Early assessment of crop yield from remotely sensed water stress and solar radiation data
2018
Soil moisture (SM) available for evapotranspiration is crucial for food security, given the significant interannual yield variability of rainfed crops in large agricultural regions. Also, incoming solar radiation (Rs) influences the photosynthetic rate of vegetated surfaces and can affect productivity. The aim of this work is to evaluate the ability of crop water stress and Rs remotely sensed data to forecast yield at regional scale. Temperature Vegetation Dryness Index (TVDI) was computed as an indicator of crop water stress and soil moisture availability. TVDI during critical growth stage of crops was calculated from MODIS products: MODIS/AQUA 8-day composite LST at 1 km and 16-day compos…
First finding of Linaria vulgaris (Scrophulariaceae)in Sicily
2007
The occurrence of Linaria vulgaris is reported in Sicily. Such species is known in the Italian Peninsula. Populations of this species have been observed respectively on the Nebrodi Mountains (N Sicily) and in proximity to Aidone (C Sicily).
A new taxonomic arrangement in "Linaria" sect. "supinae" ("Antirrhineae")
2008
Crespo, Juan & M. Bernal, comb. & stat. nov. As a result of a study of macromorphological and seed features of Linaria benitoi Fern. Casas, endemic to Cabo de Gata (SE Iberian Peninsula) and taxa included in the L. oblongifolia group, the variability and morphological relatio…
Trench-parallel spreading ridge subduction and its consequences for the geological evolution of the overriding plate: Insights from analogue models a…
2018
A series of 3-D asthenospheric-scale analogue models have been conducted in the laboratory in order to simulate the arrival of a spreading ridge at the trench and understand its effect on plate kinematics, slab geometry, and on the deformation of the overriding plate. These models are made of a two-layered linearly viscous system simulating the lithosphere and asthenosphere. We reproduce the progressive decrease in thickness of the oceanic lithosphere at the trench. We measure plate kinematics, slab geometry and upper plate deformation. Our experiments reveal that the subduction of a thinning plate beneath a freely moving overriding continent favors a decrease of the subduction velocity and…
La trama hispana de la Primera Conjuración de Catilina
2001
Juan.J.Segui@uv.es Though there are not many references about the political facts that occurred in Hispania along the I century B. C., it must be ramarked the little and careless attention paid to the First Catilinarian Conspiracy of 66 and 64 by the Spanish scholars. Because of the importance that those events have particularly in the Hispanian history and consequently, in the Roman Republican history, the aim of this paper is to revise this question.
Make love, not war: a process-based approach to social innovation
2017
Traditional approaches to social innovation focus on products, services, and ideas that enable social problems to be solved. They also often view social innovation as resulting from a cross-fertilization between multiple stakeholders. We advocate for a process-based approach to social innovation internal to organizations, anchored in the concept of ethical love. While love, as a concept, has only received attention recently in academic management research, contrary to its common usage in psychology, we propose a philosophical and anthropological perspective on the call for love in organizations and distinguish with the help of the philosopher Levinas between political love and ethical love.…
Seed germination of six coastal plant species of the Baltic region: effect of salinity and dormancy-breaking treatments
2008
AbstractSeed salinity tolerance and dormancy play important roles in germination behaviour. The effects of NaCl concentration and different dormancy-breaking treatments on germination were determined for six species growing on the coasts of the Baltic Sea or the Gulf of Riga: Juncus balticus, Triglochin maritima, Triglochin palustre, Anthyllis maritima, Linaria vulgaris and Linaria loeselii. Germination percentages were significantly reduced at NaCl concentrations >100 mM. Germination of J. balticus, T. maritima and T. palustre, but not that of A. maritima and L. vulgaris, recovered after seeds were rinsed with distilled water. Seeds of J. balticus were non-dormant; those of A. maritima …

An inventory of the names of vascular plants endemic to C Mediterranean and described from Tunisia
2019
The census of the loci classici of the 98 vascular plants described from Tunisia, endemic to Tunisia or to Tunisia and the surrounding countries, is here presented and described. The effective place of publication of accepted names, basionyms, and homotypic synonyms were identified and critically verified. The geographic information on the loci classici was excerpted from the protologues, as well as information on typification for the taxa described before 1 January 1958. The names without holotype are 48. For 7 of them a lectotypification is already available in literature, 5 are lecotypified here, while 32 currently accepted taxa still need type designation. The new names Festuca scholzia…
