ERP system implementation in SMEs: exploring the influences of the SME context

2012

Small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs are increasingly implementing enterprise resource planning ERP systems. Compared to large enterprises, SMEs differ in a number of inherent characteristics, which are likely to impact the ERP system implementations. The purpose of this study is to explore these influences of the SME context on the ERP system implementation process. SME characteristics are synthesised from relevant literature and the influences of the contextual factors on various activities across the ERP life cycle are investigated. The study presents findings from a multiple case study of four SMEs. The ownership type of the companies and limited resources were identified as the most…

A Synthetic View of Different Concepts of Creditor Protection - Or a High-Level Framework for Corporate Creditor Protection

2006

Protection of corporate creditors has become an important topic within the European Union. At EU level, discussion has been sparked by widespread dissatisfaction with some very rigid and cumbersome provisions, and even with the whole concept of the Second Company Law Directive. At EU Member State level, three landmark decisions by the European Court of Justice — Centros, Uberseering, and Inspire Art — opened the way for an all-out competition between the different company forms provided for by national company laws. At both levels, albeit for different reasons, British company law — and in particular the absence of any legal capital in the private limited company — acts as the main driving …

On the semiclassical limit of the defocusing Davey-Stewartson II equation

2018

Inverse scattering is the most powerful tool in theory of integrable systems. Starting in the late sixties resounding great progress was made in (1+1) dimensional problems with many break-through results as on soliton interactions. Naturally the attention in recent years turns towards higher dimensional problems as the Davey-Stewartson equations, an integrable generalisation of the (1+1)-dimensionalcubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The defocusing Davey-Stewartson II equation, in its semi-classical limit has been shown in numerical experiments to exhibit behavior that qualitatively resembles that of its one-dimensional reduction, namely the generation of a dispersive shock wave: smooth i…

First Results of the Testing of the Liquid Gallium Jet Limiter Concept for ISTTOK

2006

The use of liquid metals as plasma facing components in tokamaks has recently experienced a renewed interest stimulated by their advantages to the development of a fusion reactor. Liquid metals have been proposed to solve problems related to the erosion and neutronic activation of solid walls submitted to high power loads allowing an efficient heat exhaustion from fusion devices. Presently the most promising materials are Lithium and Gallium. ISTTOK, a small size tokamak, will be used to test the behavior of a liquid Gallium jet in the vacuum chamber and its influence on the plasma. This paper presents a description of the conceived setup as well as experimental results. The liquid Gallium …

Interaction of a liquid gallium jet with the tokamak ISTTOK edge plasma

2008

Abstract The interaction of a liquid gallium jet with plasma has been investigated in the tokamak ISTTOK. This paper presents a description of the conceived experimental setup, a detailed characterization of the produced jets and the first experimental results related to the gallium–plasma interaction. A stable jet has been obtained, which was not noticeably affected by magnetic field transients. ISTTOK has been successfully operated with the gallium jet without degradation of the discharge or a significant plasma contamination by liquid metal. This observation is supported by spectroscopic measurements showing that gallium radiation is limited to the region around the jet. Furthermore, the…

Morphometry of microstromatolites in calcrete laminar crusts and a fractal model of their growth

1996

The laminar crust, constituting the upper part of calcretes (terrestrial CaCO3 accumulations inside surficial sediments), is a succession of thin layers of various colors and shapes resembling micro-stromatolites. The crust structure and its diagenetic evolution are similar to stromatolites. A quantitative study of its structure was made using image analysis. Euclidian parameters were calculated to describe lamina shape. Eight hundred and eighty-six laminae were divided into six classes from the flatest forms to columnar shapes. The geometrical relationships between the shapes are interpreted as steps in the growth process of the microstromatolite. A fractal model of laminar crust growth wa…

Introduction

2017

The book is devoted to three key questions concerning the relationship between complexity and natural language. Briefly, such questions are: (a) What kind of complexity for natural language? (b) Which theory of language in the perspective of complexity? (c) What sorts of methods and models in the analysis of the observed phenomena? All the essays in this volume show the reference to complexity as a constant element. However, the use of the singular may not be entirely appropriate.

Two-Length-Scale Structure in Some Computer-Generated Aggregates Grown by Diffusion-Limited Aggregation

1994

AbstractThe properties of some aggregates “grown” on a computer by diffusion-limited aggregation have been investigated. Calculations showed that the intensity of the small-angle x-ray and neutron scattering from the aggregates was proportional to q−D for qL ≫ 1, where D > 0, L is a length that characterizes the large-scale structure of the aggregate, q = 4πλ−1 sin(θ/2), γ is the wavelength, and θ is the scattering angle. The magnitude of the exponent D was appreciably smaller than the fractal dimensions that many simulations have shown to be typical of the mass fractal aggregates grown by diffusion-limited aggregation. The calculations suggest that the aggregates have structure on two d…

Behavioral profile of intermittent vs continuous access to a high fat diet during adolescence

2018

Abstract Over the past few years, the effects of a high-fat diet (HFD) on cognitive functions have been broadly studied as a model of obesity, although no studies have evaluated whether these effects are maintained after the cessation of this diet. In addition, the behavioral effects of having a limited access to an HFD (binge-eating pattern) are mostly unknown, although they dramatically increase the vulnerability to drug use in contrast to having continuous access. Thus, the aim of the present study was to compare the effects of an intermittent versus a continuous exposure to an HFD during adolescence on cognition and anxiety-like behaviors, as well as to study the changes observed after …
