Measurement of the polarization in νμ charged current interactions in the NOMAD experiment
2001
The Λ polarization in νμ charged current interactions has been measured in the NOMAD experiment. The event sample (8087 reconstructed Λ 's) is more than an order of magnitude larger than that of previous bubble chamber experiments, while the quality of event reconstruction is comparable. We observe negative polarization along the W -boson direction which is enhanced in the target fragmentation region: Px(xF 0)=−0.09±0.06(stat)±0.03(sys) . These results provide a test of different models describing the nucleon spin composition and the spin transfer mechanisms. A significant transverse polarization (in the direction orthogonal to the Λ production plane) has been observed for the first time in…
J/ψ production as a function of charged particle multiplicity in pp collisions at s =7 TeV
2012
The ALICE Collaboration reports the measurement of the relative J/psi yield as a function of charged particle pseudorapidity density dN(ch)/d eta in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV at the LHC. J/psi particles are detected for p(t) > 0, in the rapidity interval vertical bar y vertical bar 0. In the highest multiplicity interval with (dN(ch)/d eta)(bin)) = 24.1, corresponding to four times the minimum bias multiplicity density, an enhancement relative to the minimum bias J/psi yield by a factor of about 5 at 2.5 < y <4 (8 at vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.9) is observed. Evidence for thehb(1P)meson in the decayΥ(3S)→π0hb(1P)
2011
Using a sample of 122×10^6 Υ(3S) events recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC, we search for the h_b(1P) spin-singlet partner of the P-wave χ_(bJ)(1P) states in the sequential decay Υ(3S)→π^0h_b(1P), hb(1P)→γη_b(1S). We observe an excess of events above background in the distribution of the recoil mass against the π0 at mass 9902±4(stat)±2(syst) MeV/c^2. The width of the observed signal is consistent with experimental resolution, and its significance is 3.1σ, including systematic uncertainties. We obtain the value (4.3±1.1(stat)±0.9(syst))×10^(-4) for the product branching fraction B(Υ(3S)→π^0h_b)×B(h_b→γη_b).
Search forCPviolation in the decayD±→KS0π±
2011
We report on a search for CP violation in the decay D{sup {+-}} {yields} K{sub S}{sup 0}{pi}{sup {+-}} using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469 fb{sup -1} collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric energy e{sup +}e{sup -} storage rings. The CP-violating decay rate asymmetry A{sub CP} is determined to be (-0.44 {+-} 0.13(stat) {+-} 0.10(syst))%, consistent with zero at 2.7 {sigma} and with the standard model prediction of (-0.332 {+-} 0.006)%. This is currently the most precise measurement of this parameter.
Measurement ofZγproduction inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2010
The production rate and kinematics of photons produced in association with Z bosons are studied using 2 fb{sup -1} of p{bar p} collision data collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The cross section for p{bar p} {yields} {ell}{sup +}{ell}{sup -}{gamma} + X (where the leptons {ell} are either muons or electrons with dilepton mass M{sub {ell}{ell}} > 40 GeV/c{sup 2}, and where the photon has transverse energy E{sub T}{sup {gamma}} > 7 GeV and is well separated from the leptons) is 4.6 {+-} 0.2 (stat) {+-} 0.3 (syst) {+-} 0.3 (lum) pb, which is consistent with standard model expectations. We use the photon ET distribution from Z{gamma} events where the Z has decayed to {mu}{sup +}{mu}…
Search for Z0 decays to two leptons and a charged particle-antiparticle pair
1993
Based on a sample equivalent to 365 000 hadronic Z0 decays, the search in DELPHI data for pairs of leptons accompanied by a pair of charged particles is described. A total of 11 events were found in the electron channel, 9 in the muon channel and 7 in the tau channel. Results on lepton pairs with a radiated photon are also presented. The data from all channels are compatible with the expectations from standard processes. However, one event was found in the tau channel with an unusually high mass of the charged particle pair.
Future CMB Constraints on Early, Cold, or Stressed Dark Energy
2011
We investigate future constraints on early dark energy (EDE) achievable by the Planck and CMBPol experiments, including cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing. For the dark energy, we include the possibility of clustering through a sound speed c_s^2 <1 (cold dark energy) and anisotropic stresses parameterized with a viscosity parameter c_vis^2. We discuss the degeneracies between cosmological parameters and EDE parameters. In particular we show that the presence of anisotropic stresses in EDE models can substantially undermine the determination of the EDE sound speed parameter c_s^2. The constraints on EDE primordial energy density are however unaffected. We also calculate the future …
Influence of Coulomb distortion on polarization observables in elastic electromagnetic lepton hadron scattering at low energies
2011
The formal expression for the most general polarization observable in elastic electromagnetic lepton hadron scattering at low energies is derived for the nonrelativistic regime. For the explicit evaluation the influence of Coulomb distortion on various polarization observables is calculated in a distorted wave Born approximation. Besides the hyperfine interaction also the spin-orbit interactions of lepton and hadron are included. For like charges the Coulomb repulsion reduces strongly the size of polarization observables compared to the plane wave Born approximation whereas for opposite charges the Coulomb attraction leads to a substantial increase of these observables for hadron lab kineti…
Dependence of lepton pair emission on EoS and initial state
1998
We present results from a hydrodynamic calculation for thermal emission of lepton pairs in central lead-lead collisions at the CERN SPS energy. Dependence of the emission on the initial conditions and Equation of State (EoS) is considered and the spectra are compared with CERES data and calculated distribution of Drell--Yan pairs.
Sensitivity of electromagnetic spectra to equation of state and initial energy density in the Pb+Pb collisions at SPS
1998
We study Pb+Pb collisions at 158 A GeV/c using a hydrodynamical approach. We test different equations of state (EoSs) and different initial conditions and show that there are more than one initial state for each EoS which reproduce the observed hadronic spectra. We also find that different equations of state favour different freeze-out temperature. Simultaneously we calculate the thermal dilepton and photon spectra for each EoS and initial state. We compare the dilepton mass spectrum to data measured by the CERES collaboration and find that the differences in spectra obtained using different EoSs and initial states are not resolvable within the current experimental resolution. However, at i…
