Donor–Acceptor Interfaces by Engineered Nanoparticles Assemblies for Enhanced Efficiency in Plastic Planar Heterojunction Solar Cells

Precisely positioning functionalized gold nanoparticles assemblies at planar donor-acceptor interfaces results in 14-fold enhancement of power conversion efficiency in P3HT/PCBM organic solar cells on plastic (ITO/PET) substrates. This result has been achieved by employing naphthalenethiol-capped gold nanoparticles (NT-Au-NPs) produced by laser ablation in liquid and size varied in the 10-30 nm range. Upon surface functionalization with the aromatic thiol, these particles self-assemble in submicrometer aggregates, which give increased light scattering. Broadband light trapping in thin film solar cells with self-organized plasmonic nano-colloids

The intense light scattered from metal nanoparticles sustaining surface plasmons makes them attractive for light trapping in photovoltaic applications. However, a strong resonant response from nanoparticle ensembles can only be obtained if the particles have monodisperse physical properties. Low-damping spin-wave propagation in a micro-structured Co2Mn0.6Fe0.4Si Heusler waveguide

We report on the investigation of spin-wave propagation in a micro-structured Co2Mn0.6Fe0.4Si (CMFS) Heusler waveguide. The reduced magnetic losses of this compound compared to the commonly used Ni81Fe19 allow for the observation of spin-wave propagation over distances as high as 75 μm via Brillouin light scattering (BLS) microscopy. In the linear regime, a maximum decay length of 16.7 μm of the spin-wave amplitude was found. The coherence length of the observed spin-wave modes was estimated to be at least 16 μm via phase-resolved BLS techniques.

Microchip Random Laser based on a disordered TiO2-nanomembranes arrangement

International audience; We developed a new scheme for obtaining coherent random lasing based on a chip consisting of a polymer film doped with Rhodamine 6G, having as scatterers butterfly-like TiO2 nanomembranes (TiO2-NM) supported on a glass substrate. The feedback mechanism for laser action is due to the multiple scattering of light by TiO2-NM rather than provided by localized variations of the refractive index in the polymer film. The above-threshold multiple spikes signature indicative of random laser emission with coherent feedback is confirmed. As nanomembranes are foreseen as new MEMS/NEMS building blocks, a new generation of combined active/passive photonic devices can be envisaged.

Influence of Fano resonance on SERS enhancement in Fano-plasmonic oligomers

Plasmonic oligomers can provide profound Fano resonance in their scattering responses. The sub-radiant mode of Fano resonance can result in significant near-field enhancement due to its light trapping capability into the so-called hotspots. Appearance of these highly localized hotspots at the excitation and/or Stokes wavelengths of the analytes makes such oligomers promising SERS active substrates. Hybrid magnetite–gold nanoparticles as bifunctional magnetic–plasmonic systems: three representative cases

Hybrid systems based on magnetite and gold nanoparticles have been extensively used as bifunctional materials for bio- and nano-technology. The properties of these composites are assumed to be closely related to the magnetite to gold mass ratio and to the geometry of the resulting hetero-structures. New amphiphilic poly(butadiene)-graft-poly(ethylene oxide)s

Amphiphilic graft copolymers with a poly(butadiene) backbone and poly(ethylene oxide) side chains were synthesized by grafting isocyanateterminated poly(ethylene oxide) on to partially hydroxylated poly(butadiene). The graft copolymers are water soluble if the fraction of hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) exceeds 50 wt%. Solutions of graft copolymers in water and tetrahydrofuran were studied by static light scattering and viscosity measurements. By dynamic light scattering in solution it was shown that the graft copolymers form clusters.
