasma leptin in 1011 men and women, and analyzed the genetic factors associated using three approaches: (1) Analyzing the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) …

Background Despite the two-fold cost of sex, most of the higher animals reproduce sexually. The advantage of sex has been suggested to be its ability, through recombination, to generate greater genetic diversity than asexuality, thus enhancing adaptation in a changing environment. We studied the genetic diversity and the population structure of three closely related species of bag worm moths: two strictly sexual (Dahlica charlottae and Siederia rupicolella) and one strictly asexual (D. fennicella). These species compete for the same resources and share the same parasitoids.

Bracoviruses are symbiotic viruses associated with tens of thousands of species of parasitic wasps that develop within the body of lepidopteran hosts and that collectively parasitize caterpillars of virtually every lepidopteran species. Viral particles are produced in the wasp ovaries and injected into host larvae with the wasp eggs. Once in the host body, the viral DNA circles enclosed in the particles integrate into lepidopteran host cell DNA. Here we show that bracovirus DNA sequences have been inserted repeatedly into lepidopteran genomes, indicating this viral DNA can also enter germline cells. The original mode of Horizontal Gene Transfer (HGT) unveiled here is based on the integrativ…

Structural mapping of GABRB3 variants reveals genotype-phenotype correlations

2021

AbstractPurposePathogenic variants in GABRB3 have been associated with a spectrum of phenotypes from severe developmental disorders and epileptic encephalopathies to milder epilepsy syndromes and mild intellectual disability. In the present study, we analyzed a large cohort of individuals with GABRB3 variants to deepen the phenotypic understanding and investigate genotype-phenotype correlations.MethodsThrough an international collaboration, we analyzed electro-clinical data of unpublished individuals with variants in GABRB3 and we reviewed previously published cases. All missense variants were mapped onto the 3D structure of the GABRB3 subunit and clinical phenotypes associated with the dif…

Development and characterization of microsatellite markers in the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata

2006

The characterization of 11 Leptinotarsa decemlineata microsatellite loci isolated using the fast isolation by AFLP of sequences containing repeats (FIASCO) protocol is reported. Three to 15 alleles per locus were detected in 54 beetles collected from four populations of L. decemlineata. The mean number of alleles was 7.4 ± 3.2 and the level of expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.451 to 0.798. The total exclusionary probabilities using these loci for the first and the second parent were 0.982 and 0.999, respectively. These are the first microsatellite loci characterized from the Colorado potato beetles that can be used for estimating genetic diversity, population structure and parentage an…

Mitochondrial Dna Sequence Variation among Geographic Strains of Diamondback Moth (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae)

1997

We examined genetic variation among 6 geographic strains of diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.), using 365 base pairs of the mitochondrial gene encoding cytochrome oxidase I (COI). No sequence variation was detected within 5 of the 6 strains; 1 strain contained 2 haplotypes that differed by a single base substitution (0.27%). Sequence differences between strains of diamondback moth from Hawaii, the Philippines, and Pennsylvania ranged from 0 to 0.82%. With one exception, base pair substitutions among strains resulted in synonymous codons and did not alter amino acid sequence. Genetic divergence between strains of diamondback moth was not correlated with geographic distances between t…
