Simulation of Copolymer Bottle-Brushes

2007

The structure of bottle-brush polymers with a rigid backbone and flexible side chains is studied in three dimensions, varying the grafting density, the side chain length, and the solvent quality. Some preliminary results of theoretical scaling considerations for one-component bottle-brush polymers in a good solvent are compared with Monte Carlo simulations of a simple lattice model. For the simulations a variant of the pruned-enriched Rosenbluth method (PERM) allowing for simultaneous growth of all side chains in the Monte Carlo sampling is employed. For a symmetrical binary (A,B) bottle-brush polymer, where two types (A,B) of flexible side chains are grafted with one chain end to the backb…

Conformational Properties of Polymer Mushrooms Under Spherical and Cylindrical Confinement

2010

A coarse grained model of a flexible macromolecule end-grafted on the inside of a sphere or a cylinder under good solvent conditions is studied by Monte Carlo simulations. For cylindrical confinement, two regimes are found: when the cylinder radius R exceeds the gyration radius R 90 of the polymer mushroom grafted to a planar surface, a simple scaling description holds. In the opposite case, a non-monotonic crossover to a cigar-like quasi-one-dimensional structure occurs, and the distribution P e (x) of the free chain end in the x-direction along the cylinder axis becomes bimodal. Spherical confinement, on the other hand, causes a crossover from dilute to semidilute behavior of the structur…

Performance Test of Various Teeth Diameter of Cylinder Type Sago Rasping Machine

2021

Traditional method of sago starch extraction was a time and labor intensive process. The most laborious stage is pith disintegration which is done by using hammer-like tools called pounder. However, the use of rasping machine to disintegrate the pith is saving time and energy significantly. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of teeth diameter and cylinder rotation speed on performance of cylinder type sago rasping machine. In the experiment, four variations of teeth diameter i.e. 3mm, 4 mm, 5 mm and 6 mm, and three levels of cylinder rotation speed i.e. 1500 rpm, 2000 rpm and 2500 rpm were examined. Results showed that both teeth diameter and cylinder rotation speed s…

An analysis of model predictive control with integral action applied to digital displacement cylinders

2020

This article aims to analyze Model Predictive Control (MPC) for the control of multi-chamber cylinders. MPC with and without integral action has been introduced. Three different algorithms have been used to solve the optimization problem in the MPC. The different algorithms have been compared with an industrial solver. The influence of changing mass, choosing a different middle line pressure, system delays, signal noise, velocity estimation, and changing pressure levels has been investigated. It is concluded that for the small prediction horizon used in the paper a simple algorithm such as A can produce results as good as the previously used Differential Evolution algorithm in less than hal…

Dzimumu atalgojuma nevienlīdzības novērtēšana izmantojot Blinder-Oaxaca regresijas modeli

2019

Maģistra darbs “Dzimumu atalgojuma nevienlīdzības novērtēšana izmantojot Blinder-Oaxaca regresijas modeli” ietver sevī pētījumu par atalgojuma nevienlīdzības novērtēšanu starp dzimumiem ar mērķi precizēt esošo nepielāgoto rādītāju, kas atspoguļo doto problēmu, iekļaujot tā aprēķinā faktorus, kas ietekmē nodarbinātā atalgojuma līmeni. Pētījuma rezultāti sniedz priekštatu par dzimumu atalgojuma nevienlīdzības rādītāju, kur tiek iekļauti tie ietekmes faktori, kuri noved pie nodarbinātā noteiktā atalgojuma līmeņa sasniegšanas. Analizējot CSP Darbaspēka apsekojuma nodarbināto sniegtos datus, tika iegūts rādītājs, kurš atspoguļo nevienlīdzības līmeni, neatkarīgu no tādiem atalgojumu ietekmējošiem…

Effect of the Time Dependent Loading of Type IV Cylinders using a Multiscale Model

2019

International audience; The current requirements for composite cylinders are still based on an arbitrary approach derived from the behaviour of metal structures, that the designed burst pressure should be at least 2.5 times the maximum in-service pressure [1]. This could lead to an over-designed composite cylinder for which the weight saving would be less than optimum. Moreover, predicting the lifetime of composite cylinders is a challenging task due to their anisotropic characteristics. A federal research institute in Germany (BAM) has proposed a minimum load-cycle requirement that mitigates this issue by using a Monte-Carlo analysis of the burst test results [2-3]. To enrich this study, m…

<title>Modified crossed-cylinder aberroscope</title>

2001

We report a technique to estimate eye aberrations, based mainly on the subjective crossed-cylinder method. In order to obtain accurate coordinates of cross sections of the aberration distorted grid image on the retinal plane, needed in subjective methods, fusion of two images is used. The image seen by the eye under investigation is fused by the patient with a similar grid generated and reshaped in the appropriate way on the computer screen. The computer simulated image is viewed either by the second eye (in order to avoid eye rivalry and suppression processes, that are typical for such conditions, stimuli for both eyes are discontinuous and are displayed sequentially with a frequency of 50…
