Search for light top squark pair production in final states with leptons and b-jets with the ATLAS detector in s=7 TeV proton–proton collisions

2013

The results of a search for pair production of light top squarks are presented, using 4.7 fb(-1) of root s = 7 TeV proton-proton collisions collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. This search targets top squarks with masses similar to, or lighter than, the top quark mass. Final states containing exclusively one or two leptons (e, mu), large missing transverse momentum, light-flavour jets and b-jets are used to reconstruct the top squark pair system. Event-based mass scale variables are used to separate the signal from a large t (t) over bar background. No excess over the Standard Model expectations is found. The results are interpreted in the framework of the Minimal…

Massive neutrinos and right-handed weak currents in double beta decay.

1993

The contributions of right-handed weak currents in neutrinoless double beta decay are studied taking explicitly into account the mass corrections to the intermediate neutrino propagator. Due to these corrections the right-handed currents become effective even if all neutrinos are light ([ital m][sub [nu]][gt]10 MeV). Explicit expressions for the neutrino-momentum integrals and the decay half-life are derived. As an example two neutrino-mass scenarios containing the hypothetical 17-keV neutrino are discussed. The experimental half-life of the [sup 76]Ge[r arrow][sup 76]Se decay is used to obtain an upper limit for a new kind of effective right-handed coupling within the two scenarios.

Search for a new weakly interacting particle

1991

Abstract A search for events of the type e + e − →l + l − X 0 , where X 0 can be any weakly interacting particle which couples to the Z, has been performed with the ALEPH detector at LEP, by searching for acollinear lepton pairs. Such particles can be excluded up to a mass of 7.0 GeV/c 2 for a value of the ratio of branching fractions, Br( Z →X 0 l + l − )/Br(Z→ l + l − ), greater than 2.5 × 10 −3 if the X 0 has third component of isospin, I 3 greater than 1 2 and decays to a pair of virtual gauge bosons. When this analysis is combined with the previous results of the Higgs particle searches from ALEPH, this limit can be extended to an X 0 mass of 60 GeV/c 2 .

Qvalue and half-life of double-electron capture in184Os

2012

The observation of neutrinoless double-beta transitionswould reveal physics beyond the Standard Model, asit would establish neutrinos to be Majorana particles, which implies a violation of the lepton number conserva-tion. Experiments searching for these transitions have fo-cused on the detection of neutrinoless double-beta decay(0 ) rather than neutrinoless double-electron capture(0). One reason among others is in general the sig-ni cantly shorter half-life of the 0 process. However,in the case of neutrinoless double-electron capture, thetransition is expected to be resonantly enhanced if theinitial and the nal state of the transition are degeneratein energy [1{3].In this work, we inves…

New measurement of the K±→π±μ+μ− decay

2011

Abstract A sample of 3120 K ± → π ± μ + μ − decay candidates with ( 3.3 ± 0.7 ) % background contamination has been collected by the NA48/2 experiment at the CERN SPS, allowing a detailed study of the decay properties. The branching ratio was measured to be BR = ( 9.62 ± 0.25 ) × 10 − 8 . The form factor W ( z ) , where z = ( M μ μ / M K ) 2 , was parameterized according to several models. In particular, the slope of the linear form factor W ( z ) = W 0 ( 1 + δ z ) was measured to be δ = 3.11 ± 0.57 . Upper limits of 2.9 × 10 − 2 and 2.3 × 10 − 2 on possible charge asymmetry and forward–backward asymmetry were established at 90% CL. An upper limit BR ( K ± → π ∓ μ ± μ ± ) 1.1 × 10 − 9 was e…

Coherent and incoherent (μ−, e−) conversion in nuclei

1993

Coherent and incoherent (μ−, e−) conversion in nuclei is studied within the framework of several theories which violate flavour lepton number. A useful approach is followed which allows a factorization of the conversion widths into nuclear factors and other factors which depend only on the elementary process. The nuclear factors are evaluated in a wide range of nuclei allowing simple calculations of the conversion rates throughout the periodic table for a given theory with a minimum of work in the elementary sector. The coherent conversion is found to dominate the process. The results obtained modify appreciable previous results in the literature, particularly in the incoherent process.

AccurateQValue for theSn112Double-βDecay and its Implication for the Search of the Neutrino Mass

2009

The $Q$ value of the $^{112}\mathrm{Sn}$ double-beta decay was determined by using a Penning trap mass spectrometer. The new atomic-mass difference between $^{112}\mathrm{Sn}$ and $^{112}\mathrm{Cd}$ of 1919.82(16) keV is 25 times more precise than the previous value of 1919(4) keV. This result removes the possibility of enhanced resonance capture of the neutrinoless double-EC decay to the excited ${0}^{+}$ state at 1871.00(19) keV in $^{112}\mathrm{Cd}$.
