Studienendpunkte bei der chronisch-obstruktiven Lungenerkrankung (COPD): „Minimal Clinically Important Difference”
2008
The concept of the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) is intended to provide a measure of relevance for a statistically applied in patients with COPD. Clinically important differences are those differences relevant to the individual patient and important to the patient's life. However, people's difference in a diagnostic parameter perception of what is important vary. Furthermore, physicians may rate the significance of a particular marker and its difference which can be achieved by a pharmacological intervention differently from the patient. Thus, the major problem with defining an MCID for any measure is that the most important differences, which require the most subtle measur…
Purinergic receptors influence the differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells
2011
Adult stem cells, including adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) or ectomesenchymal dental follicle cells (DFCs), attract considerable attention for their potential to differentiate into lineages, which are of major interest in the field of Regenerative Medicine. Purinergic receptors exert a wide range of biological actions in many cell and tissue types through extracellular nucleotides. Little is known about P2 receptors in adult stem cells and changes in their expression levels during differentiation. All known P2 receptors have been investigated, and a variety of P2X and P2Y receptor subtypes were detected in MSCs. Studies investigating intracellular calcium levels on rec…
Modelling genetic regulation of growth and form in a branching sponge
2008
We present a mathematical model of the genetic regulation controlling skeletogenesis and the influence of the physical environment on a branching sponge with accretive growth (e.g.Haliclona oculataorLubomirskia baikalensis). From previous work, it is known that high concentrations of silicate induce spicule formation and upregulate thesilicateingene. The upregulation of this gene activates locally the production of spicules in the sponge and the deposition of the skeleton. Furthermore, it is known that the expression of the geneIroquoisinduces the formation of an aquiferous system, consisting of exhalant and inhalant pores. We propose a model of the regulatory network controlling the separa…
Molecular mechanisms of aroma persistence: From noncovalent interactions between aroma compounds and the oral mucosa to metabolization of aroma compo…
2021
International audience; The present study aims to reveal the molecular mechanisms underlying aroma persistence, as it plays a major role in food appreciation and quality. A multidisciplinary approach including ex vivo experiments using a novel model of oral mucosa and saliva as well as in vivo dynamic instrumental and sensory experiments was applied. Ex vivo results showed a reduction in aroma release between 7 and 86% in the presence of the thin layer of salivary proteins covering the oral mucosa (mucosal pellicle). This reduction was explained by hydrophobic interactions involving the mucosal pellicle and by the ability of oral cells and saliva to metabolize specific aroma compounds. The …
Morphostructural analysis of human follicular stem cells on highly porous bone hydroxyapatite scaffold
2007
In this study we investigated the in vitro behaviour, morphostructure and extracellular matrix synthesis of human dental follicular stem cells (hDFSCs) isolated from human dental bud, which resulted to be positive for mesenchymal markers (CD29, CD90, CD146 and CD166) by FACS analysis. Cells were analysed by light and electronic microscopy to evaluate their biological response either at week 1, that is before differentiation, or at weeks 3–6, when they had been cultured in osteogenic medium onto a highly porous natural scaffold material (Bio-Oss®). Microscopy analysis of primary culture cells showed they had a mesenchymal stem cell-like morphostructure, spindle shaped, similar to the cultur…

Le quote di genere nelle società a controllo pubblico
2022
Starting from the statistical data on female participation in the bodies of the Italian publicly controlled companies – unfortunately worse that those relating in general to listed companies –, the article aims to identify some weaknesses of the current legislation of gender quotas in unlisted publicly controlled companies, recently amended by Article 6 of Law no. 162/2021. In this perspective, some proposals de iure condendo are formulated, also in the light of the most recent Italian legislative initiatives.

Nodular Lesion in Cheek With a Hair Tuft
2017
Trichostasis spinulosa is a rarely diagnosed disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, characterized by retention of telogen hairs within the dilated follicles. A hair tuft can be seen protruding from the follicles. We present a case of trichostasis spinulosa associated with intradermal melanocytic nevi, where dermoscopy helps to identify this entity.
