Our aim was to develop a biodegradable fibrous dressing to act as a tissue guide for in situ wound repair while releasing Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation in wounds and reduce pain for patients on dressing changes. Dissolving the acid form of Ibuprofen (from 1% to 10% by weight) in the same solvent as 75% polylactide, 25% polyglycolide (PLGA) polymers gave uniformly loaded electrospun fibers which gave rapid release of drug within the first 8 h and then slower release over several days. Scaffolds with 10% Ibuprofen degraded within 6 days. The Ibuprofen released from these scaffolds significantly reduced the response of fibroblasts to major pro-inflammatory stimulators. Colon-specific drug delivery: Influence of solution reticulation properties upon pectin beads performance.

In this study, pectinate gel beads were produced by ionotropic gelation method with different solutions of cross-linking agents and ketoprofen was entrapped as model drug. The influence of these formulation parameters was investigated upon bead properties and upon their performance to target the colon. Zinc pectinate beads obtained with 10% of counter-ions solution at pH 1.6 exhibited the strongest gel network due to "egg-box" dimmer formation helped by hydrogen bonding. Furthermore the gel network formed at low pH was arranged in a compact three-fold conformation. Abstract The paper argues that existing research on information quality (IQ) mainly focuses on the primary use of electronic health record (EHR) data, whereas IQ in secondary use of EHR data needs further deliberation. The current view of IQ in a healthcare context is static. It assumes that once the EHR system generates the information product, individual users may act on the information based on their subjective perception of its quality. The representation of goals and the ability to reason about them play an important role in goal-oriented requirements analysis and modelling techniques, especially in agent-oriented software engineering, as goals are more stable than other abstractions (e.g. user stories). In PRACTIONIST, a framework for developing agent systems according to the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) model, goals play a central role. Thus, in this paper we describe the structure of the goal model in the PRACTIONIST framework and how agents use their goal model to reason about goals, desires, and intentions during their deliberation process and means-ends reasoning as well as while performing their activities.

Previous research suggests that distinct characteristics of news articles, such as their news factors, account for the different participation rates in comment sections as well as the degree of interactivity among the discussants. Doxycycline Reduces Mortality to Lethal Endotoxemia by Reducing Nitric Oxide Synthesis via an Interleukin‐10‐Independent Mechanism

It was demonstrated that doxycycline protected BALB/c mice injected intraperitoneally with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) against lethal septic shock. Doxycycline (at 1.5 mg/kg) exerted its protective effect by inhibiting nitrate production by an interleukin-10-independent mechanism. Experiments carried out in vitro also indicated that doxycycline inhibited NO synthesis by LPS-activated macrophages without inducing any significant modification in interleukin-10 release. These data suggest that the direct inhibition of nitrate release is the main mechanism of the antiinflammatory activity of doxycycline in septic shock.
A Hydrogel Based on a Polyaspartamide: Characterization and Evaluation of In-vivo Biocompatibility and Drug Release in the Rat

Abstract This paper deals with the characterization of a new microparticulate hydrogel obtained by gamma irradiation of α,β-poly[N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide] (PHEA). When enzymatic digestion of PHEA hydrogel was evaluated using various concentrations of pepsin and α-chymotrypsin no degradation occurred within 24 h. In-vivo studies showed that this new material is biocompatible after oral administration to rats. PHEA hydrogel was also studied as a system for delivery of diflunisal, an anti-inflammatory drug. Effects of human recombinant interleukins on stimulation-evoked noradrenaline overflow from the rat perfused spleen

Experiments were carried out in the isolated spleen of the rat to study in a lymphoid organ the influence of interleukins (ILs) on noradrenaline release. Spleens were perfused with Tyrode's solution and the overflow of endogenous noradrenaline was determined by HPLC with electrochemical detection. Perivascular electrical stimulation (4 or 10 Hz, 20-28 mA, 2 min) caused an increase in noradrenaline overflow and in perfusion pressure, both of which were markedly reduced by perfusion with Ca(2+)-free solution, abolished by tetrodotoxin, unaffected by hexamethonium, and subject to alpha 2-adrenoceptor- and muscarinic receptor-mediated modulation as shown by the effects of rauwolscine and methac…
