Extended causal modeling to assess Partial Directed Coherence in multiple time series with significant instantaneous interactions.

2010

The Partial Directed Coherence (PDC) and its generalized formulation (gPDC) are popular tools for investigating, in the frequency domain, the concept of Granger causality among multivariate (MV) time series. PDC and gPDC are formalized in terms of the coefficients of an MV autoregressive (MVAR) model which describes only the lagged effects among the time series and forsakes instantaneous effects. However, instantaneous effects are known to affect linear parametric modeling, and are likely to occur in experimental time series. In this study, we investigate the impact on the assessment of frequency domain causality of excluding instantaneous effects from the model underlying PDC evaluation. M…

Combining poly(dimethyldiphenylsiloxane) and nitrile phases for improving the separation and quantitation of benzalkonium chloride homologues: In-tub…

2013

The retention and separation of four homologues of benzalkonium chloride (alkyl (C12, C14, C16, C18) dimethylbenzylammonium chloride) have been studied in poly(dimethyldiphenylsiloxane) (TRB) and nitrile capillary phases, respectively. Under the optimized conditions (50% acetonitrile in processed samples, 35% of diphenyl content of the TRB, capillary length 43 cm and water:methanol 60:40 as replacing solvent), the extraction efficiency was similar for all the homologues with satisfactory reproducibility and independently of the amount and proportion of homologues. Industrial samples with high viscosity or with complex composition and washes waters have been analyzed without previous treatme…

Life-Space Mobility in Parkinson's Disease: Associations with Motor and Non-Motor Symptoms.

2019

Background To describe life-space mobility and explore associations of motor and non-motor symptoms with life-space mobility in people with Parkinson’s disease (PD). Methods About 164 community-dwelling persons with PD (mean age 71.6 years, 64.6% men) received a postal survey and a subsequent home visit. Motor assessments included perceived walking difficulties (Walk-12G), mobility (Timed Up and Go test), motor symptoms (UPDRS-III), and freezing of gait (item 3, FOG-Qsa). Non-motor symptoms included depressive symptoms (GDS-15), pain, fatigue (NHP-EN), and global cognition (MoCA). Life-space mobility was assessed with the life-space assessment (LSA). Calculations included composite score (r…

Early reactions of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in plasma (pBDNF) and outcome to acute antidepressant treatment in patients with Major Depressio…

2011

Abstract In Major Depressive Disorder, a growing data base suggests that the onset of antidepressants’ action can be detected by improvement of depressive symptoms in the first 10–14 days of treatment. Previous studies showed that the mean concentration of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in blood increases during antidepressant treatment and positively correlates with amelioration of MDD symptoms. We previously showed an association between very early changes of the serum BDNF concentration and treatment outcome ( Tadic et al., 2011 . Prog Neuropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry 35, 415–420). However, no study has yet investigated whether BDNF concentration in plasma increases in …

Human papillomavirus genotype attribution in invasive cervical cancer: a retrospective cross-sectional worldwide study.

2010

Summary Background Knowledge about the distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes in invasive cervical cancer is crucial to guide the introduction of prophylactic vaccines. We aimed to provide novel and comprehensive data about the worldwide genotype distribution in patients with invasive cervical cancer. Methods Paraffin-embedded samples of histologically confirmed cases of invasive cervical cancer were collected from 38 countries in Europe, North America, central South America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. Inclusion criteria were a pathological confirmation of a primary invasive cervical cancer of epithelial origin in the tissue sample selected for analysis of HPV DNA, and informa…

Impact of body weight, low energy diet and gastric bypass on drug bioavailability, cardiovascular risk factors and metabolic biomarkers: protocol for…

2018

IntroductionRoux-en-Y gastric bypass (GBP) is associated with changes in cardiometabolic risk factors and bioavailability of drugs, but whether these changes are induced by calorie restriction, the weight loss or surgery per se, remains uncertain. The COCKTAIL study was designed to disentangle the short-term (6 weeks) metabolic and pharmacokinetic effects of GBP and a very low energy diet (VLED) by inducing a similar weight loss in the two groups. Methods and analysisThis open, non-randomised, three-armed, single-centre study is performed at a tertiary care centre in Norway. It aims to compare the short-term (6 weeks) and long-term (2 years) effects of GBP and VLED on, first, bioavailability…

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor correlates with functional and cognitive impairment in non-disabled older individuals.

2015

We used a complete battery of geriatric and psychometric tests to evaluate whether plasma-borne brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a master molecule in neuroplasticity, is associated with the severity of functional and cognitive impairment in non-disabled older individuals. There was a significant positive correlation between BDNF plasma concentrations and the Barthel index, a measurement of the ability of individuals to perform the activities of daily living (p=0.03) and the concentration subcategory measured with the mini mental state examination (MMSE) test (p = 0.01). Furthermore, plasma BDNF inversely and significantly correlated with the blood eosinophil count (p = 0.01), the t…

Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma: extrathyroidal extension, lymph node metastases and risk factors for recurrence in a high prevalence of goiter area

2010

BACKGROUND. Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) is diagnosed with increasing frequency. Since risk factors for an aggressive clinical behavior have not been clearly delineated, the best therapeutic option and follow up protocol for PTMC have not been established yet, especially in case of incidental diagnosis after partial thyroidectomy for benign disease. We reviewed our series of patients with PMTC to determine risk factors for recurrence in a high prevalence of goiter area. METHODS. The medical records of all the patients who underwent total thyroidectomy (TT) with a final pathology report of PTMC between October 2002 and June 2007 were reviewed. Demographic, clinical and pathologica…

Circulating leukocyte telomere length and oxidative stress: A new target for statin therapy

2011

International audience; Objectives: We investigated the relationship between prior statin therapy and leukocyte telomere length (LTL), as well as their interaction with potential new biomarkers of oxidative deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) lesions and reactive oxygen species-induced inflammation. Methods and results: From patients admitted for an acute myocardial infarction, LTL was assessed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Q-PCR), and leukocyte Finkel-Biskis-Jinkins osteosarcoma (FOS) and 8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase (OGG1) messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) levels were measured by retrotranscription Q-PCR. Patients under prior chronic statin therapy were compared with patients without …

Stage IV breast cancer: a population-based study about prognostic factors according to HER2 and HR status

2015

International audience; We aim to describe trends in net survival (NS) and to assess the prognostic factors among women with de novo metastatic breast cancer (MBC) according to human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and hormone receptor (HR) status. Data on women suffering from de novo MBC and diagnosed from 1998 to 2009 were provided by the Côte-d'Or breast cancer registry. NS was described using the Pohar Perme estimator and prognostic factors were investigated in a generalised linear model. We identified 232 patients (mean age = 64.7). Median NS was 29.2 months, 1- and 5-year NS were 76% and 26% respectively. The survival trend in patients with HER2-positive tumours who did not …
