Modulated magnetic structures of ErPb3, HoPb3, ErTl3 and HoTl3
1981
Neutron diffraction experiments have been carried out on the magnetically ordered phases of ErPb3, HoPb3, ErTl3 and HoTl3. The magnetic moments were found to be sinusoidally modulated with a propagation vector of (0, 0.2, 0.5) for the Pb-compounds and (0.38, 0.38, 0.16) for the Tl-compounds.
Improved Neural Networks with Random Weights for Short-Term Load Forecasting.
2015
An effective forecasting model for short-term load plays a significant role in promoting the management efficiency of an electric power system. This paper proposes a new forecasting model based on the improved neural networks with random weights (INNRW). The key is to introduce a weighting technique to the inputs of the model and use a novel neural network to forecast the daily maximum load. Eight factors are selected as the inputs. A mutual information weighting algorithm is then used to allocate different weights to the inputs. The neural networks with random weights and kernels (KNNRW) is applied to approximate the nonlinear function between the selected inputs and the daily maximum load…
Spin Crossover, Liesst, and Niesst-Fascinating Electronic Games in Iron Complexes
1997
Abstract Coordination compounds of transition metal ions with open-shell electron configurations may exhibit dynamic electronic structure phenomena depending on the nature of the coordinating ligand sphere. The change of spin state with temperature (thermal spin crossover”) and light-induced electron transfer processes leading to long-lived metastable states are among the most fascinating electronic games encountered in transition metal compounds and are presently under intensive study by chemists and physicists. The first part of this lecture will survey briefly some highlights of previous work and present recent results on thermal spin crossover in iron(II) compounds. The second part of t…
A 20-channel receive-only mouse array coil for a 3 T clinical MRI system
2011
A 20-channel phased-array coil for MRI of mice has been designed, constructed, and validated with bench measurements and high-resolution accelerated imaging. The technical challenges of designing a small, high density array have been overcome using individual small-diameter coil elements arranged on a cylinder in a hexagonal overlapping design with adjacent low impedance preamplifiers to further decouple the array elements. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and noise amplification in accelerated imaging were simulated and quantitatively evaluated in phantoms and in vivo mouse images. Comparison between the 20-channel mouse array and a length-matched quadrature driven small animal birdcage coil sh…
Paratransgenic manipulation of a tsetse microRNA alters the physiological homeostasis of the fly’s midgut environment
2021
Tsetse flies are vectors of parasitic African trypanosomes, the etiological agents of human and animal African trypanosomoses. Current disease control methods include fly-repelling pesticides, fly trapping, and chemotherapeutic treatment of infected people and animals. Inhibiting tsetse’s ability to transmit trypanosomes by strengthening the fly’s natural barriers can serve as an alternative approach to reduce disease. The peritrophic matrix (PM) is a chitinous and proteinaceous barrier that lines the insect midgut and serves as a protective barrier that inhibits infection with pathogens. African trypanosomes must cross tsetse’s PM in order to establish an infection in the fly, and PM struc…
Biosilicification of loricate choanoflagellate: organic composition of the nanotubular siliceous costal strips of Stephanoeca diplocostata.
2010
SUMMARY Loricate choanoflagellates (unicellular, eukaryotic flagellates; phylum Choanozoa) synthesize a basket-like siliceous lorica reinforced by costal strips (diameter of approximately 100 nm and length of 3 μm). In the present study, the composition of these siliceous costal strips is described, using Stephanoeca diplocostata as a model. Analyses by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), coupled with transmission electron microscopy (TEM), indicate that the costal strips comprise inorganic and organic components. The organic, proteinaceous scaffold contained one major polypeptide of mass 14 kDa that reacted with wheat germ agglutinin. Polyclonal antibodies were raised that allowed …
Modalità e tipologie dell’epica normanna tra Francia, Inghilterra e Italia meridionale
2017

Remembrance of Jews in contemporary catholic homilies
2020
The paper discusses the problem of transferring the memory of Jews through Polish contemporary Catholic homilies. In the biblical pericopies read throughout the liturgical year during Catholic mass, generally Jews play a negative role – as persecutors and killers of Jesus. According to the provisions of the Second Vatican Council, anti-Jewish content cannot be proclaimed in the Catholic Church, and the Bible, which according to the doctrine must remain unchanged, should be adequately commented on in homilies. The paper – on the example of about 40 homilies – shows, however, that priests who preach homilies do not use modern exegetic knowledge, but replicate stereotypes deeply rooted in cult…
